ARCHIVED I Think I'm Missing Something....
Strawberry-Jam replied to upwitht21's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
sorry, how long have you been gluten free? it took 3-6 months before certain symptoms of mine resolved. I experienced a new symptom--bloating and gas--which was new, but went away in time. healing is so confusing. -
ARCHIVED Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies
Strawberry-Jam replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
PB is easy to find! other kinds of nut butters are too expensive tho, except maybe sunflower seed butter that I found in one shop in the city centre. there's plenty of gluten-free stuff but I haven't found any chocolate that's dairy AND soya free. not that I'm looking. haha I don't even have food scales, I just get like 500 grams of sugar, and I'm like... -
ARCHIVED Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies
Strawberry-Jam replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I can't do dairy or soya so it's near impossible to find chocolate chips I can have... and even then, I'm not a huge chocolate fan anyhow. but that would be what, like 100 or 150 g of choc chips? -

could you take it with a meal at a restaurant you sortakinda trust but don't trust 100%? would that be beneficial? I ask 'cause in a few years I wanna bike across america which will involve eating out of groceries mostly, but at some points you'll have to stop for food at restaurants that you're not completely sure of (I'll have glutenoid cycling partners...

ARCHIVED Need Help Settling A Gluten Disagreement
Strawberry-Jam replied to sariesue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Screw gluten. I wouldn't pay for it. Buying gluteny things just props up the system that keeps us down, yo! if they don't like your gluten-free rolls, they can deal. they can load up on stuffing or whatever else they want to put in their faces. I think it's cruel to have to bring food you can't eat to an event, boughtten or not. -
I was eyeing a huge, 1 litre camping thermos in the outdoors store today (I went in to buy a base layer to go under my trousers since I had a bicycle crash and ripped a hole in my other ones). The thing was epic, had two lids that became two separate cups, and looked like it'd keep food warm/cold for forever. But it cost, like, 20 or 30 quid, so I told...

bought a leg of lamb for Christmas dinner and the butcher gave me some soup stock bones (beef, plus the joint off the lamb leg) for free ~ To do this diet without expensive equipment I was thinking of just getting a mortar and pestle (to grind nuts for homemade nut butters) and a thermos for taking my lunch to work in the early stages of the diet. yesh...

ARCHIVED Lettuce For Lunch At Hospital Event.
Strawberry-Jam replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
it's the opposite here... the most allergy friendly restaurant I found in Dublin is a veggie, mostly vegan place with tonnes of coeliac options and staff knowledgeable about the ingredients in the food. they make really creative dishes, rotate their menu regularly... they use a lot of soya, but I can always find several options that work for my gluten-, dairy... -
ARCHIVED Cookie Contest Winner - Gluten Free
Strawberry-Jam replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
you can make your own almond paste with ground up almonds and oil. I use coconut oil, mix it with ground almonds, and eat it on buckwheat crackers or rice cakes -
ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
day or weekend trips on a bicycle. A week-long trip to northern ireland and the holy sites in may or so. also I want to do a trip around the perimeter of ireland by bike, two or three weeks in august. -
ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know that *at first* in the introduction diet you're eating very little as far as variety goes. I meant once you get to the full diet. Since buckwheat isn't actually a grain but a pseudocereal I was hoping it would be allowed. like, soup does not travel well, aside from thermoses and even then you can't carry too much at once due to weight. There... -
ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
does buckwheat count as a grain? Because I make a buckwheat flatbread from scratch with buckwheat, water, and salt, sometimes an egg, and that also travels really well in a pinch and I can put nut or seed butters on it. It's also pretty cheap because one kilo bag of flour is about five euro and makes TONNES of flatbread whereas buckwheat or chestnut crackers... -
ARCHIVED Red Meat And Grease
Strawberry-Jam replied to krystynycole's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
is your D pale, floaty (hard to flush), and greasy or foamy/frothy? might mean that you're having trouble digesting the fat that's in it. I have the same problem right now if I overdose on grease or fatty nuts like cashews, peanuts... -
ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
sigh... been eating too much rice lately (too lazy to cook anything else at the moment) and having an attack of gas & reflux, so I went and bought this book lightly used out of my savings for thirty bucks. I just signed a contract which increased my pay considerably over the next five months so, whatevs. Christmas present for myself or something. I... -
ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut

ARCHIVED Can't... Stop... Sleeping...
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think it's hilarious that this thread was updated the day after I fell asleep at six pm and woke up at six am... but! I'm now gluten, dairy, and soya free, and keeping hydrated, and I don't have this problem really anymore. I slept 12 hours last night because I cycled 40+ km over the weekend and went on a 2 hr hike to boot. but on normal days I get by without... -
Since I am intolerant of gluten, dairy, and soya, I cannot eat at chili's. There is not a single menu item that appears on all three "free from" menus. I appreciate their allergy-friendly menus, but they are not an allergy friendly restaurant, imho.

ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
er, is there any way I could get the book used or something? yeah... I'm pretty poor... -
hey there, peoples. My stomach is feeling better of late but I thought that I should go ahead and go on the GAPS diet for a little while to heal up my digestive system for good, ya know? Definitely need to do the intro diet. I was going to eat up the foods that I have around the house now till they're gone, then go out and get some meat and a thermos...

ARCHIVED The Hair Is Gone Now, But I Dont Have To Shave My Legs!
Strawberry-Jam replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Three Month Bicycle Trip
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
yeah, I know I'll need more calories. I was thinking of living off nut butters for when I don't have access to a microwave/fire... rotating sunflower seed, cashew, and almond butter when available, and settling for peanut butter in places not "advanced" enough to have anything else. It would go on gluten-free bread or rice cakes with jam or preserves. I... -
ARCHIVED Three Month Bicycle Trip
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OMG YESSS I'll do a "Jam visits all the Celiac people" trip, hahaha I wouldn't do a bike tour + van etc because I'm too hardcore for that. *looks down nose at people* No, seriously, I wouldn't feel like I'd accomplished what I'd set out to accomplish, if someone else were hauling my stuff for me. I have this thing about self-sufficiency. and hating... -
hey there, y'all. I have this personality trait where I'll have an idea and then get obsessive over it for a while before settling down again. now I am in an obsessive phase. my obsession is CYCLING ACROSS AMERICA! W00T! Just note that I don't plan on doing this until 2014 or 2015, and since that's a long ways away, the plan is likely to change several...
