ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
IrishHeart replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Perhaps it may yield you more answers to post this question about IBS symptoms as a separate thread? Also, since it is an entirely different topic than the OP's original post, we should try to get back to the subject at hand (in all fairness to her) Thanks! -

I honestly doubt it is CC (IMHO) but I cannot account for your symptoms either (sorry, hon) Read about GIG here: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Medical Alert Bracelets
IrishHeart replied to brandey128's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I said "I would ask", I meant EVEN if I had never been DXed myself. I am the kind of person who would take something like a medic alert bracelet--even a pretty one-- seriously. Maybe I am unusual? (Not sure why you asked if I have children --or why it is relevant, but I am a step-mother, grandma, aunt, great-aunt and a teacher. Lots of kiddos in my... -
My disgust for KK and her family aside, I would DEFINITELY press charges against someone if they flour bombed me. Gluten is poison to me and I would make sure the "thrower" was made aware that it is considered dangerous and life-threatening to me. (I do not have DH myself, but I am put down and out for weeks from gluten CC) If nothing else, I would...

ARCHIVED Medical Alert Bracelets
IrishHeart replied to brandey128's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If I were to see a medic alert bracelet on a child's wrist, I would ask the child what it was for. Even if the wee one can't say "I can't have gluten" and I did not know what gluten or Celiac was, I would call the Mom and ask. Maybe I am unusual? If the Mom feels it would be helpful, and it puts her mind at rest, what's the harm in the kiddo wearing... -
ARCHIVED Medical Alert Bracelets
IrishHeart replied to brandey128's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
In a perfect world maybe, (and I would LOVE it if everyone were gluten and celiac-savvy ) but I doubt many EMTs would. I have 4 friends who are nurses and one of them is also an EMT. I had to educate them FULLY on celiac and gluten. -
ARCHIVED Erewhon Brown Rice Gluten-Free Cereal
IrishHeart replied to IrishHeart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey there! Gosh, this is an old thread. I had forgotten I even started it. I've made so many posts since. In answer to your question, here is their company statement: Which of your cereals are Gluten Free? Are they produced in a dedicated gluten-free facility? We are pleased to offer six gluten free cereals at this time. Crispy Brown... -

If you would feel better with her wearing one, I'd say sure, why not?! -
ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia Caused By Gluten/celiac ?
IrishHeart replied to Sanjoseguy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For what it is worth, I had a B-12 deficiency, Folate deficiency, D deficiency, thyroid dysfunction (declared hypothyroid and treated and then, I zoomed to hyper.) It was crazy for a long time. I kept begging doctors to explain it all (it was unDxed Celiac all along) --and now, my thyroid functions NORMALLY. I take NO meds and show no antibodies and have... -
Hello and welcome! I would echo all the wonderful advice you have received already--especially in regards to giving your body time to heal. For those of us who go long Un- Dxed, it may take years to heal. Do not be discouraged by that thought, though--it gets better and better! You may wish to avoid dairy and soy for now. Lactase, which is the...

ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
IrishHeart replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stand firm and realize that he may say he cannot DX you with Celiac without a proven biopsy, but he may grant you a NCGI DX, if he is so inclined. Depends on how enlightened he is. Good luck, hon. I finally found one of those amazing docs who listens and works tirelessly to help me; maybe you will, too! You in NY by any chance??? I'll send you to... -

ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
IrishHeart replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunately, many people never get a "firm DX" from a doctor, especially from an elimination diet. They go by the diagnostic criteria in place. (I am sure you have read enough posts on here to know all this by now) and this is when you have to say "I know what it is and I will do what it takes to feel better and it does not matter whether anyone else believes... -
ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
IrishHeart replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're so right, Laura! There is a level of self-preservation here that is required--with family, friends, and doctors. Only YOU know your body best. And I also agree about writing the letter. I wrote my family and friends an informative letter after DX and it really helped me to get it all down and it helped them to understand all that had happened... -
ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
IrishHeart replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think you are right on the money with these thoughts, hon! Here is what I have learned: if you haven't walked it, you just don't get it. I think it is human nature to think "I feel so bad for her, but I am so glad that's not me." Not everyone can put themselves in another's shoes and imagine the pain and suffering someone else endures. True... -
ARCHIVED Red Dye # 40?
IrishHeart replied to Cortneysmibro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Skylark, ditto for me, too! red wine, aged cheeses and the lot. I think I told you this---I did the Failsafe diet for a month (ate enough brussels sprouts to last me a ifetime ) and it really knocked down that "histamine" response in me!! To the OP--just cut out all those things for a few months and see if you feel better. -
ARCHIVED Red Dye # 40?
IrishHeart replied to Cortneysmibro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'd like to echo Skylark and Darn's thoughts and add one more: You are still healing your gut and many foods may still be causing you grief--but it's not necessarily hidden gluten. It takes many people a long time to be able to handle foods with dyes/additives/preservatives (if ever). I had a heckofa time after first going gluten-free and I seem... -
ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
IrishHeart replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tell yourself that all the time: I am not alone and I am not crazy. It works for me. I have a friend who owns a gluten-free bakery/restaurant and she has shirts that say this on the back: "Blame it on the Gluten" Recently, in conversation with two close friends (who were not as supportive as I had hoped when I was very ill before DX)... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been Glutened And Not Had Symptoms?
IrishHeart replied to sleer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since Celiac is not diagnosed by a colonoscopy, they told you the wrong thing there. but this is true, you are lucky to know about the celiac disease now and start the diet and stop the autoimmune attack on your body. BTW, my good friend has all three--microscopic colitis, C. diff AND celiac. These are not exclusionary bowel diseases; in fact, they... -
ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
IrishHeart replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
(hugs) Hon, I feel your frustration--- and dealing with family members can be difficult when they do not really understand how the autoimmunity factor works. You are not alone. Gluten wreaks havoc in my brain. I call it Gluten Head Hell and I lived in it for 4 years. If I am accidentally CCed, it comes roaring back. Depression, anxiety, foggy thinking... -
It's not a big deal, hon--not to worry---it happens all the time. As you say, so many questions come up in the flow of a thread! I just was trying to steer it back.

I honestly do not understand how yours is written either. Mine is a lot more clearly written than that! The Doctor who ordered the test for you should be the one to INTERPRET the results for you. I do not know what a second trip to the Mayo Clinic is going to do for you, hon. IMHO You know you have Celiac from the biopsy. You have a PCP...

ARCHIVED What Do You Miss?
IrishHeart replied to celiacchef's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You bet, hon. I personally LOATHE waiting for long-cooking brown rice to cook and every single time, it invariably bubbles over and I have to clean up the mess (except for my risotto, which never does, but then, I am watching it like a hawk. ) Glad it helps you save time! They have larger bags, too--marked Family Size.
