  1. My skin cleared up gluten-free. Been back on the gluten since june 1st....I now have cradle cap type stuff, but in patches. Itches like crazy all over my scalp. Of course the dandruff too that goes with that. I had no such problems a month ago. I had this problem but on a lesser scale previous to going gluten-free. My nose is flaky and itchy, but oily...
  2. I agree with what speedy says. Also be prepared to feel a little worse in the first week or two. When I initially ditched gluten I felt a bit like a wild animal.
  3. My doctor told me two weeks would be enough, after a year of being gluten free (or at the very least gluten light since I wasn't very aware of CC) My bloods came back neg. On the uk coeliac charity site, they recommend one gluten containing meal every day for six weeks so it seems that ideas on this varies greatly (as if all of this wasn't confusing...
  4. Aren't people just darlings? I've had this too, and thanks to this kind of thing can now add lack of confidence to the list. The good news is for me at least, off the gluten these symptoms disappeared for me. The weight was starting to come off and I was getting to the point where I wanted to exercise because I felt able to. Good luck and hope you...
  5. I don't know that it makes a blind bit of difference, but after an accidental glutening I try to eat fairly bland, but nutritious foods, and water......lots of water. For some reason glutening makes me really thirsty. It normally takes a couple of weeks for me to feel relatively normal again after an accident, but I guess this is really a 'how long is...
  6. I had to call my sister the other day. She has lived at her home now for 8 years or so. Numbers never used to be a problem to me. I was like a walking telephone directory and could recall telephone numbers/mobile numbers easily. I had to get the telephone directory out to find the number, then realised I couldn't remember her surname either
  7. For me, it is inability to focus and retain information. My kids could tell me which friends they were going to, and five minutes later I would have to ask them again. Sometimes, I have no recollection of people telling me things that they swear they told me. It's walking down the garden to the freezer, and forgetting what on earth it was I wanted from...
  8. Hey jenny I couldn't afford to ditch kitchen items either. A compromise that worked well for me was getting rid of the wooden things. They absolutely must go. It's impossible to get those gluten free. Pans etc were cleaned out thoroughly with alchohol. Doesn't need to be the pricey stuff, but I heard that alchohol will get rid of the gluten traces and...
  9. From a non Gluten viewpoint, are you drinking plenty of water? Alchohol is really dehydrating and I know if I have too much I tend to get cystitis like symptoms. If I take a pint of water before sleeping, not so much of a problem, although i tend to drink water like it's going out of fashion the morning after anyway because I get so thirsty. It would...
  10. Hmm wow - this is a toughie. What you are experiencing I get sometimes before a period. I have no advice regarding the pill since I was only on it a short time and couldn't tolerate it at all. I CAN tell you though about my second child. I had what you describe almost to a T, except I was actually vomitting......all tests (including blood tests) came back...
  11. For what it's worth Meg, I suspect I am unbearable too. I guess when you feel so ill, it's hard to think of anything else, and it's hard to walk around happy and smiling when you are in constant pain and worried about what on earth is wrong with you. It is hard. Good luck with the gluten free diet, and I really really hope that you feel better soon. ...
  12. I first went gluten free march of last year. I had a bout of shingles, at the same time as the death of my grandmother, who I was very close to. Needless to say I felt really bad - the doctor told me it was a postviral response and would pass on its own eventually. I felt sooo rubbish (was unable to walk back from the bathroom one night, I was so weak) that...
  13. Thanks Meg my reasons for wanting diagnosis - the family thing. I have four children, and though they have zero health problems or reason for me to suspect they may have gluten related problems, I could perhaps get them tested if there were a reason to do so (that reason being me having tested positive for coeliacs) Also, I have had severe mental...
  14. I have an appointment with gastro specialist on 1st of july. i started eating gluten again on 1st june. I would guess I am looking at at least another month before any tests are performed, since the appointment with specialist is just an initial appointment. so in the last 16 days, I have developed bad breath, an itchy patch on my chest, extreme tiredness...
  15. Hey I was horrible mentally for quite a while after coming off the gluten - suicidal even at points. You also have coming off the anti depressants to contend with. Not sure how long you were on them but in my own experience it takes quite a while for your body to return to normal again. I came off mine veeeery slowly since I was on them for a long...
  16. Hey Sorry to hear you are having such trouble. Off the top of my head I would suggest root vegetable soups/stews, meat added or not. Chilli, using canned tomatoes rather than fresh. Curries, again using canned/frozen What is the status on frozen vegetables in Germany? Frozen peppers work well in cooking, but not so well in salads (I really...
  17. Hey I'm from yorkshire in the UK. Tesco have a decent free from section. Also, Heinz were very helpful and sent me out a list of all of their products that are gluten free (under other labels too), so may be worth giving them a call. You may want to check your hair/skin products for gluten too. I was still having problems, and found that...
  18. If you feel better, yes avoid it. Anything that makes you feel better is good for sure I had a negative blood test too, currently still under the doctor trying to figure out what the problem is, but I do know that despite the negative bloods, gluten still makes me feel terrible.
  19. Hey Ciavyn I use no premade mixes at all. I prefer to use dried beans in favour of the canned variety...in fact we consume very little in the way of processed foods as a family I guess. The big thing in our house is bread. I haven't found a way to make nice gluten free bread yet at all. My attempts turn out like housebricks I have four...
  20. Have you tried cutting the caffeine out? That seems to really mess with my energy levels. When I first gave up caffeine I had a banging headache for days, it wasn't pleasant, but I did feel better without it in the long run. Now I can tolerate a little but feel it if I had to much. I get jumpy then my energy levels crash later.
  21. I am in the same position as you at the moment, except I'm the mum and will not be moving out I've been reading like a loon these last few days looking for ways around the problem with cc. It is so huuuge that it's mind boggling. Do your family use the same computer? I've introduced a new rule that nobody eats near the computer, and when they...
  22. Hello I can't comment on the fibro, but the depression I do know something about. I have had depression for all of my adult life, in varying degrees. Some of those degrees so severe that it required hospitalisation. The meds, hefty doses, helped only little. Gluten free diet? Almost normal. I cope much better with life in general, and...
  23. Maybe call the doctor for a bit of reassurance/explanation? I had stomach problems for quite a while after doing the gluten challenge, and they are just starting to clear up now. It seems from your post your gluten free diet is a new thing.....is it possible that maybe you got glutened from something you ate/prepared food with? From everything...
  24. I too have found the reaction much more severe if I take gluten. I ate the stuff for two weeks to try and get diagnosed and felt like I was dying. It made the symptoms that made me cut it out in the first place look mild in comparison, and brought up new ones besides.
  25. I have had both the mirena and the copper coil. I had to have the copper coil removed because I just bled constantly on it, it really didn't agree with me at all. The nurse said that was really uncommon, although it can cause heavier periods. I had no pain after initial cramping with both types of coil. That cramping was gone within a couple of...
