ARCHIVED Only Gluten-Free In The House Is Me, And They Don't Care
Strawberry-Jam replied to hpfan2016's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My health went super downhill in my last year of college due to undiagnosed celiac. I wasn't diagnosed until february of my senior year. During my junior and senior year, I napped almost every day, half-assed an unfortunate number of classes and assignments, started giving up on my social life... I was an English major which is my strength and that made it... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Symptoms After First Time Eating Gluten Free Breads?
Strawberry-Jam replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can you tolerate gluten-free oats? Bob's Red Mill stuff, all of it, is CC'd with gluten-free oats. Which sucks for that percentage of celiacs who react to the oats themselves. -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent About My Symptoms
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
yeah, it can be found here: Open Original Shared Link however, that account is just where I put all my fanart, commissions, or gift art, with only a few original characters here and there. Comics I keep to myself since I may want to publish them someday. -

If he's not celiac, why does he have problems with wheat in America? -

replaced the vit D with a new one that is specifically soya-free (as well as gluten-, wheat-, milk-, etc. free) -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent About My Symptoms
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, I draw cartoons and comics. Nothing special. I was making gift-art for people over the weekend--as in, people who can't draw were requesting that I draw their fictional characters for them, that kind of thing. -
ARCHIVED Going To The Cinema
Strawberry-Jam replied to dani nero's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ah, I missed the "zero" part up there. I myself don't do fake sugars because I cannot stand the taste (splenda and saccharin are the worst, but aspertame sucks too). I wouldn't think such a chemical concoction would be good for an elimination diet, but hey if you don't get symptoms, good on you. you didn't mention if you're off ALL sugar, such as the sugar... -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent About My Symptoms
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here's some more venting... on Saturday I was feeling great, had lots of energy, went out to the park, did some climbing and cycling and picture-taking. Cleaned my flat. exercised. did some gluten-free baking. then on Sunday I ate food as usual, nothing special, slept in, did some art during the day, stayed in. Was surprised by a sudden onslaught of watery... -

If you can't do corn, soda is a bad idea due to high fructose corn syrup and regular corn syrup. -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Bad For Everyone?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Seifer's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Considering there was celiac or something like it in Ancient Rome, there's gotta be something else going on at the same time. Altho I would imagine that massively altering food is not the best thing to do. -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Bad For Everyone?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Seifer's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wish gluten were bad for everyone. Then it wouldn't be shoved in my face on such a regular basis. However, Open Original Shared Link. And there's been plenty of "wasting" sicknesses over the centuries which were unexplained, and could easily have been celiac or lupus or any number of modern autoimmune diseases. Personally I see gluten as a poison... -
ARCHIVED Question For Those In Europe
Strawberry-Jam replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
that's silly. gluten is gluten and no one who is intolerant can eat it here in Europe or anywhere else (I live in Ireland). however, some "gluten-free" products here will contain somethingsomething codex wheat starch, which is supposedly processed to the point of being gluten free. I don't personally touch it. -
ARCHIVED Not Tolerating "low Gluten" Host
Strawberry-Jam replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I recently decided not to take communion anymore because the bishop told my priest he couldn't concecrate the chalice without putting a little bit of the host in it because of "tradition". I'm Eastern Orthodox and we don't usually consecrate multiple chalices. Celiac disease is largely unheard of in the E.O. community at large so they don't know how to deal... -
ARCHIVED Friends Purposely Glutening Me!

ARCHIVED Friends Purposely Glutening Me!
Strawberry-Jam replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to make a confession. If I were you, after hearing all that from them, I would have taken a piece of cake. I'd have taken it and smushed it in one of their faces and walked off. But don't be like me. The last thing you want to do is sink to their level. Keep your food safe, your friends close, and treat these people as what they are: your enemies... -
ARCHIVED Old Habits Are Hard To Break
Strawberry-Jam replied to Cortneysmibro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
being so picky that you ONLY eat gluten is... a sign of gluten-intolerance. yeah. paraodoxically, such an addiction to gluten shows that it's probably a problem. I have really bad gut flora myself, and low stomach acid. I find myself craving sugar and starches most days. Sugar and starches is what feeds the bad bacteria and lets them grow stronger.... -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent About My Symptoms
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
sorry y'all. I don't live in the US. The icing had no soya ingredients; just vegetable oil which in Europe means rapeseed oil. If the icing was full of soya or soya oil, I'd've killed myself after eating a whole tin. It also said "may contain milk ingredients" which I THINK means it may be cross-contaminated, since the listed ingredients weren't milk... -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent About My Symptoms
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
8 months ago my iron was low, vit D low, and b12 high. I supplement vit D and iron as well as magnesium, zinc, and folic acid. and cod liver oil and probiotics as well. -
Sorry, I have to vent about something here. I NEVER know when I've been glutened, or by what. I just feel really great one week, then really crappy the next. My symptoms "sneak up" on me by being really light and ignorable at first, then being really intolerable, and they seem to be delayed and also last for weeks at a time. I've been gluten-free and...

ARCHIVED Peptide Based Immunotherapy
Strawberry-Jam replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't expect much sympathy or advice if you go off and willingly gluten yourself, after announcing to us that you would don't expect me to be relieved you didn't get sick, either. I just woke up from a nightmare that my family fed me something "gluten-free" then admitted to breading it with wheat breadcrumbs just 'cause. In the dream I cursed them... -
idk if it causes them or not, but I would imagine that even if it doesn't cause them it can irritate them and make them worse once you already have them...

I recently had a huge collection of canker sores in my mouth caused by a serious flu. They were on the bottom of my tongue and around my molars in the back of my mouth, rendering me unable to chew or talk properly. I found that changing to an SLS-free toothpaste and treating them every night and morning with acidophilus helped them heal quickly. Just bought...

ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It's not that bad. I can tolerate avocados just fine, and meat broth if the fat that floats to the top is strained off. I can also handle a certain amount of fatty nuts before I start to get D from it. If I take the digestive enzymes and ox bile, my tolerance of fat increases. As for willpower, I have plenty before the package is opened--I can save... -

ARCHIVED GAPS Diet For The Poor?
Strawberry-Jam replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I did feel better for the week I was doing GAPS except that I don't tolerate fats well so the excess fats caused problems. should be solved by taking ox bile and enzymes, however. reading teh gaps book, I am totally the typical GAPS patient. I really should do the diet because I know it should help me. I am, however, incorrigible. I just made a huge...
