  1. I'm going to reiterate what everyone else is saying - you have NO IDEA - repeat - NO IDEA if you have Celiac Disease unless you get tested. A friend of mine who is diagnosed has no symptoms except for joint pain. In my personal opinion, EVERYONE should at least have a gene test to see if they are at risk.
  2. I feel like I read an article about this at some point, but I wanted to ask: I know that the gluten-free diet can help relieve feelings of depression in people who have Celiac Disease, but how about people who are diagnosed with depression who do not have Celiac? Can going gluten-free help? Is there any research to back up this idea?
  3. My tradition: -Almond butter cookie cut outs with red/green sprinkles -Almond/dried cherry cookies with sugar glaze -"Already been chewed gingerbread men" - The cookie molds I use are missing an arm, leg or head. I hand paint them using toothpicks and colored frosting to have "oh no!" or angry faces on them. They are always a hit! What...
  4. Thanks for the link! Love free ebooks!
  5. Even if this product contained gluten, it doesn't matter what my reactions are like because you would react in a completely different way than I would - everyone reacts in a different way. But for the record, I get massive bloating, stomach aches, and twisting/cramping motions in my stomach among other things. But I really don't think I've ever reacted...
  6. I use their almond butter. I don't think I've ever had a reaction to it, although I suspect that my reaction times are not immediate, which makes it difficult to tell if I'm reacting to something. In general, though no problem. I get the raw unsalted almond butter.
  7. I am not, but it has been discussed on several other threads. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/104950-did-anyone-see-fridays-ellen-show/ I think it's a great idea.
  8. GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was just at the store to pick up more Ghiradelli cocoa powder, and the company has these new 8 oz pouches rather than the old container with a lid. This is the 100% unsweetened cocoa premium baking cocoa. On the back it says "May contain tree nuts, WHEAT, soy, dairy and egg" Where did this wheat come from?!?!?!
  9. Thanks for all the responses! Good news! I know what I'll be doing tonight when I get home : D
  10. There was an old post on this. Apparently, the squares are made on the same line as one square that has barley malt in it. However, the company cleans the machines and throws away the first two batches. So....do you think it's safe? I won't be heartbroken if it's not, but if it is I have a gift in my kitchen that will find its way into my stomach very...
  11. Hi and welcome to the board! There is a percentage of Celiacs who do not experience any symptoms at all. Some of these people will notice small things after going gluten free like their nails grow stronger or their hair seems healthier. However, it is important to realize that while you may not experience any outward symptoms, internally your body...
  12. I'm really confused as to how this works. How on earth can it identify the chemical makeup of foods by being pointed at it? I doubt it would be any good for detecting trace amounts of gluten and CC.
  13. So you want to buy a bunch of stuff for dinner tomorrow and then test it to see if it's gluten free? What would you do if none of the things you bought were gluten free? Honestly, I would not trust ANYTHING pre-made from a regular grocery store. You can buy test strips, but they are decently expensive and it would take a while to ship them to you. ...
  14. I just double checked this info by calling back (wanted to make sure I got it all straight, and I did). Her disclaimer also said that there is the possibility of CC, but she said that it was a fairly small possibility. The same goes for Loestrin24FE. I think I'm going to go for it. After all, it's the same as what I'm currently taking, right?
  15. Update! I called the makers of Loestrin24Fe. They also are the ones making Minastrin24Fe. The customer care woman was wonderful and helped clear up a few things. She said that all of the ingredients in the active pills are exactly the same as Loestrin. There is one ingredient in the nonactive/reminder pills that is derived from wheat. So if I skip the reminder...
  16. Just to clarify, you were not following the gluten free diet if you were eating that much gluten during those two weeks. You were basically "gluten-lite" - but it's good that you were feeling better! A nod in the right direction. It may be that you were eating enough gluten to get tested without realizing it. What did you eat that had traces of gluten? Anything...
  17. An update from my trip to the bar - my boyfriend said that sometimes they do not have cider, so we're assuming that they change the taps. I could have probably gotten a bottle of their cider if I knew it was safe, but the bar was packed when we got there. Not the best time to ask someone about ingredients. So I decided to just not drink that night. No big...
  18. No I haven't because I'm sexually active and want to be on birth control anyway. The idea of an IUD makes me uncomfortable with the information I've been given so I want to stick with the pill.
  19. Do bars ever change which spouts are for whatever drinks? Again, I know nothing about bars. Also are all ciders gluten free? I heard a rumor that some have barley malt?? :-/
  20. I'm going to a bar this weekend where there is cider on tap. Do you think this is safe? I know that cider is naturally gluten free. The only other thing that this bar serves is beer. Could there be CC for cider on tap? I know nothing about bars and normally order wine but there will sadly not be any there....
  21. Actually, if I remember correctly, a side affect of an IUD IS an ovarian cyst.
  22. No, thank you so much for answering! I really do appreciate your ideas.
  23. This is the one I looked into. It's called Minastrin. I had been taking Loestrin because it is on the gluten free drug list website. I called the Minastrin company and they said there might be gluten in it. Weird! Basically the same thing, but I guess something changed in the processing? Maybe because it's chewable? I'll try looking around for a generic...
  24. Unfortunately those aren't options for me. I had ovarian cysts a few years ago and the pill helps to prevent them from coming back
