ARCHIVED Fellow Soy Sensitives
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
ARGH I KNOW *fumefume* I am going to try some "shared facility" mixes (but NOT "shared equipment" or "may contain traces") and see if those are okay. I eat a few products already that I know share a facility with soy but don't have the warning label, and I don't have troubles. I will also see if there are any ethnic markets reasonably close to get flours... -
ARCHIVED Fellow Soy Sensitives
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
thanks! also, I am on a college-student budget! any more ideas? -
I recently discovered that I may be sensitive to very trace amounts of soy. This is after I had a reaction to almond butter that "may contain traces of soy." The only ingredient was almonds and palm oil and I have no trouble with those in any other food, so the traces of soy is the only other possibility. I also reacted to soy lecithin in something else....

ARCHIVED Soy Intolerance
Strawberry-Jam replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I *think* I may be soy intolerant. My most obvious symptom is a depression that comes out of absolutely nowhere. I get ANGRY or I despair for no reason. I want to hurt myself or inanimate objects. I used to feel like this every night--go to bed depressed, then wake up fine in the morning. After going gluten-free, that stopped, except for three major times... -
ARCHIVED Never Used To Crave Sweets Like This...
Strawberry-Jam replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Strange! I used to eat sweets CONSTANTLY and crave them always. Now I have a spoonful of peanut butter for "dessert" instead of a spoonful of sugary icing. I still keep butterscotch around and have it sometimes but no more cookies and ice cream every day. It's weird. although I noticed when I accidentally got soy'd I shotgunned like two packets of Skittles... -
ARCHIVED Fiber Supplement Friend Or Foe?
Strawberry-Jam replied to hazeleyez682's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you don't need more fiber in your diet, don't take it. :/ -
ARCHIVED The Good Of Being Gluten-Free
Strawberry-Jam replied to majones's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Often being gluten- and soy-free forces me to buy organic. For example, finding canned tuna without soy broth is impossible! Except the organic/sustainably-caught whatever stuff with low mercury-content and no preservatives except salt... Also organic or "natural" nut butters with no soy oil (although a lot are soy contaminated ). And yeah, it makes... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue And Weakness
Strawberry-Jam replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm wondering this myself... I still have a lot of fatigue and headaches but I have lots and lots of homework to do for school! It comes and goes with me, some mornings I feel fantastic and ready to take on the world, other times I just want to curl up and sleep forever... But what helps me is to pace myself, do a little bit of homework at a time, then... -
ARCHIVED 3Rd Time's The Charm?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
People keep telling me to give up corn, but I think that part of what I need is patience. The neurological issues are the last to clear up, so they say. My headaches and fatigue will take more than four weeks to dissappear (or one week if you count from my going off of soy). I don't eat corn every day either... Mostly rice etc. I'm off almost all processed... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Do This
Strawberry-Jam replied to NewbieMarch2011's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fibromyalgia can be a SYMPTOM of celiac. As well as a lot of other things. He's being really unreasonable. Maybe he is afraid you will try to make him gluten-free, too. But seriously, does he WANT you to be in pain? Sounds like you really need to stand up for yourself. If you are a confirmed celiac and you do not go gluten-free, you will in all likelihood... -
ARCHIVED 3Rd Time's The Charm?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've definitely linked the soy to out-of-the-blue depression, even traces... I can't think of anything else it could be. food diary to the rescue. but I'm still having waves of fatigue especially in the afternoon/evening and I'm still having headaches (some of which are tension headaches I know because my neck hurts too from bad posture recently, but not... -

ARCHIVED Have A Huge Headache Right Now - What Can I Take?
Strawberry-Jam replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tylenol is fine for the stomach as far as I know. Ibuprofen and aspirin are not. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Alot About Soaps/cleaning Stuff
Strawberry-Jam replied to Newtoitall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know! I have seen wheat listed in parentheses just like that on certain shampoos I was looking at (didn't get them of course!!). But perhaps in other things they are not "explained," as it were. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Alot About Soaps/cleaning Stuff
Strawberry-Jam replied to Newtoitall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I recently got an email from my nail polish company that might be helpful. Most of the ingredients actually list the offending ingredient in an obvious way so maybe that's why no one is forthcoming? COSMETIC INGREDIENTS THAT MAY CONTAIN GLUTEN* AMP-Isostearoyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein AMP-Isostearoyl Wheat/Corn/SoyAmino Acids Aspergillus/Saccharomyces... -
ARCHIVED Rice Krispies Going gluten-free!
Strawberry-Jam replied to Chopper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll have a friend check for me and maybe talk to the appropriate people. If I were a freshman or something I would fight for celiac-friendly caf. But I'm a senior living off campus and don't care enough to do it. But still if it's mislabeled that is bad. -
ARCHIVED Rice Krispies Going gluten-free!
Strawberry-Jam replied to Chopper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
huh. At my school they have rice crispies over with the chex with a huge "GLUTEN FREE" label on them. Should I tell someone they aren't gluten-free yet...? considering that's the only gluten-free options available in the caf... (I don't have a meal plan) -
So, had a random crying spell this morning, depression and fatigue and headache even though I felt really good when I woke up (slept 9 hours, woke up naturally). I want to punch through a window or just sob. No reason. School is going well and I'm getting the hang of this celiac thing. But I just want to cry and cry. Looked at the Maranatha almond butter...

ARCHIVED Soy?
Strawberry-Jam replied to adab8ca's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
so, if I have a reaction to soy, I guess that means I can never have tofu or miso soup again?? I understand that unfermented soy is BAD and I only ever had edamame if I had unfermented soy, in the past... no soymilk, no fake meat, etc. Well, I did have soy oil but still. Fermented soy is GOOD FOR YOU... they eat it all the time in Japan, it's one of the... -
ARCHIVED Soy?
Strawberry-Jam replied to adab8ca's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
try almondmilk! I drink almondmilk instead of soymilk and I like it a LOT better. (I am vegan for 50% of the year for religious reasons and I only used soy for a few months before I replaced it with the almond.) There's also rice milks, hemp milks (?? no idea about this one), and I saw hazelnut milk in the store too. But my personal recommendation is... -
ARCHIVED Soy?
Strawberry-Jam replied to adab8ca's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
soy makes me feel inexplicably depressed. boot out ALL soy and see what happens for ya. (including soy lecithin, soy oil, etc. you can experiment adding certain kinds back in later.) -
ARCHIVED So Sick; Please Help!
Strawberry-Jam replied to BamaGal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Definitely start keeping a food and symptoms diary, writing down exactly when and what you eat, and when and what you feel certain things beginning to happen. It could help you track down remaining food intolerances or allergies if you happen to have any. It could also help you figure out blood sugar or other kinds of problems you might be having. -
ARCHIVED I Found A Crouton At The Bottom Of My Salad
Strawberry-Jam replied to tictax707's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wouldn't make a stink--just call them up and explain what happened. Servers need to be educated so that they won't make mistakes like that, you know? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Alot About Soaps/cleaning Stuff
Strawberry-Jam replied to Newtoitall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am curious too!!! But I have seen people list "wheat germ oil" and "hydrolyzed wheat protein" as major offenders. Also anything with oats would be bad too because of CC. but yes please, can someone list other offending ingredients?! -
ARCHIVED I Found A Crouton At The Bottom Of My Salad
Strawberry-Jam replied to tictax707's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was just wondering... considering how bad you feel right now and how much it set you back... what did you do to the restaurant that gave you the salad what made you sick? Did you talk to them about it? Complain? Educate them about how serious they should take allergies and intolerances? Write a bad review for them on the internet? I feel like you ought...
