  1. This link does not work. Can you try another? Thanks, Beachbirdie!
  2. That list is perfect, hon! Readers may want to know about this--so they can ask their doctors! You "did good". Thanks a bunch!
  3. Since my doctor routinely checks people with celiac disease for Crohn's (and he did for me, since it is in my family) he seems to think they are related. Do people with Crohn's also have Celiac? Yes! She has another AI disease already (thyroid), so she may want to ask for a Celiac test from her GI doctor. Otherwise, whether your friend will benefit...
  4. Hold on, hon. You're doing too much work!! Maybe I am not making myself clear in what I am asking, sorry! I know how the medical community tests for pernicious anemia... here is what I am asking: How does the author of this book --someone who self-diagnosed her B-12 anemia--suggest doctors should determine that a B-12 deficiency exists BESIDES...
  5. where are our heads???
  6. Thanks for taking the time to decipher it all for us, Skylark! I always appreciate your research. I am also glad you made it clear this is not about "cross-reactivity". I was worried about corn at the beginning of my gluten-free life because nothing seemed to agree with me for many months. I had removed dairy and soy and I still felt lousy. I...
  7. You bet! I only happen to know about it because she and I had talked about that article ---and I knew she was going to write that informative post. It is very interesting stuff!
  8. Before DX, I was "encouraged to exercise" by doctors, PTs and chiropractors who felt that "being out shape" was part of my problem. so I dutifully walked (dragged myself) on a treadmill at the gym 3X a week for 3 months. I would have to stop because I was dizzy --or because I had to use the bathroom AGAIN, ---but I held on for dear life on that thing. My...
  9. Yes and I think it is very important to note that neuropathy is caused by many medical conditions, like MS and diabetes and shingles, etc. ---not just a B-12 deficiency. So whenever a new person comes on here and says "I have numbness and tingling", many members say "Take B-12!" ...but, that is not necessarily wise because we do not know the CAUSE...
  10. I know this is just a typo--but it cracked me up. I pictured this young, good looking guy who..... but I digress!
  11. Pernicious anemia is a decrease in red blood cells that occurs when your intestines cannot properly absorb vitamin B12. No need to do all that typing or scanning! Too much work. I just wanted to know HOW she came up with the additional tests that she says should be used IN connection with the serum B-12 test ? I am just curious! Elevated homocysteine...
  12. I see, so what additional tests ARE recommended, then? or how do they determine if it is NOT pernicious anemia? and what is their research based on--do they say?? thanks! you've got my attention...
  13. I am not doubting your statement--or you, hon--but where did you read this? I would like to know --for my own knowledge. Thanks.
  14. smart chickie!
  15. L-glutamine is thought to aid in mucosal repair in the gut. Some people report it helps. It won't hurt! Digestive enzymes can be purchased over the internet, if you are having trouble finding them in the drug store. (I use Enzymedica Digest Gold, but others may have suggestions for you) Culturelle is a good OTC probiotic. Drs. Sherwood L. Gorbach...
  16. It happened to me, too--and I WAS under two doctor's supervision. I think you have been very clear about your good intentions in this thread, hon--no need to keep defending it. You said nothing wrong that I can see! FWIW It's all good!
  17. Really? You really think anyone would suddenly stop taking a medically- prescribed supplement based on this thread? No one is "being hard on B-12." Not at all-- You did not read what I said very carefully. IMHO I had a B-12 deficiency for YEARS. Now, I do not. I am HIGH in B-12. Too high. Why? Absorption returned and I did not need it. I was...
  18. Skylark posted this other thread a few days ago. Just FYI
  19. Thank you for posting this. I have been saying this on threads for a while, but no one wants to hear it. Everyone says "but they are water-soluble". ...meaning they are not stored in the body. That's true, but that also means it is important to provide an adequate supply through a balanced diet. That does not mean they are not CIRCULATING in...
  20. Actually, it does say why (according to the medical experts). If these tests measure high antibodies to food proteins, and this doctor is saying there is no evidence that it even happens, how can it be measured?
  21. That IS interesting! Since the premise of IgG testing is that you have to be actively consuming a specific food protein for an antibody to it to show, how is that possible?? The "treatment" is to REMOVE that food protein so the antibodies die down and theoretically, you can tolerate them once more. hmmm....
  22. Sure! I use Digest Gold Open Original Shared Link
  23. Don't know if you have tried this, but digestive enzymes before a meal aid digestion and taking probiotics helps to heal the imbalance in our guts. Just a thought!
  24. okay, hon--best wishes!
  25. I had this bookmarked from Glutenfreeworks...and maybe it will be of some help? Edema
