I just started writing a new gluten free recipe blog, not specific to this site. Am I allowed to put the web address for my blog in my profile or my signature? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Problem Making Almond Flour
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the tip! I just put my almonds in the freezer. I also tried again this morning with less nuts and only blending it up for seven seconds. Seemed to work a little better. I'll keep working on it -
ARCHIVED Microgestin Birth Control
WinterSong replied to elless's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
GFreeGirly05 - I directly called the manufacturers of Minastrin. They said very specifically that the inactive pills contain gluten but that the active pills do not. Who told you that Minastrin has gluten in it? Was this recently? -
ARCHIVED Problem Making Almond Flour
WinterSong posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Anyone here make their own almond flour? I have a high speed Blendtec blender and just tried making my own almond flour for the first time. I used about 8 oz of almonds and put them in the smaller blender jar on a low setting for a few seconds. I opened the top to find a texture that was kind of crumbly and was somewhere between almond flour and almond... -
ARCHIVED Microgestin Birth Control
WinterSong replied to elless's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to take Loestrin24FE. That was gluten free according to the manufacturers. I do not know about the other versions of Loestrin. That birth control isn't being made anymore. Instead, I use Minastrin24FE, which is basically the same thing. According to the manufacturers who I checked with on two separate occasions, the active pills ARE gluten free... -

ARCHIVED Can Someone Reccommend On A Gluten-Free Vacation In Europe ?
WinterSong replied to yairzo1's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
There was an article in the NY Times recently about how wonderful Italy is for gluten free travelers. Italy would be my pick! -
ARCHIVED Chilling Experience Reminds Me To By Hyper Vigilante!
WinterSong replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Sorry to hear about your experience. I wouldn't go back. I've been to plenty of restaurants where the server assures me as she hands me each dish that everything is gluten free. Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury of being served by careless people. ....on second though, I would go back. Not to eat, but instead to calmly speak with the chef and describe... -

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper and spread chickpeas across in a single layer. Cook for 30-40 minutes... -
ARCHIVED Chanel?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you all for your thoughts! I have a few of the products already from my pre-diagnosis days. If I were buying new things I would pick a brand that promotes itself as gluten free, but since I have them I think I'm going to go ahead and use my Chanel products. -
ARCHIVED Chanel?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The thing is with this topic is that I asked Chanel specifically about lipstick and lip liners - products that would go on the lips, some of which would naturally be consumed as you lick your lips, eat, ect. I've used products from other companies who have said that the products themselves are gluten free, but for legal reasons they have to give the warning... -
Hi everyone! I emailed Chanel to get their latest update regarding gluten free products. I specifically asked about their lip liners, lipsticks, glosses, and a foundation product (the name is mentioned in her response). It seems to be okay with the standard blanket statement of possible cross contamination. What do you guys think? Safe to use? Chanel's...

ARCHIVED Any Recent Updates On The Blue Cheese Debate?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Contributing to my own thread. This is from National Foundation for Celiac Awareness. I would still love to know anyone else's opinion from this forum on whether or not you eat it. Please help put my mind at ease Thanks! Question: Is brie gluten-free? From, David Answer: Hi David. Thanks for your question! In regards to cheeses, the question... -
ARCHIVED Any Recent Updates On The Blue Cheese Debate?
WinterSong posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I only just heard about the debate on whether or not blue cheese is safe (urg no matter how long we're on this diet new things keep cropping up!). I heard about the Canadian Celiac Association study finding no detectable amount of gluten in any of the blue cheese samples they tested. I've been using Trader Joe's blue cheese, and I'm a little nervous... -
I hate being hot, too. I never have a good hair day in the summer, haha. Every studio is different, hot yoga or not. Some places the teachers will correct you, other places the teachers will be doing the entire class with you. Some places tell you not to stretch too far, other places push you pass your body's normal limit. I have heard of horrible hot...

I'm a yoga teacher. Happy to give you my opinion! If you have sensitive knees I'd say look for a thicker yoga mat, but honestly the ones you find at Target are just fine and they're easy to carry around. I have two of them. I'll second the idea of getting an unlimited pass at a studio. It's important to try out different teachers because everyone...

ARCHIVED Best Blender/food Processor?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Guys, my new blender is amazing! So far I've made pumpkin seed butter, chocolate-coconut butter, broccoli soup, prune extract, and I'm still going! I does take longer than they say to make nut butters, but the special jar for nut butters that came with my Blendtec is so worth it. I just want to spend an entire day blending things, lol. This morning I... -
ARCHIVED Best/safest Gluten Free Restaurants In Nyc?
WinterSong replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
No way! I didn't know that Friedman's Lunch has another location. It looks like they opened up pretty recently. I would second that recommendation -
ARCHIVED Best/safest Gluten Free Restaurants In Nyc?
WinterSong replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hey there! This is my area of expertise! I personally think that good food is worth making a trip for, so if I were you I would go to Bistango (Italian) for dinner. There are two locations - one in Murray Hill and a second one just opened on the Upper East Side. Enjoy the yummy gluten-free bread and save room for dessert! Pala is another place that... -
ARCHIVED Best Blender/food Processor?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the advice, everyone! I am excited to say that I have ordered my very own Blendtec, and it is now on its way to my home. Costco had a really great deal on it, and it comes with a special container specifically for making nut butters. It is an investment, but I've done the math. I was going to place and order with my favorite health food company... -
ARCHIVED Best Blender/food Processor?
WinterSong posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi everyone! I recently tried making my own coconut butter by putting shredded coconut in my blender. The first time it came out amazing! The second time it was a complete disaster - the motor got too hot, leaking black stuff on my counter top; it took much longer to blend the coconut, and when it was done it had a burnt taste to it and an off color ...
