  1. Yes, I agree totally.... and my GI doctor told me flat out....even if your oozey scalp scabs are not "classic DH", it is still related to Celiac. They are all gone, but only reappear if I am glutened. I also have severely burning skin--from head to toe. (4 years now--ugh!) I also read that DH is much more common in men. The only way my cousin's wife even...
  2. I know--and I do have those on the list, I just failed to type the word "peeled", so I added that word. I ate a LOT of those. I am not sure amines are Squrimy's problem? but she can try it. None of us like these special diets, but I did it for a month and felt better.
  3. Yes, a month is required, but I know she has already been on a low sal, etc. diet for some time, I was just trying to see if the extra exclusions helped her at all. I will go back and put in peeled potatoes, and peeled pears, but it says pears in syrup. and yes about the Brussels sprouts recipe, which is why I said "herbs and booze can be omitted...
  4. Jane, did you ever call the GI doctor I recommended? He is the best guy in this area!
  5. Source: Dermatitis Herpetiformis: Skin Manifestation of Celiac Disease. National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse. Accessed: Sept. 5, 2010. Open Original Shared Link Question: If I have dermatitis herpetiformis, do I also have celiac disease? I've been diagnosed with the skin rash dermatitis herpetiformis. Does this mean I also have celiac...
  6. I love that name, too! That's what I read: A diagnosis of DH is a DX of Celiac. It does not exclude a thyroid disorder as well, but DH IS Celiac. I'll keep looking....
  7. Vaseline is my to-go lip balm and it comes in a small tube. I was using CLEURE for awhile,as it is free of gluten and salicyates, but then realized it had soybean oil (bummer)
  8. Welcome to the fold. As for Prilosec and other GERD medicines, I stopped taking all of those things after I went gluten-free because the symptoms I had for 12 years stopped. I did not wean off and that may have been a mistake. But I have no more GERD or "IBS" --no abdominal pain, or stomach burning or pain or any cramping--and that's the great news...
  9. Yes, DH is the skin manifestation of Celiac Disease. And yes, it's true that not everyone with Celiac has DH, but everyone with DH has Celiac. From the Univ. of Maryland Center for Celiac Research "Is it necessary to have an intestinal biopsy to confirm the diagnosis of Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH)?" A skin biopsy is sufficient to confirm the...
  10. and you sleep soundly with a satisfied grin on your face
  11. Sorry you are having such a bad day. One of the most frustrating things for me is the unpredictability of some foods (which are fine one day) and are suddenly not "okay" for me the next. No pattern. Nothing I can figure out. I have tried. I chock it up to my still-healing gut. Is it possible it is not the pizza, but a stomach bug? or something...
  12. To make Brussels Sprouts more exciting (because on the diet, that's about all you can eat) Saute' 2-3 plump sliced shallots in 2 TBLS. butter (and/or bacon drippings) until lightly brown, then, add and bring to a boil: 1 cup veg stock or water 1 bay leaf 1 sprig thyme several sprigs fresh paresly 3 TBLS. port or dry sherry (optional...
  13. This is what I did. I took the Failsafe Diet suggestions for the various food sensitivities and made one list of safe foods. It takes out EVERYTHING (sals, amines, nitrates, all additives, preservatives, MSG, chemicals etc.) B O R I N G but effective. It excludes poultry, and all nuts except cashews. Hardly any fruits or vegs. White rice...
  14. sounds like a plan
  15. Well, I doubt SHE has a smiley face on today, but if your point was to prove something to her and get her to be strictly dietary compliant, then I guess it was worth it? I feel sorry for her pain. Hope she rebounds quickly.
  16. The Custom Probiotics I use are POWDER--(not capsules)nothing else. FWIW I hope you get continuous relief soon. I have done the diet to eliminate sals/amines/nitrates, sulphites, MSG/chemicals before myself, so I do understand all about cumulative effect. I had a build-up in me from using so many herbals and supplements (I saw a NP and...
  17. Maybe this thread can offer some suggestions? Welcome to the Forum!
  18. 13.It never asks "Was it good for you?", sparing you the inevitable feigned "oh yes, absolutely" 14. You do not care if it doesn't call you in the next few days. You are "cool with it". 15. If you cheat on it with a sexy baguette, it doesn't get jealous. 16. No chance of STDs and no need for birth control.
  19. Honestly, the tiny amount of chicory root extract may be so negligible that it does not matter, but I know you are trying to avoid as much as you can, so I understand why you wish to avoid that brand for now. Custom Probiotics --also pricey--but very effective and worth it. The owner will speak with you on the phone and tell you what's in them....
  20. I can offer a few thoughts(FWIW) Mamaw is right about hypothyroidism and blood sugar spikes and dips. If it is not your thyroid, it could just be you need to eat a balanced amount of proteins/carbs throughout the day. Eat MORE protein & less carbs in small amounts and if you do have a carb,(ex. crackers) make sure you eat protein(ex. nut butter...
  21. Good for you! Yaay! I know you have struggled this past year, yet here you are, reporting such good news. Slow and steady progress is proof that the body can heal. One thing that helped me in the last year of healing was to come to terms with how long it takes to recover. While I do not like the idea of a slow recovery, it beats the hell out of...
  22. I was thinking, if your gums are sore and "peeling", you could also have periodontal disease. My lips often peeled and I had sores on my mouth and inside--from gluten. See the doctor who diagnosed your celiac right away!! Since you are a minor, can you get your parents on board with the gluten -free diet? Surely they understand you have this...
  23. mais non!......the irony is not lost on MOI. oh man, we used to bake the most outrageous french baguettes....sigh slather on some baked brie and top with fig jam... oh buggers, I just made myself cry.
  24. I don't think so, but anything is possible, I guess. I read that Splenda may have a natural laxative effect. Why not use sugar, maple syrup, stevia--all natural foods? "The list of reported side effects from Splenda is long and varied, according to an article by Dr. Betty Martini on Rense.com. Side effects include skin irritation, itching and swelling...
