  1. well, I made it from 8 pm to 8 pm, at any rate, except for morning tea to get me out the door. I wasn't supposed to eat anything on Friday but then I thought, I don't get enough calories in the day for the past few weeks, and I don't want to lose weight or anything. So I had a bowl of rice, olive oil, & salt and then some mixed nuts. I hate food, but...
  2. Getting rid of soya specifically has stopped my random bouts of crying and depression that would come out of nowhere, even when my life was going really well. I would get this profound feeling of emptiness and emotional confusion and eventually took to self-harm and a lot of manipulative behaviour to distract myself from it. I pulled myself out of the worst...
  3. The way to build up willpower is to exercise it, just like with muscles. Give things up for 24 hours at a time--not food necessarily, but things like internet or television, maybe. Sleep on the floor one night. That kind of thing. It was fasting during Lent and so forth that made the diet easier for me to transition into... it was weird to switch from not...
  4. At the moment? My goals are to perform a proper elimination diet and to get over the effects of gluten or casein CC I got hit with recently. I also need the spiritual cleansing. Helping wean myself from the material pleasures of food so that being unable to eat certain foods does not make me so petulant and depressed.
  5. yeah, seriously. You can also soak beans while you are sleeping. You can leave them in water until you are ready to cook them. It WILL save you money in the long run, make less waste, and CROCKPOT is MIRACLE I have to say.
  6. I have done 24 hour fasts before. Good Friday and so forth. During the first week of Lent I have fasted from all food except one plain meal of rice at the end of the day (traditional meal is bread, haha). By the end of the week I am exhausted but I have a good meal of protein and so forth and the life comes back into me. I was wondering if a very long...
  7. I have the same problem. There are some medicines like that which keep me up but if I take half the dose they put me down. Caffeine makes me alert if I have one cup of tea, and sleepy if I have a cup of coffee's worth or more. Pain medications don't work for my headaches, but do help with cramps so idk if I am immune to pain meds or if only my headaches...
  8. How long is it safe not to eat or drink anything except for water?
  9. ah. maybe I should just eat meat and white rice for a few weeks.
  10. I eat a lot of canned fruits because they are cheaper than fresh fruits and ready-prepared. If you have a safe space to cook, I would cook. It is MUCH cheaper to buy dried beans and soak them overnight and boil them the next day than to buy canned beans with hella salt in them and whatever else. you just have to have some foresight and know when you're gonna...
  11. update. I had started to feel better yesterday, after reintroducing rice & olive oil. My reflux went down immediately to only after meals for a short while rather than persisting all day. My bowels are a little gassy from time to time, but overall much better. I think it might've been legumes-- I was eating peas and chickpeas constantly. I think with...
  12. I am keeping a food journal. How long do I need to persevere with this diet till I know I am over all possible withdrawals or getting-used-to-it-pain and need to rethink my diet or even consider the possibility that my fatigue and headaches are not caused by food? Because if I can't get over the headaches and fatigue, there is no point testing new foods...
  13. I usually have the meat (with oil from stir-frying) and vegetables mixed together in one meal. When I reintroduce rice tomorrow I will add it to the meat and veg and maybe that will balance it out. I don't know what to do for carbs, though, if I don't have rice... which again makes me think that I shouldn't eliminate it unless it is the last possible neurological...
  14. UPDATE. ADVICE IS STILL WANTED. I discovered that my multivitamin has cornstarch as one of the main ingredients. I have stopped taking them, but still take vit D and iron and B12 and melatonin at night. I am sure that the melatonin and B12 is safe for an elimination diet (I have the ingredients) but no longer have the ingredients for the others. I think...
  15. I totally get you about the reading about food in books thing, seeing it eaten in films and whatnot. I'm used to passing restaurants and cafes etc because I do it every day but then I will read a book with a food passage in it and be hit with celiac again. Which is why in my books and short stories that I write, the food is all subtly gluten-free. I...
  16. I don't take any medicines on a regular basis, just gluten-free vitamin supplements and melatonin at night. If I do take any medicine it is usually generic Tylenol, which is gluten-free, but I don't take it regularly enough for it to cause my general malaise. I don't think I am reacting to rice, because I eat rice every day and have good days and bad days...
  17. I get my headaches right in my eyebrows, and in my cheeks when they get really bad. "back of head" headaches were always related to neck and back pain for me. When I sleep in a wrong position or sit with bad posture for a long time. idk about the relation to gluten.
  18. I get outside for a 20 minute walk every day, or sometimes even 60 minutes of walking. But I live in Ireland, so it is very cloudy all the time. I do supplement vitamin D though.
  19. I am trying, at the moment, to rid myself of fatigue, headaches, moodiness, and muscle aches. These things come and go, rather than being constant, so I am inclined to think they are food-related. I don't think CC can be an issue any more because I hardly eat out and I live by myself in an apartment that was totally cleaned when I moved in and hasn't had...
  20. I agree about the sleep thing. I'm useless without 8 straight hours of sleep and I do my best with 9 or 10 a night. Also, I find that taking late, long naps (anything past 2 pm or longer than 40 min) just creates a vicious nap-taking cycle that is hard to break out of.
  21. I would have a restaurant/bakery that had at least two or three allergen-free meals... a lot of places are gluten-free but have cheese on everything, or use vegetable oil/soy flour in things. I would want a restaurant that was gluten-free (and probably MSG-free) AS WELL as having a soy-free and dairy-free menu. Obviously the whole place wouldn't be allergen...
  22. That would be the toughest part, for me! I'm a poor recent grad and I will eat the same thing for weeks, until it runs out, and then buy something else. It keeps produce and leftovers from going bad on me and therefore being wasted. Dried things like rice and beans are the staples of my diet. Idk if I could have the luxury of rotating food on such a regular...
  23. Can you start with a food you do normally eat, but know doesn't cause you problems? I want to do an elimination diet too--a strict one--but I want rice to be one of my foods I start with. I eat rice every day, almost with every meal, and I have good days and bad days, not only bad days like I did when I ate gluten every day. So I know my extra problems...
  24. As you can see in my signature, I was diagnosed with Celiac approx. six months ago, and self-diagnosed soy intolerance shortly afterward. So I am as completely off all traces of gluten and soy as far as possible atm. I also tend to avoid dairy and corn, but will imbibe from time to time. I still have symptoms. My main gluten symptom is acid reflux...
  25. I just take my pills at the table when the food arrives. I carry them in a little plastic medicine case with three compartments that I got when I ordered a small box of Digest Gold a long time ago. What is there to be embarrassed about? Everyone takes pills sometimes, and everyone will understand if you need to take some before you eat. If anybody doesn't...
