My D level was somewhere in the low teens a few months back. However, I believe that my last check up was in the high 20's. My memory is poor - I need to keep better track of this info. Plus, I live in Wisconsin - not much sun to begin with. And, it's been overcast & rainy for the past 8 days.

Thank you - you make good sense. I'm paying a YMCA membership that I haven't used in months because I've always had an "I don't feel good" excuse. I know you're right though. I do recall learning that strength training helps build bone mass. Thanks for your thoughts. I'll get some pineapple today. I'll walk today & plan to head to the gym tomorrow...

Thank you - I have a couple heating pads that I can wrap myself up in! I'll give it a go. By the way, was it nerve pain or bone pain? Mine feels like it's way down deep inside my bones.

Sorry to hear you get that pain also. This morning it hurts so bad that I feel like wrapping my ribcage in an Ace bandage... I do have vitamin deficiencies but I take supplements. Maybe it's not enough. Good luck with your GI!

Hi, I am low on vitamins D and B. I currently take 4000 IU of D3 and a B12 supplement daily.

Hello, Last night I was awake 4 times due to deep bone pain in my hands & forearms. The pain comes & goes. It doesn't last more than a minute, but it really hurts. It's strange - sometimes it's in my palms & sometimes on the top outer aspect of the hands. This all started yesterday afternoon. This morning the bone pain is still present...

Wow, I did not know that! Thank you so much! I've been sitting here salivating over the delicious smells! Yea! Now my roomie doesn't have to eat it all.

ARCHIVED Gluten And Lotions, Hair Products, Etc
pondy replied to sleer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use Desert Essence Organics Gluten Free shampoo & conditioner - it always manages to run into my mouth in the shower - so better safe than sorry. I use that same brand of lip balm, sunscreen & face lotion also. I don't have confirmed DH, but I used to constantly break out in a mild red rash. All my life, I was told I just had "sensitive" skin... -
ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
pondy replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
1/2 a sweet potato, Jone's brand Canadian bacon, coffee, coffee, and more coffee! -
Hi everyone, I made chili with "Ol' Hired Hand Six Gun Chili Mixins"... the bag claims "gluten free" but I'm worried about CC. Anyone ever use this brand? All the ingredients look safe (just spices), but I heard that sometimes wheat is used in stone ground masa flour (another ingredient). I've searched the Web - can't find any info! Thanks!

Hello and welcome, Schatz - Let me start by saying that it's great that you're here. I've found so much wisdom and support on this forum. You're definitely not alone. *Hug* The sadness, the anger, the "not being able to function"... I totally get it. I've been there. In fact, I still feel sad and angry sometimes - mainly because I'm 6 months gluten...

ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency--Poll
pondy replied to PainfulSpaghetti's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just had mine re-tested last week. Doctor said it's up to "40" - 40 what I don't know. All I know is that 6 months ago it was something like a 15. I take 2000 IU per day. -
Okay, here goes... At the risk of sounding naive I must ask: Is it possible to wash/rinse gluten off of certain food? Lets say I have some nuts or dried fruit that was manufactured on suspect equipment... if I rinse them really well, could I remove the gluten molecules? I actually just tried this (maybe in vain) with a package of Sunsweet Pitted...

ARCHIVED Constipation & Abdominal Pain/cramps
pondy replied to pondy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I never thought of having my thyroid function tested - Great, great idea!! Thanks very much 'burdee'!! My doc only found the celiac by accident - totally misdiagnosed me for a couple months prior to my endoscopy. I'm switching providers in December - hopefully then I find someone who has a clue. Anyway, I just walked 2 miles & ate a few prunes... -
Abdominal Cramping Post Ct Scan With Barium
pondy replied to pondy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the responses! I'm drinking tons of water, but not passing stool since yesterday afternoons D episode. I took the Berry Smoothie Redi-Cat 2. Yeah, maybe it wasn't gluten free. Whomever I spoke to in the Imaging scheduling department did tell me "of course it's gluten free" - now that I think about it, she probably had no clue. I'll wait... -
Here's a couple questions for those out there who've had the "pleasure" of having a CT Scan with Barium Sulfate & the Iodine Sol. IV... Because I'm prone to severe C, I did about 1/2 of a mild enema when I got home. My colon moves slowly, to say the least. No way I wanted a toxic heavy metal (the Barium) just sitting in there... So, I had a bout...

ARCHIVED Constipation & Abdominal Pain/cramps
pondy replied to pondy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks all! I've been this way (constipated) for longer than I can remember - but during the past 2 weeks or so I've been extra crampy & backed up. It's embarrassing, not to mention painful. I suppose the coffee I just drank isn't helping any.... I've tried to cut down my caffeine intake - just can't do it. I do love chamomile tea though -... -
ARCHIVED Equate Nicotine Lozenges
pondy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hello, Does anyone know if Wal Mart's nicotine lozenges are gluten free? Thanks! -
I gather that most celiacs have the "big d" as a primary symptom of glutening - as opposed to constipation. I'm looking for others like me who are dealing with painful, incomplete "evacuations". What helps? Things I've tried include MiraLax, tons of water, pears, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts. I'm also taking 2 vitamin supplements - D and B12....

Hi, I ate Udi's Gluten-free oats a couple months ago. Now I stick to Chex or Nature's Path (no oats anymore). I had just a splash of milk in my coffee this morning - still sick! I'm sure you're right about quitting dairy totally - along with the sugar. I'll try. I'm sick of being sick. Thanks!
-
NewsyNanette, Thanks so much! I will check those websites out tonight. It's strange you mentioned the rashes - I'm having those too, mostly on my forearms. I should probably dish out the extra money for gluten free lotion, hair products, etc... You mentioned pet food - I never really thought about that. I have 2 cats & I'm always in contact...
-
Help please... I've been sick for almost 2 weeks - headache everyday, bone pain (around ribs), burning pain right below the ribs, constipation, brain fog, anxiety, and skin pain & sensitivity. I don't get it. I've was doing fairly well since going gluten free near the end of February. I cannot figure out what's making me so ill. I would like...

Welcome jltcmom & samie! This forum has helped me more times than I can remember in my 4 months gluten free. Tons of wisdom and support here!!

ARCHIVED Reflections Of 3 Months Gluten-Free
pondy replied to Katrala's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Katrala, I'm with you on the whole popcorn & chocolate thing! I agree that "making your own" is cheaper, plus far superior to so much of the processed junk out there. Example - my first month diagnosed I had no clue. I ate Amy's Kitchen meals daily ($6 plus where I live). Then I learned to read, read & re-read labels & they're processed... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Anxiety
pondy replied to nik95670's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm finding a major increase in anxiety though. I'm SO terrified that I'm just all of a sudden going to be sick again like before I went Gluten-Free. I don't know how to explain it but I feel like I SHOULD feel more confident eating, going out to social events, etc. but I think it just hasn't been long enough & I don't have the confidence. I'm still scares...
