  1. Allergies do not give you stomach pain. They cause histamine responses. You may wish to read about the differences between allergies and intolerances and CELIAC . Contrary to what people say, Celiac is not a "gluten allergy". I am not sure what you think you will gain from allergy testing. Corn is difficult for many people to digest, especially...
  2. I noticed a drastic reduction in seasonal and environmental allergies. Last summer, the ragweed did not bother me one bit. I'll let you know after the maples bloom this month if I am totally "cured". I had a dust mite allergy and multiple chemical sensitivities (to perfumes, aromas, candles, etc..) arise while very ill from the celiac, my eyes...
  3. My sympathy on the loss of your Mom. I suspect your were hit by too much mayo (and possibly some CC issue), maybe the dairy and frankly, your whole body is just stressed horribly by your loss. My heart goes out to you. My Dad's death was the last trigger that put me over the edge into full blown Celiac. Grieving his loss and battling dozens of bizarre...
  4. It is possible your lactose intolerance is a result of the Celiac. The villi in your gut are blunted and lactase, which is the enzyme needed to digest lactose, is produced in the tips of the villi. When the villi heal, most celiacs can tolerate lactose once more. Some cannot. If you drink Lactaid and suffer no bloating, diaarhea, cramping, etc. then...
  5. I know that many Celiacs do just fine in a house shared with GEs (gluten eaters), and I know from everything I have researched that the majority of Celiacs are not affected by handling wheat bread or flours if they wash their hands afterwards, BUT I suspect that inadvertent CC does keep many people from truly healing. I am only saying this...
  6. whaa??? Your nutrionist does not know what she is talking about, hon. Sorry. I am sorry your endocrinologist didn't just make the call from these results, if having a solid DX will make you feel more at ease. And I do understand the confusion and frustration you are feeling, believe me! Read the responses these people with real experiences...
  7. A chunk of that with some champagne? oh baby, I'm purring like a kitten. I'd love to hear your recipe too!! I might as well totally burst the zipper on my jeans...
  8. Did you ask if he flipped a coin for that diagnosis? What an ass hat.
  9. The sad thing is....they would not even see WHY their responses are so ridiculous!!! I DID say something to several of the practitioners whose behavior I reported to you guys in my long post. I got silence in return and one half-hearted apology left on voicemail that sounded like a lawyer had written it and he had practiced it. Carefully worded...
  10. Great minds again, dearie! Are you reading my mind somehow? you are, aren't you?.... Scary woman! I had emailed her earlier with this same thought. I know EatMeat has pretty hair down right down to her butt!! I suggested a mask from the drug store, but I also know if she gets even a whiff of gluten, she gets DH sores .... We shall all keep...
  11. My childhood friend, diagnosed with MS for 25 years, has kept her MS at bay, even running the Boston Marathon years ago by taking gluten (and in fact, all grains) out of her diet. She is healthier and more energetic than most people I know. She is an inspiration.
  12. I found this one article written by Jane Anderson, who frequently writes about celiac disease. Question: Can I Get Symptoms from Inhaling Airborne Gluten? Answer: There is indeed evidence that it's possible. One medical study backs the idea that it's possible to experience celiac disease symptoms by inhaling gluten, rather than eating it. In addition...
  13. That's Baloney! Who told you this giant lie??
  14. If you make this chocolate cake once, I promise you will be very happy. I made it for my friends, both professional chefs, and one of them kept eating and mumbling Omygawshishishfabshush!! which I interpreted as "Oh my God, this is fabulous". It's easy to make and is decadent with a little fresh vanilla (or almond)- spiked whipped cream and...
  15. I just saw my earlier posts on this thread (from nearly a year ago) and have to clarify something I said. While I have not tried a Snickers Bar again (and they are probably fine for most people)--- I was not very clear in my reply about the Enjoy Life chocolate chips and bars. I tolerate them very well! They have given me NO adverse...
  16. My. Choice. Too.
  17. I have to ask: What doctor ordered the test and what were you told? Who is doing your follow up care?
  18. Since the majority of us are battling anemia, the vampire would probably spit it out and scream "Blech! what the hell is this crap!? Where's the good stuff?"
  19. DANI, my dear, I am sorry you are struggling so much right now. I understand totally-- as my first six months gluten-free were so turbulent and I had already had a horrible 3 years before that. It is discouraging, but that does not mean you are not getting well. But one thing I know is, you need to view all this in perspective. You...
  20. Funny you mention this!!! today, (because it was more fun than Spring cleaning )...I was thinking of going with the flapper outfit from when I played Flo in the musical "Good News"....boa and all. Think it'll work??
  21. I hadn't thought to mention it, but yes, too much sugar and MSG? --those mess with me too. Moody, foggy and out of sorts, heart palps, headaches, blech. UGH. Good advice about thyroid and vit/mineral levels, Prickly. I guess I thought Dani had checked those already?
  22. I feel pretty "off" for a long time after a gluten CC. Nearly 3 weeks last time In addition to the recurrence of severe joint/muscle pain, anxiety, cognitive impairment, & insomnia, I have a major swing in moods. I hate that part the most. I call it the return of the seven dwarves: weepy, cranky, racy, spacey, dopey, angry and achy. Not...
  23. I wonder if we move your thread to the cooking section if those creative people wouldn't come up with better ideas for you than mine. It may not be viewed as much in this section, hon. Okay, by you if we move it there? I'll leave an arrow directing it to that new spot.
  24. Root veggies chips are good. Lara Bars maybe? Nuts.com makes a yummy Certified gluten-free veggies chip, if you're lazy. They also have dozens of certified gluten-free nuts and dried fruits in sealed packets that may be very helpful! Are you okay with chili? I have a good turkey black bean chili recipe. Not sure how it will transport to the field...
  25. Ha! that IS a good question! I keep wondering that myself. Everyone is different, so none of us can say for sure. The thing my doc told me that I hold onto it....they usually resolve. Hope he's right. Okay, well, to avoid getting CCed in a gluten kitchen, can you take a small slow cooker with you? Also, your own pot with a cover? Some utensils...
