  1. West Bend (formerly Milwaukee) here! I can't believe my little town has 2 cafes with gluten free menu items One is called Grasshopper (excellent pancakes) & the other is Cafe Sourette (sp?) - haven't been there yet, but the chef reports to have mostly gluten free dishes. There was a write up about her place in the Milw. Journal/Sentinel...

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

Oh can I relate to this brain fog business! My co-workers & family noticed that I was rather "spacey". I had times where I would just blank out - not thinking, not moving. At work I would get lost in whatever task I was doing - like I'd forget why I was going into a room or what I was supposed to do. It happened all the time. Scary because...
  3. did you take a picture of my cat? he/she looks just like my beanie. LOL!

  4. Pondy, have you had a bone density test done? your ribcage pain could be sign of bone loss or the fact that your small intestine are still swollen?
  5. Hi everyone, Does anyone know how long it takes for our intestinal villi to regain the ability to absorb nutrients again? The other day my G.I told me that he's sure my villi are all "standing upright" again. This was simply an office visit - the G.I didn't scope me again or order new blood work. He said he believes this because I've been gluten...

    ARCHIVED Allergist?

Hi Dube, I'm seeing an allergist/immunologist this week. My primary doctor recommended him because I get bothersome (sometimes scary) reactions to foods & other things - can't seem to figure out which foods, etc... Fortunately, the allergist is covered by my insurance. Even if he wasn't though, I'd still go. Personally, a bad allergic...
  7. Many thanks to everyone here for your replies! I saw my G.I - he told me to use the MiraLax 3 times per day (just as someone here suggested ). I'm happy to say that I'm finally getting back to normal! Don't know if it's the fruit & veggies, the tons of water, or the MiraLax, but somehow things are beginning to move... All Best,...
  8. Thank you everyone for all of your ideas! It's going on six days now... no movement. Tomorrow I see my G.I so I will ask about the Magnesium. I'm already taking MiraLax - no results yet. A doctor told me that the large intestines experience "shock" after a colonoscopy, and that it is not all that uncommon to have no bowel movement for a time afterward...
  9. Hi! Personally, I break out in bad skin rashes when I use wheat/gluten hair and body products. The reactions are actually more than just rashes - they include tightness in my chest & a slight feeling of my throat closing - scary stuff. I was a big time user of Aveda products. No more! They are definitely not gluten/wheat free! I switched to...
  10. Thanks for the advice!
  11. Hi Everyone, I'm suffering from chronic constipation and I'm wondering if anyone here has found any effective remedies. Yesterday I had 10 (yes, 10) tap water enemas at the hospital prior to my colonoscopy. This was after having taken the full course of colon prep the day before! I had no idea I was that plugged up. Everything turned out looking...

  13. I use some products by Ecco Bella. The Flowercolor Natural Mascara has these ingredients: Purified water, carnauba wax, palmitic acid (from palm oil), clay, methylparaben, propylparaben and iron oxides I'm pretty sure that the first three ingredients are safe - don't know about the rest. I love EB's concealers - they work great. Check out Lucky...
  14. I have a D deficiency also. My doctor has me taking 2,000 IU of D3 daily. I use the brand Spring Valley - they're gluten, wheat, lactose free. I haven't noticed any improvements in my bone, joint or muscle pain yet - but it's only been about 4 days that I've been taking them.
  15. Thank you for your responses! I ama former smoker - it's been about 10 years since I quit. I don't really ingest much soy - if any at all. If I do eat Lara bars or cookies, they're gluten, wheat, soy & dairy free. Other than that, I eat mostly whole foods. I use rice milk in coffee & on cereal. I started taking multivitamins right after...
  16. Hi Everyone, I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy on Wednesday. For about 2 weeks I've had red blood marbled in my stool. However, for the past two days, my stool has been black & really constipated. At first I thought "internal hemorrhoid"? but now I'm downright scared. Can anyone relate? Could black stool be from Iron in my multivitamin...
  17. Hi aerean, It's great that you are so proactive & prepared! I could learn from you. I've been planning meals about a week in advance. I couldn't do a month in advance because I've been trying to use lots of fresh & therefore perishable foods. Plus, I don't have the freezer space to store the fresh stuff. Sounds to me like you're doing...
  18. I just came from the grocery store - gluten free broth in hand. The brands are Pacific Natural Foods (beef broth) & Imagine (organic, free range chicken broth). Haven't tried them yet, but both labels say "gluten free". Good luck!
  19. Hi Terri O! If you don't mind my asking, where are you from? From what I've read here, there are some good, gluten free conscious places to eat in Madison. I'm about 45 minutes from there, but I love that town & really want to check out a restaurant or two - I'd be up for a little road trip Anyway, welcome to "this part of the forum...
  20. Thank you for sharing this! I live close to Milwaukee & will check it out. I love to cook (and eat ) so this is great news!
  21. Hi & thanks for responding! I would love to check out the "cake" event. Here's hoping that samples will be provided I'm not on or into Facebook so would you be able to let me know the time & name of the bookstore? Secret handshake - that's cute Yeah, we'll have to work one out. I haven't been to Costco - think you have...
  22. Snickers are gluten free? Whoa, Happy Days!!! You just made my week!
  23. I tried a 1/2 hour power nap the other day for my brain fog - it helped. I have also followed the advice of some of the wise folks here who said to take a walk outside and increase my water intake. Best, Pondy
  24. Hi everyone! Just wanted to share a great meal idea... Greek Chicken. Natural chicken breast - cut small, simmered in safflower & olive oil.
