ARCHIVED Help With Possible Dairy Intolerance
IrishHeart replied to kaki-clam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I used it the EB in baked goods, bread, muffins, etc. It worked fine. -
No, you were not curt at all, Babs! I took no offense whatsoever. No worries. I was being encouraging, saying, "go for it if you want to"!! I completely understand how you feel. I really, really do. It actually makes my heart hurt sometimes to read posts like yours. It was my life for so long--constant, unrelenting pain. I think you should give...

ARCHIVED Celiac Means No Coffee?
IrishHeart replied to moose07's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me, too. If there were gluten in coffee, or if we all "cross-react" to coffee, I'd be dead by now. PEOPLE!! Now we have 2 simultaneous equally-misleading threads going declaring "coffee is bad for celiacs" ....it will die a nice, peaceful death if people would stop bringing it back to life with the paddles!! -
NO. There is no gluten in plain coffee--instant or brewed. In the June 2010 publication of Gluten Free Living, they state "Plain coffee is gluten free. This includes ground regular and decaffeinated and instant coffee. Flavored coffee has always been considered suspicious in the gluten-free community, but in most cases it, too, is gluten free." If...

Honey, you should absolutely try anything to relieve the pain and insomnia. I have been in your shoes and I tried EVERYTHING, too. Again, I was not trying to dissuade you, just inform. You may tolerate it like a champ! I hope so. I want you to feel better. Do whatever you need to do!

ARCHIVED Help With Possible Dairy Intolerance
IrishHeart replied to kaki-clam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yes, like Bubba's Mom (or BM as I have called her for short on threads, but she probably does not like that )--- I use the Earth Balance Soy free too. You can cook with it and use it in baking, too. Works great. It's a blend of healthy omega oils. It's not my favorite flavor, to be honest, but until I could tolerate dairy, it was very... -
Additional products people ask about: San-J Organic Tamari Gluten Free Soy Sauce is available. McCormick single spice/herbs and vanilla are gluten free. For spice blends, be sure to read the labels!! Spice blends can not hide grain (gluten). Seasoning blends are a whole different ball game.

IrishHeart replied to crissy82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
May I offer you a list of unsafe/safe foods, sources of hidden gluten, etc. all in one place? I felt the same way you did at first--overwhelmed !!--and when I wanted to inform my family, I gathered it all together and wrote it out. Eventually, I put everything I learned into one thread: Also, there are FAQs--frequently asked questions... -

ARCHIVED Gluten,candy,cigarettes!
IrishHeart replied to RashyA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you are having a bad time right now, hon! ((hug)) No one thinks you are a terrible person for letting off steam--not at all. We get to vent on here!! Reese's cups are gluten free. Your symptoms are not coming from that. Your DH may be flaring from other causes. You might want to look at the threads under DH for some ideas? You... -
ARCHIVED Good News! A Real Diagnosis!
IrishHeart replied to birdie22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Flax seed works! It helps with gut motility, too. ROSETAPPER may have some other thoughts about this. She uses it in conjunction with the safflower oil (which I also do) and I sometimes use evening primrose oil caps. Iron can cause stomach distress, heartburn and serious constipation. (it may not be the multi, but the added iron) Honestly... -
Low dose amitryptilline is often prescribed for conditions like IBS because the gastros believe it quiets the nerves in the gut and stops the spasms. 10 mgs is what they start off with and go up in increments of 10 mgs. I suggest you take it at bedtime because it makes you drowsy. I tried it years ago for 6 months. He had me on 30 mgs. and I wondered...

ARCHIVED Good News! A Real Diagnosis!
IrishHeart replied to birdie22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't blame you one bit. I could never withstand a gluten challenge now. Well, I am guessing you know what to do then. Stay off gluten and feel better and better! I still have muscle/joint pain too and I hope for it to resolve more as I get well. Similar to ROSETAPPER's advice, I have increased my EFAs with fish oil, flax oil etc. and hope for... -
ARCHIVED Non-Specific White Matter On Mri? Anyone Else Have This?
IrishHeart replied to Cara in Boston's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I saw this topic title and thought....they should PM Raven...but here she is! and Sjorgen's comes to mind as well. Elevated IgA levels are found in various autoimmune disorders and infections, but given your family history and his symptoms, well...gluten intolerance seems very possible. Just because he is negative on blood work doesn't rule... -
ARCHIVED I Have News
IrishHeart replied to Mateto's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are several forms of anemia-- B-12 deficiency, Folate deficiency, Iron deficiency. What exactly did she say?? How much did she say to supplement with? -
ARCHIVED Celiac Means No Coffee?
IrishHeart replied to moose07's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some products do carry "Gluten Free" labels without necessity. I see it on cheeses, popcorn, meats, etc. --that sort of thing. I do not know why they put it there, since those foods are inherently gluten-free , except perhaps to appeal to the gluten free consumers. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Means No Coffee?
IrishHeart replied to moose07's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Before we all get carried away with this again, let's reiterate plain coffee does not contain gluten. Can it be contaminated during the preparation process? sure, why not--- depends on who made the coffee. If you are having pains, could it be you just cannot tolerate coffee?? I do not doubt you have pain, hon--not at all! -
He is one of the "top guns" too! Good for you!!

ARCHIVED Beware B Vitamin Toxicity!
IrishHeart replied to SGRhapsodos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes! This is exactly what I did ----and still do. But the question is...do they all LOOK at it? When I was given the B-12 and Folate supps because of deficiencies, they both SAW it. They both knew I was supplementing. One test came back HIGH B6, so he said stop that, but he did not say stop ALL the Bs. The other one came back HIGH B-12, so... -
I think that is your answer then. CC is getting you. I agree--this constant 24/7 bone/muscle pain I live with---very OOOLLLLDDD but at least it is LESS...! Dr. Fasano--lucky girl! I would have given anything to have met him when I was wandering aimlessly from doctor to doctor for 3 years before DX. I'd love to ask him a ton of questions! ...

IrishHeart replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My 85- year- old Mom went gluten-free after my DX and is doing very well on it, so good for your Mom, too!! If it helps, I collected some basic safe and easy food menus and all the links to hidden gluten, safe/unsafe foods etc., gluten-free certified companies, etc. for my family and posted it here, if you want to print some of that off for her? ARCHIVED Balance And Falling
IrishHeart replied to Songbird1976's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No one is joking about other people's brains, or making light of ataxia, I assure you. We had it ourselves and recovered for the most part and we are trying to be encouraging, that's all. Of course, NONE of what happened to us is funny. That's not what we meant at all. I have provided the OP with all of these links to gluten ataxia on PM conversations... -
Since the pain is in your left side, it is not probably your gall bladder.I had continuing abdominal pain in my abdomen for at least 9 months after DX. I could not, for the life of me, figure out why. The GI did a barium GI study and it revealed nothing. He said "give it time. Stay off gluten and dairy." I did and it's gone. But a lot of muscle, tissues...
