ARCHIVED Weird Looking "object" In Gluten-Free Mall Banner
IrishHeart replied to RiceGuy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
One more try. Look at the size of her hand. You are missing the perspective...from this amateur photographer's point of view. She is leaning forward with her right arm thrust forward and that is why her hand is so big. She is showing us the lolli and her right shoulder is torqued forward. Her right-side ponytail pieces are blown forward in... -
ARCHIVED Nowhere Left To Go But Insane
IrishHeart replied to GlutenFreeRampage's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sadly, I tried them all--even Seroquel--and it made me jump right out of my skin all night long. None of those things worked for me. Instead of helping me sleep, they created a hyperactive mind. So, then I was not only exhausted, but I was wide awake and dopey, but racing in my head and heart. Oddly, my BP was 80/50. My doctor suggests that when gut... -
ARCHIVED Nowhere Left To Go But Insane
IrishHeart replied to GlutenFreeRampage's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I had it. Lots of anger and irritability. I did not say it was not okay or that it was not part of the complexity of gluten-induced mania. I explained more fully what I meant in the post above. Perhaps I worded it wrong and I explained what I meant further. I meant his glaring rage and over-the-top stuff about Jews, etc. I am just trying... -

No one gets "wired" better than I do. I used the phrase wired-for-sound to describe my bizarre gluten-induced lunacy I suffered for 3 years. I get it. I do. What I meant by raging anger was the pretty outrageous stuff you talk about --hatred for other cultures, calling people hypocrites, poisoning crops, wanting to hurt others...yada yada yada... -

You want to tell your eye doctor this, hon---so they can dilate your pupils to make sure there are no retinal tears. (I see it without pressing on it) Best wishes, IH

ARCHIVED Biopsy Results - No Dh
IrishHeart replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I wrote (somewhat paraphrasing, but mostly that is directly from Chapter 11 ) all of that to explain even small doses of gluten by nibbling/cheating or even trace CC sparks the immune response all over again. If the antibodies stay in the skin for more than 2 years, a strict gluten-free diet is necessary. Dapsone helps, according to the materials... -
You aren't missing anything. You are doing the best thing you can do for your body by being strictly gluten free. Most AI diseases have no known cause and no cure, only treatments. At least we KNOW what sparks the autoimmune attack in celiac disease, (gluten) and we know the treatment and we can put the disease process into remission. Many Celiacs...

My vision has cleared. I did, however, recently have a sudden onset of blurred vision, black floaters or "cobwebs" and lightning in the corner of my right eye. Went to the ER, fearing retinal detachment, but it was "only" vitreous detachment, which hopefully will clear itself. The eye doc said I dodged a bullet for now. These annoying floaters were numerous...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Results - No Dh
IrishHeart replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
One of the problems with the wiki article is it says "there is a strong relationship between DH and celiac" and NO citation is provided. IMHO--There is more than a "strong relationship". DH IS the skin manifestation of CELIAC. From Celiac Disease: The Hidden Epidemic. Dr. Peter H. R. Green and Rory Jones "DH was first described by Dr Louis Duhring... -
The good thing about music (from any era ) is....you haven't really "missed it"..... you can always listen to it ! Music is timeless, kiddo.

ARCHIVED Grandson Has Been Tested
IrishHeart replied to notme's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hogwash. Gluten- free eating is probably MORE healthy for everyone! MY GI doctor says our "diet" is better than the SAD (standard American diet) which includes food additives, chemicals, MSG and high fructose corn syrup and sugar. As long as he gets a balance of lean proteins, beans, fruits, vegs, low-fat dairy, healthy fats and fiber, including... -
Actually, he should have said that ALL people with DH have celiac. DH is the skin manifestation of celiac disease. It's not a "take the pills OR go gluten-free" -gluten is what CAUSES DH. When a person with celiac disease consumes gluten, the mucosal immune system in the intestine responds by producing a type of antibody called immunoglobulin A (IgA...

I know you have had lots of blood work done, but one of the ones they forget to do is FOLATE levels. My tanked B-12 and D were already supplemented and high, but I was still dragging so much and I was wiped out. So, what was it?? I read about how Celiacs often have some type of anemia: iron deficency, B-12 or Folate.... OR a combination of them! ...

I concur with what KarenG said.....and the doctor should know this. -
Fantastic news! Good for you, too! My hair is still thin-ish and my pain level is still high, but any time I hear another progress report, I am inspired beyond words. Have even driven a bit recently, too. I lost that ability when my reflexes were so shot, my vision blurred and my anxiety level uncharacteristically sky high. I nearly lost everything...

I NEVER lose hope that the secondary intolerances will resolve in time (just stubborn I guess ) but I wept a bit for you, honey! and ....chocolate is not my pal right now either....waaaaa. Never say never! Can you have other "goodies" at least to satisfy that sweet tooth?

I hope that list I also gave you in your Newbie thread (which has now evolved into the "Newbie Info 101" permanent thread in the Coping Section)helped you with the grocery shopping, hon. In time, this will become second nature to you. Try to keep YOURSELF stocked with foods you can eat! (You cannot depend on others to provide gluten-free snacks...

My tastes lean toward Vivalde, Ella Fitzgerald, Buddy Guy, Etta James, Dave Brubeck.... and a spectrum so wide people would think me odd...(just no country) but as far as "alternative bands" go, these guys are not so bad. Certainly NOT the band of the 21st century. (sorry) IMHO

We don't need a lot of details to help you with dietary advice. But here is what I see: YOU said: "From time to time, I've cheated and drank a couple beers. I know that gluten-free beer does exist, but it's sold in a town a half-hour away and costs between 8-10 dollars for a six pack... and I have no idea if it's good or tastes like pee. Too big of... -
I think most people fail to think of celiac disease as being a serious life-threatening autoimmune disease. Most view it as "gastro problems". Clearly, this is a mistake.

ARCHIVED Still having problems after 4 years
IrishHeart replied to Bell232's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry you still feel so bad. You do not say, but is your HOME gluten free? Are you still serving gluten-filled foods to others? Cross contamination and unsuspected/accidental gluten ingestion can cause lingering symptoms.
