ARCHIVED Godiva
IrishHeart replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No need to be irritated with me, as I certainly meant no harm. Gosh, I was not trying to be difficult. I was just reiterating what the company said --and I thought it was pretty clear, so I am not sure what the confusion is about. I know you did not eat the chocolates ( I saw that) and I did not mean YOU should not eat them---it was an "editorial" you... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease To Refractory Sprue
IrishHeart replied to USF1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just goes to show you how truly ignorant folks are about this disease. If she had seen what happened to me? to others on here? --she would never had made such a naive statement. I hope you get answers and I hope you'll come back and tell us what you learned. Best wishes! -
ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
IrishHeart replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
blech...I think I would be jazzed for a month from the sugar buzz and nauseous to boot! -
ARCHIVED Godiva
IrishHeart replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They make candies with gluten in them and do not wish to clean machinery in between runs, probably? (just guessing). The website has this statement: "Any person with a gluten allergy should NOT consume ANY of our products. I see this as pretty straight forward. Not CYA--but a warning. If you want to risk that, that is entirely up to you. ... -
ARCHIVED Day 6 Of gluten-free Diet
IrishHeart replied to ncteacher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, it is slow progress and you may still feel pains in your ribs and abdomen. (I did) Do not despair, but know in your heart that you are healing and that in time, this will be past you. Believe me, I know how hard this is. I am a slow healer myself (as I was DXed late in life) and it is not easy to remain patient when you hurt. Focus on the... -
ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
IrishHeart replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
"GAPS foods like meat stock, eggs, avocados, and non-starchy veg can't hurt, can it?"--Maybe they are included on a GAPS diet, but these sound like "regular foods" to me. I think the people who are Gaps advocates do not think Half-assed works. I think they say "all or nuthin'". Not sure; maybe someone will chime in here with tips for you. but... -
ARCHIVED Godiva
IrishHeart replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Honestly, their company statement is pretty emphatic, not wishy-washy or CYA, so I would never try it! Too bad; I loved Godiva. -
ARCHIVED Constipation Please Go Away
IrishHeart replied to Ninja's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it matters, my body temp is always low--96.7 --even lower at times ---and my thyroid works normally. If my temp is 99, I have a fever and man, am I sick! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease To Refractory Sprue
IrishHeart replied to USF1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do not think the OP misunderstood you, hon. I think she was just telling us --once again ---that she has been very compliant, so it CAN'T be gluten-related. Right, OP? -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease To Refractory Sprue
IrishHeart replied to USF1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, and this is exactly what most of us have been saying to the OP (gemini, psawyer, and now, you). She has been very compliant, but here she is, with villous atrophy that has returned after many years. The OP really needs to follow up with the doctor as this villous atrophy is NEW and there has to be a reason. If she has been dietary compliant, then... -
ARCHIVED Day 6 Of gluten-free Diet
IrishHeart replied to ncteacher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I echo this...it takes months, not days...and sometimes, even years for some people. It takes time to reverse damage. Take probiotics and try to be patient. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease To Refractory Sprue
IrishHeart replied to USF1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My friend with celiac also has Microscopic colitis and she often has bouts with the colitis, even though the celiac is in remission. That causes awful D. They are treating her with steroids and antibiotics, I believe. She has c. diff, too and that complicates things, but her villi are not damaged. Your doctor may do a barium follow through study... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease To Refractory Sprue
IrishHeart replied to USF1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You mean the same FDA that has approved dozens of medications and then recalls them after they cause major health hazards and side effects ...?? -
ARCHIVED Peptide Based Immunotherapy
IrishHeart replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Amen, sister! (Please see my post before yours.) Perhaps if Alice sees more of these, she will listen to reason. But maybe not. I have been telling her all this for months. -
ARCHIVED Peptide Based Immunotherapy
IrishHeart replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't really want to know how it goes, frankly. I think you're being silly, hon. This is the part you refuse to see: Every time you ingest gluten, you restart the autoimmune response and you risk serious illness. It does not matter if you throw up, crap your pants, develop a migraine or brain fog-- or feel like a million bucks after you eat that... -
ARCHIVED Yeah, But Yours Wasn't Real
IrishHeart replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Laughing is GOOD for you. I must be very strange, 'cuz my hubs looks at me like that all the time. -
ARCHIVED Question About An Mri
IrishHeart replied to lynnelise's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My mother, 2 cousins, and one of her daughters all have Arnold-Chiari Malformation. This is actually considered a rare malformation. My mother's is mild, manageable but occasionally gives her headaches. The child had surgery as a youngster and is free of symptoms. I feared that I also had this because of my symptoms, but it was ruled out. Rarely... -
ARCHIVED Couldn't Tolerate Coffe But Now I Can?
IrishHeart replied to Poppi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A ravaged gut can't tolerate MOST things, including coffee. (My list of "nopes" was very long, and it has become shorter). I added back coffee last month, but decaf. Caffeine makes my heart race too much. So, YES, I believe you are healing your gut and therefore, able to enjoy coffee once more! Cheers! -

ARCHIVED Peptide Based Immunotherapy
IrishHeart replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Alice, Are you serious? What are you doing, hon??? Give it up. I see you are trying, once again, to find some magical way on the internet to ingest gluten. We keep telling you this is not possible. Not in any small amounts in glasses of water. How many threads have your started asking us if there is a way to do this? Linking to... -
ARCHIVED Boils Anyone?
IrishHeart replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
aha! well, the ADs may well be causing the dizziness and C. They are a known side effect. Once off gluten, all that may disappear because you won't be depressed and you won't need the drugs. I would take the advice to see a derma for the boils. Hang in there. -
ARCHIVED Boils Anyone?
IrishHeart replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like a direct correlation to gluten then, hon. Those are all symptoms I can relate to. Plus constipation often accompanies hypothyroidism. For constipation, try taking probiotics and lots of water to hydrate. More veggies in your diet. Unfortunately, a gluten challenge brings on the symptoms with a vengeance. I hope you can... -
ARCHIVED Boils Anyone?
IrishHeart replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks, Bart--girl! That's the condition!! I knew I had read it--but could not recall the name. see, how we tag team so well on here! IH -
ARCHIVED Boils Anyone?
IrishHeart replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From the way you worded the topic title, my first response was "no thanks, I'm good." as it sounded like you were offering them. But I wanted to say that I had many kinds of sores and blisters pop up from gluten/celiac in various places scalp, face, back, buttocks, etc. and some members have talked about clusters of boils on their thighs and buttocks...
