ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Have Glutening Symptoms After Only 3 Weeks On The Gfd?
Strawberry-Jam replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm on the diet 4 weeks now and I think I've had gluten'd symptoms. I've definitely had symptoms from having soy twice in a row. (I will test it again tho in the future just to make sure.) but it is a bit muddy because you're still healing on top of everything else so there's no way to know, you know? it's probably a combination of everything. just wait... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do All Day?
Strawberry-Jam replied to superfob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
my go-to chore when I want to be productive but don't have brain function for homework is to wash dishes. I'll also clean the kitchen or my room sometimes. otherwise I nap a lot and do homework or other brain-intensive things in really short spurts, interspersed with facebook/internet or TV. It is good to try and be productive as much as possible, especially... -
I don't have any stomach pains at all, so I don't think that would be a problem. I also wasn't on Nexium very long... maybe only a few months, and I didn't take it every day either because I would forget or just be like, whatever. In fact, the only stomach pains I ever have are associated very strongly with gas. My acid reflux plain is primarily in the...

ARCHIVED Did I Screw Up With Thai Food?
Strawberry-Jam replied to color-me-confused's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Fried rice is fried with soy sauce. All commercial soy sauces are made with wheat, except for specialty ones that are soy only. It is highly unlikely that any restaurant would use soy-only sauce unless it was advertised as such. Ergo, you glutened yourself with the soy sauce. -
ARCHIVED Do You Feel More Weepy When Glutened?
Strawberry-Jam replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes! One day after having a bite of bread on accident I was weepy and depressed for the rest of the day and the next. (although some of that might have been pure anxiety since I knew what happened). I also get really weepy and depressed when I have soy so to me gluten and soy seem related. -
About bananas--really? I read that bananas were a natural antacid. I always seem to feel a little better after having bananas and almonds, or a larabar with either of those ingredients in it. And I have melatonin around here somewhere... seems to be gluten- and soy-free. I'll start taking it at night and see if it helps. I think it's too early to try...

Thanks! It's always that patience thing, isn't it... It's good to know that I can have citrus, tomatoes, spicy foods etc. again after my throat heals. I'm not a caffeine or chocolate person thankfully and I'm getting used to having no mint around. I also take no drugs except tylenol for period cramps once a month. (I was on amitriptelyne (sp?) for...

ARCHIVED I Can't Do This
Strawberry-Jam replied to NewbieMarch2011's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I want to second the suggestion that you eat plenty of fish, if you can, also shellfish, shrimp, and other seafood, if you have no allergies. I too am disgusted at factory farming. (It is not so bad for fish--usually wild-caught but even farmed, I mean, they're fish, they don't really suffer per se, and even if they did mussels etc. don't.) Due to my religion... -
Hello everyone. My major symptom that led to my celiac diagnosis was constant acid reflux. I have been on the gluten-free diet for four weeks now, and have definitely noticed improvement with my reflux, but it has not gone completely away. I was wondering if anyone had advice for my particular situation. I used to have reflux every day, that responded...

ARCHIVED Glutened And Frightened
Strawberry-Jam replied to revenant's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That sounds a lot like a psychotic break I once had after taking Ambien on an empty stomach. I couldn't see through my hallucinations, I looked in the mirror and I had three heads, nothing made sense, I kept poking my mama who was trying to help asking if she was really there because I couldn't see her and could barely feel her... Scary to think that gluten... -
Thanks!

ARCHIVED Why Am I So Hungry?
Strawberry-Jam replied to arabookworm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Fish and seafood is also a good source of protein and good fats (which also helps satiate). I eat canned salmon, sardines, and tuna alla time. -
ARCHIVED Why Am I So Hungry?
Strawberry-Jam replied to arabookworm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's because you're actually digesting now! So it's moving through you and being absorbed and your body can actually use it and wants more. Eat as often as you need to and listen to your body. -
ARCHIVED Depression And Celiac
Strawberry-Jam replied to Lucydesi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
judging from the comments here, it seems that I may have a sensitivity to soy as well (but not corn). ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH After eating cookies made with soybean oil I was hit with a depression that came out of NOWHERE. I wanted to cut myself it was so bad. I thought it was gluten contamination from old ingredients from my pre-celiac days, but...... -
I've been having to write a lot of poetry exercises for a class I am in, and I thought you guys might appreciate some of the ones I have written about celiac. I was recently diagnosed so it was on my mind a lot. cheat with glee voraciously bring thing for devouring never calling to mind intestine incarnadined (the test warned you but you never...

ARCHIVED Birth Control Pill Affected By Gluten Free Diet?
Strawberry-Jam replied to nschicago11's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
haha, yeah. Natural family planning does have a very high success rate, though, but only if you follow the prescriptions to the letter. I'm not talking about the calendar method, btw. It's about fertility mapping (using body temperature, mucus consistency, etc) and only well, you know, during your nonfertile days. -
ARCHIVED Birth Control Pill Affected By Gluten Free Diet?
Strawberry-Jam replied to nschicago11's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are other forms of birth control out there if the pill is not working for ya. IUD for instance. Or, if you're an all-natural kind of person like me (ha, I'm a virgin tho, what do I know) there is natural family planning. Takes some self-control tho. I never liked the idea of the birth control pill... messing around with hormones... no one knows what... -
ARCHIVED Confusion About Levels Of Sensitivity...
Strawberry-Jam replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
personally I would keep using them til they're gone, making sure nothing gets in your mouth and wash your hands a lot... but when time comes to replace, try and find cheap gluten-free brands to use. Or at the very least "no gluten ingredients" kind of thing. I understand the budget thing too... college student here. I feel terrible having thrown out/given... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Top 10 Gluten Free Staples ?

ARCHIVED Depression And Celiac
Strawberry-Jam replied to Lucydesi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm new to gluten-free but I think that depression is one of my symptoms as well. Sometimes I will just randomly feel the urge to bang my head against walls because my emotions aren't making sense anymore. I also struggled heavily with cutting a few years ago due to sleep deprivation and depression. I was just wondering, is it only gluten that gives this... -
is there a way to test the soy without a total elimination diet? Or, how long do I need to give it up before testing it again? I've been having soy this whole time but I WAS getting better...

I made myself some gluten-free cookies yesterday, my first gluten-free baking experience! And they turned out lovely--rich and chewy... but most likely CC'd. I put in a gluten-free flour mix (rice flour and guar gum basically), brown sugar, almond milk, sliced almonds, almond extract, vanilla, baking soda, salt, almond meal, ground flax, and vegetable...

ARCHIVED Accidentally Ate Gluten, What Can I Do?
Strawberry-Jam replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
inducing vomiting will make things worse. It'll really damage your esophagus and your teeth as well. And it won't prevent the reaction either... -
ARCHIVED Hearing Voices?
Strawberry-Jam replied to katco's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
considering that I "woke up" at 3:30 AM last night with my shirt off in the bathroom, looking for bugs on my chest, I want to reiterate the possibilty of hypnagogia being involved in this somehow. My chest itched at night, and in my half-asleep state I thought I had fleas and got up into the bathroom to look for them before I "woke up." I also see and... -
ARCHIVED We Had A Luncheon At Work Today...
Strawberry-Jam replied to Jenn624's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
congrats! I went to my first potluck today where I brought my own food... pumpkin soup with leeks, ginger, and garlic, MMM. A few people asked about it but everyone was really understanding when I talked about my need to be gluten-free, and there were several folks who knew what celiac is. There were a few things I prolly could have eaten there...
