  1.
  2. Thanks for the tip!
  3. For the record, I do not see how any of these comments can be construed as "pointing fingers" or as "bullying." There are no accusatory or unkind words here. None at all! She just said she does not "personally agree".
  4. With all due respect, not to quibble, but I wish to point out that having a bout with diarrhea does not always mean it is from gluten ingestion. It can occur for many reasons: another food intolerance, too much sugar, a stomach bug, dairy, poor digestion, a medication side effect. Charcoal tablets are used in the case of food poisoning. Many people...
  5. I often had company while cooking too. But one time, when I was preparing an elaborate meal for visiting company, I "felt" as if I were being watched. I turned around to see my lab, our 3 cats and our friend's golden retriever ( who was visiting us) , all sitting there, lined up in row, STARING at me. Just waiting... Of course...
  6. It's still early in the healing process, hang in there! I have days when I am tired and wiped out and I'm a "veteran". You have some supportive people in your life and that is a very good thing. You sound like a very wise woman and you deserve a supportive, understanding mate. In the meantime, take good care of YOU! Best wishes, IH
  7. I have a cat, sweetie. My doggie, Gracie is romping in doggie heaven, causing trouble no doubt.
  8. Not to "stray" too off topic (get it, stray? ) but my cat, Bella was sick as a dog when she came to us--thin, terrible coat, full of ticks, cuts, etc. and we put her on a Grain free cat food RIGHT away and she gets treats of fresh fish, chicken or beef, bits of cheese, if she wants it. She tends to like "people food" too. (she was so small, we...
  9. Yes! I agree--the good old salt water rinse--worked on my mouth sores pre-DX, too. I'm with you! I was thinking..... My aunt only brushed with baking soda her whole life and had great teeth. I think we have too many substances going IN our mouths period. Sadly, though, we need the docs, dentists and Xrays sometimes.... can't get around them...
  10. Well, that explains a LOT. I had to use the Peridex quite a bit-- post surgeries-- last summer and fall and I kept feeling lousy. As I said previously, I am sure it is not gluten, but post-dental work always gives me a few bad days stomach & bowel- wise. Thanks for the added info!
  11. Since an estimated 30% of Celiacs test negative on blood work (I am one of them ), there can be no real conclusions drawn here. Plus, you said you had "significantly reduced your gluten intake". That will affect the accuracy of testing. The real question is: How do you feel OFF gluten? And I don't mean "significantly reduced" intake. I mean NO...
  12. You are in my boat--a "false NEGATIVE" tester on all fronts. Makes one wonder about the accuracy of testing.... As for your MIL, well, I have to agree with SQUIRMING ITCH...she may be an unhappy camper for many reasons (her own illness and discomfort) -- not that it justifies her unkindness towards you--not at all--but perhaps, just explains it? That...
  13. Yes, that is a good point! Delayed reactions and prolonged reactions are quite common. If I am accidentally CCed, I have symptoms for up to 3 weeks, including neurological ones. (This is MY experience, though--others do not have symptoms lingering for that long. )
  14. Yes, it was worth it! and my tight jeans prove it. Glad you feel better, hon. My guess is you just "overdid it". And I do not blame you--you should see what I ate the first time my friend (a professional chef) cooked for me. Let's just say...OINK! One thing you might consider is offering your friends who will be cooking for you a flexible cutting...
  15. You gave him plenty of reading material--Yet, he STILL continues to choose places for you BOTH that offer only "pizza, pasta or fried something" as you put it? Oh sweetie, He is either not really interested in learning about something that is very important to your safety and well-being and is very self-centered OR he read it and is just not...
  16. Feel free! But I have to give my 85- year-old Mom her due "props" however, as I stole it from HER! I still remember the first time I said it in front of a classroom and the students went ballistic.
  17. I was just going to point her to those lists--but I see Skylark has already done it! (great minds and all..... )
  18. Nope, I lied . ...I have one more (in keeping with the original thought) Coniecturalem artem esse medicinam - (Aulus Cornelius Celsus)-- "Medicine is the art of guessing." yes indeed
  19. and, one more: "Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another, Even Though Sometimes It's Hell in the Hallway" (unknown)
  20. When asked to what she attributed her long and happy life, Julia Child said cheerfully: " BEEF and GIN."
  21. "You can never get a cup of tea large enough, or a book long enough, to suit me." --C. S. Lewis
  22. Found this article for you! It is definitely NOT safe--as we suspected. Open Original Shared Link
  23. There are people who have Celiac that do not have either of these two genes. They are learning more and more --through research-- about the genetics involved. And Skylark is right; you can still be very ill from gluten and have a sensitivity to it, even if you are if not a full-blown Celiac. Even the "top celiac docs" are starting to agree--there...
  24. First of all....I am so sorry you are going through all this. Secondly, I had a MIL who was very difficult to get along with, despite all my best efforts and kindness towards her so, I know it just makes everything else going on with you all the more complicated to have her "in your face". Third, I share your deep frustration at being unable to...
