  1. I don't know if I am super sensitive or not, but I noticed today that all the checkout lines at the grocery store, even the self-checkout ones, are covered in gluten crumbs because the grocery sells fresh-baked bread. suffice to say I washed my jar of peanut butter and squash that I bought with soap and water when I got home. I also re-cleaned my cabinets...
  2. I met someone who wore a mask like that in church at a convent I visited. I am assuming it was because of an allergy to the incense. She was able to take it off later in the fellowship hall (in down a long corridor from the church). While she had it on it was reasonably easy to talk to her. As for mountain climbing, that kind of thing would be okay,...
  3. hello, fellow coeliacs. I am having a relapse of my gluten symptoms prior to diagnosis. I figured it was probably a comorbidity--salicylate intolerance, fructose malabsorption, etc.--but I've tried several diets for these things and nothing seems to be helping. Granted, I only stay on the diets for one or two weeks at a time, but I'm wondering if since...
  4. I work at LUSH in Dublin now, and I like their products (soaps, shampoos, lotions, bath stuff, etc) because they are handmade, most of them are vegan, and the ingredients are all very simple and clearly spelled out on the labels. They use mostly natural ingredients like essential oils (coconut, almond, peppermint, that kind of thing) as well, and it's nice...
  5. I did this recently when I had a slice of gluten-free bread with soup at a local restaurant. It tasted soooo good, and the texture was great. Probably because the main ingredient was butter... >_<; (this was before I had to give up casein) I did a double-take. but the menu clearly said "brown soda bread OR gluten free bread" and what I had was white...
  6. #1 What did your abdominal pain feel like and where was it primarily located, constant or intermittent? And what % has it improved, if at all after being gluten free, and time frame to get their?? - Never had abdominal pain as a symptom. Always pain was in the throat (reflux). sometimes gas pains if my gas was particularly bad. #2 Other symptoms related...
  7. My dad, whenever we're out at restaurants and he orders after my gluten-free order, will tell the server, "and give me all of her gluten" or "and plenty of gluten for me please" or something like that. But this is the same dad who carefully wraps my food on the grill in foil and remembers to use separate plates and forks to handle it and makes sure not a...
  8. I was originally getting my endoscopy for 24/7 GERD that was not responding to any medications. I had done the barium swallow prior which came back completely normal. During the endo the doc found a small hiatal hernia and inflammation in the small intestine, which he biopsied. After the biopsy came back with villi damage, he made me take the blood test and...
  9. ugh, I know. reflux is not gone, but it is a lot better. D is gone. new symptom: crazy bloating and burping gas. whyyyyy anyway, I went to buy a brand-new bag of red lentils since I've been enjoying them, but I looked in the bag and saw obvious CC with split peas and green lentils, and a grain I did not recognise that might be a strain of wheat. So...
  10. if this works at all, it is because your subconscious has already made a decision yea or nay. that doesn't mean that your subconscious is correct.
  11. digestive enzymes help to alleviate my reflux, especially after large meals. If tums don't work (they didn't work for me unless I took the max dose) you could try baking soda in water, which is a different kind of antacid. I found a brand of antacid with baking soda as the main ingredient that helped. It is also very beneficial to keep a food and symptoms...
  12. have these a lot. Usually in the dream I either induce vomiting or end up vomiting for a long time, even though vomiting hasn't ever been once of my symptoms (but reflux so bad I WISH I were vomiting, now that I've had). or I'll spit it out and scrape tongue... once I had a dream that I ate a lot of gluten and ended up unconscious/paralysed. That one was...
  13. That is only if there is one chalice. There is a part of the Mass where the priest symbolically breaks the host and drops a piece in the chalice. However, if there are a lot of parishioners and therefore more than one consecrated chalice so they may all partake under both species, the other chalices do not have this piece in them. They may, however, become...
  14. have you gotten the blood test? seeing the antibody numbers go down might have a similar feel-good effect as seeing the villi improving.
  15. When it comes to symbolic communions, bringing your own gluten-free bread should be fine, as long as you figure out the CC issue (e.g. you don't want it on the same tray with all the other gluteny communion bread). When it comes to literal communions, such as that in the Orthodox and Catholic churches, it is different. We believe that the bread and wine...
  16. ****TRIGGER ALERT**** Speaking as an ex-cutter who has permanent white scars covering her chest, upper arms, and entire ribcage--as well as old scars on her thighs and neck which are near-invisible now (thank God)--and also speaking as someone who used to bite her hands, throw her head against walls, and burn herself with hot wax because it didn't leave...
  17. noted. reflux back today, bad as ever. but the past two or three days were much improved. I introduced too much back into the diet at once, probably, and will simplify diet again pronto. with reflux, shouldn't it be that the last thing you ate is causing it? not something eaten the day before or before even that? my instinct is to say, "oh well I ate...
  18. here is an update to my situation. My mother recently sent me a care package as I'm overseas in Ireland atm, which contained lovely gluten-free goodies such as rice-and-onion crackers, rice-and-sesame crackers, root vegetable chips, and larabars. Since she sent it, I'm eating it. I've already eating a whole bag of the root vegetable chips, half the rice...
  19. I already don't eat gluten-free processed foods, if that's what you mean, except for rice milk and ground rice/millet porridge. I'm going wholefoods for the elimination diet thing anyway so that should rule things out? lentils should be ok, right? Dried beans? And I'll stay off the rice for the meantime.
  20. since a lot of us react to casein, that's what I thought it might be. Eating ice cream makes me feel drunk and gives me muscle aches later.
  21. Those of you who can trace certain symptoms straight back to gluten, let me know what is the difference between: - eating a whole biscuit or sandwich or something - accidental CC from a visible crumb - accidental CC from an invisible crumb (or picking up unseen gluten from a surface such as a cutting board, doorknob, whatever) - build-up of CC...
  22. and you're sure it's not the butter?
  23. what do you guys mean by "super sensitive"? Does this mean I am super sensitive to gluten and/or casein CC only, and my rice etc. may be contaminated? Or does this mean I am sensitive to absolutely everything...? is there a way to find this out without paying for doctors or blood tests? I can't afford these things until next year when I go back to the...
  24. I want this test!! but I can't afford it till next year...
  25. iirc Kelkin gluten-free porridge does not have oats in it. It's made from ground millet and rice. idk where to find it in the US though.
