  1. A celiac panel can be falsely negative for many reasons. Mine was and I have Celiac. I think the estimated number of false negatives now is 30%. A RAST test is for diagnosing allergies. Those are IgE mediated. Do you have allergies? It will not diagnose gluten intolerance or Celiac. It may tell you that you have a wheat allergy, but this is...
  2. Tamarind is safe as far as I know. "Natural flavors" means many things, yes, but if the product contains WHEAT, the product will list that. You have to train yourself to read for rye, barley, malt, oats--if not certifed gluten-free) and to know what are wheat derivatives. The company's statement is that SBR's BBQ sauce is Gluten Free. here is...
  3. Your chances of having celiac are pretty good. Your mother has it and you have symptoms consistent with it. It's not an "over-reaction", it's a reaction to gluten. I had migraines most of my life. Not anymore! A hypochondriac doesn't "make up" migraines and it's too bad your husband feels this way. It will be difficult to get support from him...
  4. Here is a recent thread with some tips for you. Use the SEARCH FORUM VIA GOOGLE at the top right corner under your profile and put in lipstick and there are many threads--just check the dates for recent info! This was was just a few months ago and it unlikely much has changed in the formulas since then.
  5. Yes! they are except ones with soy sauce in them as wheat is involved. and so is Sweet Baby Ray's--which is made by Ken's foods. Open Original Shared Link but yes, reading labels is always good practice!
  6. This is from their website--couldn't be any clearer: Allergy Information Does your chocolate contain dairy products? ALL of our dark, milk, and white chocolate may contain dairy or milk products. Any person with a dairy allergy should NOT consume ANY of our products. Does your chocolate contain nuts? ALL of our products including solid...
  7. You're a Cougar, Shroomie. roar, girlfriend.
  8. I might have said "If it isn't real, then what the hell was that in my bowl? dammit, am I hallucinating again? " You seem to be getting bombarded with "ignorance" lately, kimbaloo...sorry, honey. (hug) I saw your other post. You said you are depressed and maybe too sensitive...could be! I know when I feel this way, ordinarily stupid...
  9. If the baked potato is wrapped in foil, that may well be your best best. Eat two. ANYTHING that has a serving spoon-- even if it's cut up fresh fruit on the buffet line--could be a problem, though as Karen has suggested. If there are whole fruits, then you are in business! Or packaged pudding cups? Hey, Do they serve anything at all off a menu...
  10. Then we don't have to remind you that just because you "don't react" ...you are still doing intestinal damage and triggering the autoimmune response every time you take such risks? We are just looking out for you here, not trying to be difficult. But as is everything in life, it's certainly your choice. It is hard to deal with family that does...
  11. I'm good now. I found a young one who knows what celiac IS. Talks WITH me, not AT me and always makes me feel like I am his only patient. RETURNS MY CALLS HIMSELF! (gasp!) But he is young enough to be my son. Which is fine, as I am not breaking in any new ones. I saw maybe 30 doctors? in 3 years--- and I'm done doc-shopping.
  12. We know hon, but we honestly just don't see how it is possible. Just being honest. Buffets are too cross-contaminated. Why is "not eating" an option? I don't understand. Risking it is very dangerous, IMHO.
  13. well, some eye candy might take some of the irritation out of our frustrating doctor visits down here...
  14. Well, I am glad you popped back by, too! because I don't think I ever " met" you before and you are a bright ray of sunshine and your post about recovering and feeling so well is very encouraging!! and Back atcha!
  15. Then you would be MY fan, actually. Hubs said " Ham." I said "No, prosciutto!" because IH loves prosciutto and I think that would crisp up nicely. I put it on pizza with fresh mozz and basil. And I wrap cantaloupe with it and I use it in my penne with vodka sauce....and......
  16. Buffetts, and diners, and pot lucks = oh my! Gluten filled landmines! Gluten Russian roulette! How close is the ladies room to the tables? Would I eat there? no, never, nyet. Sorry, hon. Too chancy. I'm with Karen. Eat before you go and just enjoy the company. I would ask the family (next year) to go someplace less scary...
  17. Think of us as one big collection of the sweetest aunties and uncles you know, with open arms to hug and hankies to wipe your nose and dry your tears when you are scared and cranky and frustrated ...and to provide the occasional good swift kick in the butt when necessary. No need to drown in the muck and mire of Gluten Head Hell. (that's what I call...
  18. That IS good news because we have planted the heirloom toms before and the seeds are readily available. This summer, in they go! Thanks, GottaSki!
  19. There. That's it for me, too. I said that about 3 pages back myself. No "recipe" can fix that longing, however. We need someone to open totally dedicated fast gluten-free food joints all over the country. I know it can be done, but I do not have that kind of money.
  20. Good lawd, LOVEY! is it STILL snowing up there?
  21. Oh hon, I made peace with all that stuff a long time ago. What's done is done. Can't be undone. Just learned from. Believe me,there is no one who is more of an optimist than I am. After all I have been through, I'm still kicking and screaming and laughing . My focus now is on TODAY and getting well and getting my life back. Besides...
  22. YUP! sigh. No rushing this recovery..."it IS what is IS", as we say in my house. Some days, though....a fast-forward button would be great.
  23. The Chef (the OP) has never come back to talk with us. So we are just telling each other our desires, it seems. I know how to make sticky toffee pudding...come to my house.
  24. I am sorry to hear you are having symptoms and feeling poorly after successful remission of your symptoms for so many years. Refractory celiac disease refers to those who stop responding clinically and histologically to a gluten-free diet. But you have done so well for so long and a "sudden-onset" of symptoms and villous blunting is perplexing. GEMINI...
  25. Simona, My husband wonders if thinly sliced ham or proscuitto would work as well? Thanks, IH
