  1. It would be good to know which tests you had done. Especially the one that gives a range of <4, because you are AT 4. That might be meaningful, depending on which test it is. If gluten is making you ill, that is a huge answer for you. You may be in the early stages of celiac, and not suffering damage yet. False negatives are common, somewhere...
  2. The Deamidated Gliadin is actually pretty accurate. There is an older version of the test for gliadin antibodies, that is the one that's not so specific. I think a positive DGP means celiac. Also...the term "positive gluten intolerance" is sometimes used interchangeably with "celiac". Though you apparently didn't have the villous atrophy, you...
  3. I just found the cider section of a new market that opened near us. I never knew there were so many different ones! Up until now I've only found Hornsby's. I picked up a bottle of Angry Orchard yesterday (the ginger one), haven't opened it yet. What can I expect?
  4. You certainly have your hands full! And as you are getting later into your pregnancy you probably don't have a lot of energy to spare for dealing with all this stuff. My heart goes out to you. It really saps your strength to be fighting with dumb doctors and trying to do their job for them. I've had to do that more than a few times. Your son has...
  5. I only have a handfull of gluten free books. I usually just scout the internet. What specific kinds of food are you looking for? For a lot of meals, it is easy to convert the favorites you might already have. Are there other ingredients you are trying to avoid? (Such as dairy, nuts, eggs) Ingredients you don't like? A lot of baking books are...
  6. Yes, that is true, but I didn't want to bring up health care politics unless the discussion took place in "anything but celiac", LOL.
  7. Ahh, I see! Wondering now if you could modify a diet like SCD for your situation. When my daughter-in-law started it, she did not follow the prescribed timing, she just jumped right to the "legal-illegal" list, and started eating the foods that were legal. Since your son doesn't have Crohn's, he wouldn't need to follow the timetable. But eating the...
  8. LOL. As the old saying goes, "even a broken clock is right twice a day". I am very happy for you! Hope all goes well.
  9. Welcome. From an economic standpoint, it doesn't make sense to do any more testing. You have positive bloodwork; you have celiac. But, since you are determined to go through with it, your best bet is to load up as intensely as possible to try generating enough damage to insure the outcome you seek.
  10. You might try cutting back on the coconut milk. Maybe two tablespoons per cup of almond flour. Or, leave it out altogether, then you won't need extra eggs. You probably do need more eggs, or, as the other poster mentioned, a little flax gelled in water. The rough ratio would be an egg for every quarter cup of almond flour. (1 cup flour, 4 eggs)....
  11. Have you looked into the GAPS or Specific Carbohydrate Diet? The SCD was developed for people with Crohn's, IBS, other digestive disorders. It might help while you work with your new doc to get things sorted out. Another poster mentioned probiotics, I would second the recommendation if you are not already doing them. I think Culturelle makes a good...
  12. Can you get Green's (Open Original Shared Link) or St. Peter's? They have become my favorites though I don't buy them often because they are more expensive than others (about $6.99 USD for a 500 mL bottle). Green's has everything from dark ("Dubbel Dark Ale") amber to "Tripel Blonde". New Grist, it is VERY pale and very light on taste. On the other...
  13. 1) Yes. My symptoms were so vague and non-specific they would not have pointed directly to a gluten problem. No acute reactions. 2) Not really. I loved bread and floury things, all kinds. Was working on learning to make all kinds of bread at home...artisan sourdoughs especially. I did limit it only because I found my weight easier to manage without...
  14. Thank you so much! These look really yummy. Yes, even the Yogurt Pie! I can't wait to try them. You always have such great ideas! We used to have a restaurant owned by a Greek family in the town where I grew up. Their avgolemono soup was to DIE for! When they retired we cried.
  15. I just harvested a bunch of leaves from my very assertive grapevine and would love to try cooking with them. My husband gave a bunch to a Middle-Eastern co-worker a couple of years ago and I have it on good authority that my leaves make very good eating, but the guy never told us how he fixed them! I'd love some ideas please! Yeah, I know, I could...
  16. I really want to see People Like Us. I am so far liking pretty much everything I've seen with Chris Fine...errr... Pine.
  17. If you are planning to seek testing, you must be eating gluten. Even a short time (a couple of weeks) gluten free can skew your blood tests. It's already too easy to get false negatives, you don't want to sabotage yourself! Of course, the gluten-free trial can tell you a lot too. You may find you don't want to do testing if the diet has awesome...
  18. The basic rundown... Paleo is a diet based on anything "wild caught-wild harvested". Grass-fed meats (NOT feed-lotted, corn-fed), fresh fish/poultry, fresh fruits and vegetables, some nuts and seeds, NO processed/refined foods (no canned or boxed stuff), no dairy though some cheat and use cream/butter. Gluten free is simply anything that doesn't...
  19. Yes, the 30 mg of Thyroid is roughly equivalent to 50 mcg synthetic. You probably are a little underdosed. I second what Skylark said. Your doc must stop adjusting doses by TSH. Natural thyroid very quickly lowers the TSH and a lot of doctors think you are hyper when you are NOT. They need to do your Free T3 and Free T4 in order to manage doses well...
  20. Try the Open Original Shared Link? I think you're looking for something called Celiacsure?
  21. With hypoparathyroidism, there could be some other things out of whack. Do you have normal calcium levels? Usually Hypoparathyroid presents with low calcium, but it is possible to have high or normal calcium and have symptoms related to parathyroid dysfunction. Is there a cause for your low parathyroid? You might ask them to test for a lot of nutritional...
  22. I'm in love. Your rheumatologist is a dream. You might want to give it a little more than a couple of months. Some people have a longer recovery time than others. And if they are doing more testing, DO NOT stop eating gluten. Yes, your symptoms COULD be celiac related. Also, have you had a good thyroid check? TSH, Free T4, Free T3? I get a lot...
  23. If you are well, why rock the boat? There are lots of reasons to pursue a diagnosis, and lots of reasons not to, it's kind of a personal choice. But you have to ask yourself if it's really worth it to make your sick for months in order to get a doctor's seal of approval. The goal is good health. Do you feel like you have that?
  24. Fatty liver is a definite companion to celiac disease. Keep tabs of your liver enzymes. I'll bet you see them dropping if you continue gluten-free. There is research out there to support...you can search at pubmed, here's one article for you... "Open Original Shared Link".
  25. With thyroid, you need to make all your changes slowly. It is very easy to "miss the mark" if you change doses too quickly because especially with the T4 part, it takes weeks for the levels to stabilize. The general recommendation is to NOT change meds sooner than 5 or 6 weeks after a previous dose change. As for the T3, if you have the patience and...
