  1. It sounds like you have several symptoms of Celiac Disease. But I tell people that you never can know if you have Celiac unless you get the test done. Definitely ask your doctor about it. It's also important for you to know that it is NOT in your head. Normal people don't suffer in this way. Everyone on the board is very supportive and will be happy...
  2. I love all of the donation ideas! We are agreed, no sharing plastic. Is there a definite answer out there for ceramic? Side note, even though it's been three years, I've decided to change out my old plastic measuring cups/spoons. Even if they were never heated and had few scratches, I figure why not? $7 for stainless steal and peace of mind
  3. Thanks for replying. I myself had gotten all new plastic everything except for my measuring cups and measuring spoons, which are now only used for gluten-free. I think I figured that they were ok because they were never heated or had scratches on them. I wonder if I should have replaced them.... Thoughts? I actually went to a sponsored event recently where...
  4. Someone asked me recently about shared cooking utensils, and I feel like I've heard conflicting information lately about these materials in particular. Let's set the record straight? Are plastic utensils okay to use for both gluten-containing foods and gluten-free foods if they are washed in between uses? How about Tupperware? I know scratched Tupperware...
  5. I just read an article that states it is surprisingly accurate for testing trace amounts of gluten. I have no idea how this type of technology works, but if this is true, I am quite excited about it!
  6. Besides the insurance issue..... I'm fortunate enough to have a solid diagnosis. I've heard a lot of gluten sensitive people on this board say that they would get too sick doing the gluten challenge and for them it wasn't worth it. They just treat it as seriously as a Celiac would. My mom is also one of those people. Some people feel like they can...
  7. I'm lucky enough to live in NYC, so I have lot of options. There is a 100% gluten-free restaurant and another dedicated bakery within 5 minutes (walking) from my boyfriend's apartment. That being said, I will travel an hour on the subways for good food or to get to the restaurant that I'm craving.
  8. Nuts. com is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I buy coconut flakes, coconut flour, dried prunes, and cocoa powder from them, too. Package normally comes in two days. LOOOOOOOVE that website!
  9. There are also some great recipes floating around this forum, and some of us have our own blogs. What's nice about using the board as a resource is that you know people have taste tested the recipes and can give tips or answer questions. It is a great community we have
  10. I've talked about my experience on this board before. My boyfriend at the time of my diagnosis was terrible. He refused to believe that I was sick, didn't want Celiac Disease to exist, didn't care if I got glutened because of his behavior, and threw a fit if I ever tried to have a discussion about my needs. Even with issues not regarding Celiac, it was...
  11. I'm rarely tempted and have never purposefully cheated. I'm afraid that I would be out of commission for days and would be unable to work. I hate feeling sick. It's just not worth it. Plus, I eat the most amazing homemade gluten free foods and have great restaurants all over my city. I'm one happy girl
  12. Are we allowed to post links onto other sites? Just in case we cannot, I just bought a sample pack of Teatulia's teas from amazon. Less than $6 total for three containers - green, white, and black tea. Full price is normally $9/container. Worth trying!
  13. The Stop and Shop brand was on sale for 49 cents per can.....and I just bought 30. I called my mother because I knew she would get a kick out of my shopping adventure. "You have a studio apartment! Where are you going to put all of those!" she asked, to which I replied, "Anywhere I can! They were 49 cents!" Still waiting to hear from Goya....
  14. No word yet from Goya, but Stop and Shop has just told me that their chick peas are gluten free and made in a facility without wheat. Stop and Shop, here I come!
  15. Agreed, continue eating gluten until the endoscopy is done (if you go down that path).
  16. I was at the NJ Gluten and Allergen Free Expo last weekend and spoke with a nutritional representative from Goya. I was surprised to hear that they only have a handful of products that are gluten free. I think only two or three of their canned bean variations were on their gluten-free list. She told me that they are going through a gluten-free certification...
  17. Congrats!! I love getting new kitchen gadgets
  18. I love Good Earth. I also recently discovered Teatulia. Their white tea was so good. More expensive than what I currently have, but I may splurge a bit for my birthday
  19. When you get the test results, ask for a copy and (if you are comfortable) let us know which tests they were. If he didn't run a full Celiac panel, you have every right to tell him that you want to have the proper tests done. It is a very stressful time when you are trying to get a diagnosis, so cut yourself some slack and remind yourself that it's okay...
  20. Hope all is okay with you
  21. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the casein content in birth control pills. Could you look into an IUD instead? For me, I need to take the pill to prevent ovarian cysts, otherwise I'd be looking into other alternatives.
  22. "1,000 Gluten Free Recipes" was my first book and still is my favorite. But there are also many great online resources. I rarely buy cookbooks anymore. I'm dying to try out that Paleo book! Hope you like it!
  23. Haha there are never any extras! And thank you for the link. Always want to make sure I play by the rules
