  1. Temperature is now 101.8. It's definitely not gluten. I have some kind of sickness, like the flu. dang my body hurts right now...
  2. update: boyfriend still swears up and down that it was made from rice. they told him in Amharic and not English like I thought so it's unlikely he misheard. There is a possibility they used some other flour as well, but I really don't know, and boyfriend says they didn't. There was other bread on the table too though. the CC risk is still considerable, but...
  3. I'll drop by a chemist and get a thermometer on my way home today. I only ever have had this sensitive skin when I have a fever of 99 + (my normal temp is around 97). if I do not have a fever, then it must be gluten. if I do have a fever, then it could be either way.
  4. yeah, me too. I used to get fever-sick at LEAST twice a year, if not more. I also had a chronic winter cough. After celiac, no more fevers, no more sicknesses. Until now. I was sick with a sinus infection about a month ago, which I did not attribute to gluten, as it was pretty clear that it was some bug I caught, prolly from a coworker. One of these...
  5. true enough. GERD is a huge gluten symptom for me and I'm curious why it's missing and then I remember that I'm not really eating anything right now... just liquids today, very little yesterday. I keep seeing people say that gluten makes them feel like they have the flu. I don't know what my gluten symptoms are because I strongly suspect I have a delayed...
  6. I can't help but think it's gluten though, since one of my main gluten/casein symptoms is horrible headaches and muscle aches?
  7. Okay, here's the scoop. On Sunday I was at a church potluck with my boyfriend and he brought me some injera with veggies on top. He swore up and down that the injera (Ethiopian flatbread) was made from teff only, which is gluten-free. It looked like teff and the girl who made it was there, so I believe it. However, it was sitting with all the other injera...
  8. I second the recommendation for Genius bread. I had some this week and I couldn't stop eating sandwiches, it was so good. I'm not really a bread person anymore, but dang if someone gave me that and said it was gluten free I'd've said they were lying through their teeth. I would also suggest trying to make your own bread. Just experiment with recipes till...
  9. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and treated for GERD, in the midst of which I was diagnosed celiac. PPIs never helped me, and while I still struggle with acid reflux, taking probiotics and supplementing my stomach acid has vastly improved my condition.
  10. I just have a lot of African friends here who are not American at all, so when I read that I was like, wut? but I know you didn't mean anything
  11. haha when you were talking about not being the nail that sticks up I guessed maybe you were talking about Japanese culture. I lived in Japan for 6 years so I kinda know what you're on about. ^^
  12. restaurant cards are no good because his English is pretty fluent, so he understands that amount of info already. I wanted something more scientific that explains the causes and effects of celiac in a way that shows how it is purely biological. idk. translation sites on the internet are crap. as someone who studied japanese for 5 years, you can use it...
  13. I don't expect anyone here to be able to help me, but I thought I would ask. I'm dating an Ethiopian boy at the moment and he doesn't quite "get" ceoliac disease. He accepts that bread, beer, dairy, and soya makes me sick, and he knows I won't kiss him if he has beer or bread so he'll get something else. However he seems to think that it's something...
  14. you mean European, Hispanic, or African? Or European-, Hispanic-, or African-American?
  15. To be honest, the desire to have sex with drunk girls--girls who often cannot give real, true, consent--is not good. Even if you're drunk as well, how can you know that she's giving you real consent if her judgement is impaired? Are you comfortable with the possibility of hooking up with someone who, in her right mind, would never say yes? (hint: YOU SHOULDN...
  16. hello GAPS enthusiasts. I bought the book, read it, and believed it, then tried to start the diet on Monday. I'm still eating things here and there that aren't GAPS legal because I need to finish my food that I have and not waste it. Nevertheless, I started out grand, making a stock from some joint and marrow bones, a heart and a tongue, then cutting...
  17. most protein powders are soya or whey, but I have a huge bottle of hemp protein powder in me house, and I've seen pea protein powder for sale as well. So there's plenty of options out there, in that regard. good for muscle repair as well.
  18. peanut butter is a really good, calorie-dense food, as well as all nut butters. When I need to keep weight on, I eat LOTS of peanut butter, sunflower seed butter, and cashew nut butter. As well as handfuls of mixed nuts. Another good food is avocado. And you don't like bacon with breakfast? Full-fat bacon is good; fry eggs in the bacon grease too. Or if...
  19. haha I can totally relate to your paranoia. but as long as you wash them well, you'll be fine.
  20. yeah I don't eat gluten foods made on shared lines. but I have a face moisturiser that I use which contains no gluten ingredients but it is made in a factory and on equipment that handles oat milk and wheatgerm oil. However it's from LUSH so the products are handmade, not factory made. However, I know that people with peanut allergies have had problems with...
  21. Children should NOT go hungry. They are growing. A little overweight is much better than a little underweight. Err on the side of health, err on the side of extra muscle and fat for growing bodies. Please intervene in whatever way you find suitable. These children need to eat.
  22. I think you mean boor. A self-centred BOOR. and boy, aren't there a lot of those around during the holidays? I'm newly diagnosed (ish) and it took about three months + of intensely simple dieting (no herbs, no spices, etc) and living on my own before I got to the point where I can make Christmas dinner for myself and ONE friend that is gluten- dairy...
  23. I made lamb roast too! with sea salt, rosemary, thyme, marjoram, basil, and oregano. I also made mashed potatoes (with rice milk and olive oil) and roast carrots and parsnips in the lamb drippings. And gluten-free christmas pudding but DAMN it's sweet....! and can't add cream to it to cut the sweet since no dairy but still, wonderful first gluten-free...
