  1. Loestrin 24 Fe has been discontinued. I called the manufacturers of the new version that loestrin is recommending, and they have ingredients in their product that are derived from wheat. No good. My doctor is supposed to be calling me on Tuesday to talk about other options, but I'm running out of time on my current pack and want to gather information. ...
  2. I was very disappointed, too. I asked people in the store who had no idea what they were talking about. I wrote to them, as well, and probably got the same response that you did. I've reacted to their brown rice wraps, tomato soup, and nuts (possibly quinoa, too). For now, I'm sticking with their naturally gluten free foods, but I'm VERY interested in seeing...
  3. Thank you for the info on those companies. I'll give them a call. Also, companies do not need "to take every measure possible" to clean their lines of allergens. I've heard of many that do not clean their lines at all. That's why it's important to ask. Just don't want any new people to get confused. That being said, I did contact Blue Diamond because...
  4. It could be the quinoa, but a lot of Trader Joe's products are made on shared lines/facilities and they have the "g" label on the shelf. I think I reacted to their tomato soup a few weeks ago. It was on their gluten-free list and didn't say anything on the container about allergen warnings. The only things that I use from Trader Joe's these days: Agave...
  5. Hi Jason, Actually, I've been gluten free for two and a half years, so I know about reading labels. This specific product I found said something to the extent of "Produced on the same equipment as peanuts, other tree nuts, and soy". It said nothing about wheat, so some would think that it is "safe". However, when I called the company they told me...
  6. Really - has anyone found a brand of nuts that are safe? I've reacted to Trader Joe's in the past. There was one brand that I bought at the grocery store, and it's label listed off other allergens. Just to be safe, I called the company and they said that it is not gluten free. Then why wasn't it listed with the other allergens?!?!?! I need 1/2 cup almonds...
  7. My original test was over 500, which was my lab's limit. Within three months I dropped to the 53-ish (I don't remember the exact number off the top of my head). After that, it was a very slow decent to the normal range. My doctor (who was shocked by my initial drop) said that it's normal for the numbers to slow down as it gets closer to the acceptable range...
  8. I'm not sure about the muscle aches and joint snapping, but the rest are ALL symptoms of Celiac! Most of which are my symptoms, in fact. I had really bad acid reflux that presented itself as awful burping. I was also bloated all the time and very tired. A few more things: A lot of Celiacs get both C and D. Malnutrition can cause a lot of problems including...
  9. I'm the type of person who expresses myself more so in sadness compared to anger. That being said, I was very sad when I was diagnosed. I cried a lot the first week. It was a lot to go through because I was so sick right before my diagnosis and felt like I was in mourning over a big part of my life. I didn't recognize that it was a blessing in disguise...
  10. Stay away. No question.
  11. If the banquet is being held at a restaurant again you can call the restaurant and ask for something to be set aside for you. I always carry one or several of these things with me: gluten-free crackers, kind bar/think thin crunch bar/bakery on main bar/simply bar, nuts, gluten-free granola, fruit, bag of sugar snap peas. I'm constantly on the go, so I...
  12. I can't find my recipe at the moment, but I have a normal waffle maker. You don't need any sort of special one.
  13. I LOOOOVVVVVVEEEE them! So yummy! Head's up - they are made on the same equipment as wheat occasionally. But I am fine with them and here is why. I love the company's honesty and willingness to make safe products: We know how important being gluten-free is to many people. One of the plants that makes our chips occasionally produces products that...
  14. Scratch my last sentence. I have been having a small reaction to something lately but can't figure out what. I was hoping that it's not another intolerance, but since I use a little bit of pepper every day I'm hoping that switching to a trusted brand will solve my problems for me.
  15. I'm seriously loving this thread! Keep the good stories coming! I definitely believe that people who love and care about someone else will put their own wants aside for that someone else's needs, and will do so with grace and kindness.
  16. Haha I'll let you know when he pops the question, although I may beat him to it - "Wanna make gluten free pizza bagels tonight?" "MARRY ME" lol
  17. Urg. I had recently bought a large container of black pepper from a lesser-known company, Galeo. I called them, and they told me that they don't add flour into their pepper but it is made on the same line as other products that contain gluten. HOW ON EARTH IS THERE GLUTEN IN PEPPER!!! I don't think I've been reacting to it, but better safe than sorry...
  18. There's a really wonderful thread on here called "Ridiculous Conversations". This is my attempt at the opposite - a thread for people who surprise us and GET IT. When this happens, I swear I'm so surprised that I want to jump up and down. I feel like this kind of thread could also serve as a reference to significant others, friends and family members...
  19. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but most single spices are gluten free naturally, are they not? I've mostly worried about season mixes up until this cinnamon thing.
  20. By "self glutenized" you mean eating gluten again to prepare yourself for a Celiac panel, right? It's called a gluten challenge. When is your Celiac panel scheduled for? Because you will need to be eating gluten for several weeks/months in order to hope to get an accurate test reading. More info here (from the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center...
  21. McCormick always lists very clearly if their spices contain gluten. I go with them for most season mixes. I did contact La Flor recently about their cinnamon, and they assured me that it's gluten free. I had heard that some companies were adding flour to their cinnamon to prevent caking and cheapen production costs, and I was like
  22. Agreed! Take a few deep breaths. It may seem like a lot to handle all at once, but have faith that things will get better Welcome to the board!
  23. I was very thin when I was diagnosed, and one of the girls who I worked with was on the heavier side. She knew that I had Celiac and that's why I was so skinny, but one day I overheard her saying, "I wish I had her genes." I'm sure she had totally forgotten about the Celiac factor, but still I thought in my head, "Umm....I'm going to pretend she meant...
  24. Definitely check out the University of Chicago's page. My understanding is that false positives are rare, but it is definitely something to look into because you're still experiencing symptoms, and the other possibilities are serious. Your biopsy and test results will most likely come back as negative. If you get a gene test done, you can see if you...
  25. Hi, So sorry to hear that you and your daughter are struggling through the diagnosis process. Ditto to everything in the post above. She needs to continue to eat gluten until she finishes her tests. If you do decide to have another biopsy, you could also consider having a gene test done. I've recently learned that doctors can skip the biopsy if...
