  1. Omissions is one of the beers made from low-protein barley, then "de-glutenized". They say they test every batch to below 20 ppm but some super-sensitive celiacs have reported (example Open Original Shared Link) reacting to it. I'd approach that one with caution.
  2. It is definitely a major life-change! I hope that soon you will be able to feel well enough to say "it's worth it!" We have several variations of this saying at my house, but my family and I like to remind each other that "nothing tastes as good as being pain-free feels!"
  3. Well, I'm sorry you're in the club, but I'm very glad you have a good answer and the members here are wonderful. Hopefully you will find great improvement in how you feel over the next few months. Not everyone feels great instantly, so have patience.
  4. Maybe an ice cream cake decorated like a baked one? How old is your grandson? Which mixes have you tried? Sorry this is slightly OT but what an amazing mom, bartfull! Sweet!
  5. Welcome aboard! You've come to a great, great place for support and ideas! There are folks here of all ages and folks with so many different kinds of experiences, there is a wealth of information here to help you. I'll start out...yes, this is HARD! It is a major life-change and if only one person has to be gluten-free, it is hard on the rest of the...
  6. You might ask the doctor's office what the reference range is for the test, even get a copy for yourself. Many labs have ranges similar to "<19", so if your DS is under 20, that is the limit below which they simply cannot detect an exact number. So, sounds great, and that is awesome news to receive! Congratulations!
  7. So many great replies have already been given, I can only say "amen" to all of them. I would encourage you to get copies of your lab work and see what tests they actually did. Too often they do only one or two of the tests available to them, and they miss a lot of true celiacs that way! Celiac testing has a 20-30% false negative rate. Do you know...

    ARCHIVED Celiac And Time

I wonder now if my grandmother had it. She died at age 74 of multiple myeloma, and studies are starting to show that MM might be an end-stage of celiac. I think my mom also might have it, she is 85. She failed (tested negative) on all celiac testing earlier this year but she was also deficient in both IgA and IgG globulins. Her testing was useless...
  9. Yes, without question, yes. If you go off gluten and you are celiac your antibodies can fall very quickly, giving you a false negative.
  10. I can't really say for sure. I do know that my autoimmune thyroid issues (Hashimoto's) started in after a major stress in my life, my dad's cancer and unexpected death. I also was found hypothyroid after my first child, but not autoimmune. Then, a few years later, I was very sick with an intestinal bug (a norovirus I thought) and it was after that...
  11. If you have a poor balance of flora in your intestine, you might not be able to tolerate a full dose of probiotics at first. You also might need to avoid dairy based ones, as well as avoiding ones with "pre-biotics" also called "FOS" which stands for fructo-oligosaccharides. Inulin is sometimes added as a pre-biotic, and could present problems as well....
  12. Welcome to the family and a new adventure in eating! It's great to have answers when you've been feeling badly and I wish you good healing.
  13. Yes, lots of people with celiac can have other autoimmune disorders. Autoimmune thyroid (Graves or Hashimoto's) are very common, as is Type 1 Diabetes. There are others that don't happen quite as often. I think autoimmune hepatitis is another one. One specific test they can run is the anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) which is a measure of autoimmunity...

    ARCHIVED Celiac And Time

As I've said before, I'm not here to argue the merits of one system over another. I'm just tired of the insults being thrown towards the south of the border. I'm not going to insult the beloved Canadian system, if Canadians are enamored with what they've got, they know best. I wish the Canadians would have the courtesy to do the same.
  15. I just popped open my Angry Orchard and sipped it down after a long, hot labor in the strawberry bed. I am so impressed. It was delicious and refreshing. I'm a fan! This cider is really, really good! It will definitely be in the regular rotation for hot-weather quenching!
  16. I've used Open Original Shared Link egg white protein and liked it, it is supposed to mix okay with water. They have whey also. This is my opinion only, and I'm sure there will be disagreement with it, but I'd leave HR out of it. HR doesn't exist for the employee, it exists to protect the company from lawsuits. So unless you have a serious need, for...
  17. Be still my heart!!!
  18. Liver function should be part of a complete metabolic panel. Along with TSH, you could ask for Free T3 and Free T4. If you haven't been suspicious of thyroid issues, TSH might be okay by itself but the Frees will head off any brewing trouble. For iron, you can ask them to include serum ferritin. That is storage iron, you'll often go low on that...
  19. I'm confused by the report. Elevated Lactoferrin does point to inflammation and inflammatory bowel disease, and the SED rate is also an idicator of inflammation. Have they tested you for bacterial overgrowth? Stercoral ulcers (I had to Google that one!) ARE a result of chronic constipation. And they can be dangerous, so you need to take them seriously...

    ARCHIVED Celiac And Time

It's only expensive if you try to replace all your gluten-filled goodies with gluten-free ones. You don't need a "gluten-free" label on everything you buy. Whole foods...fresh meats, veggies, fruits, all are naturally gluten free. If you are not allergic then nuts, cheeses, dairy, also gluten free. Baking isn't that hard either, the Internet has...
  21. Whoa. I'd never heard about toxins in beans! What evil things are hiding in them? Off to Google... Okay, just back from the Great Information Emporium in Cyberspace. What an eye opener! There are Open Original Shared Link in raw beans. I always knew there was a danger associated with fava beans and I never use them, but wow. I didn't...
  22. Oh...I see...you were not AT 4 on the TtG, you were below 4. Yeah, you are negative on the tests they did. However, they seem to have left out the total serum IgA. That is important since 2 of the 3 tests are IgA tests. If you are IgA deficient, those other two IgA tests would be invalid. A couple of days (if only two or three) won't make a difference...
  23. I'm going to be mail-ordering from now on. I've been very frustrated with what I find in the stores because of all the pre-biotics, and the limited assortment of strains in the ones without pre-biotics. IrishHeart has shared about the company Open Original Shared Link and I like the look of their stuff. The owner, who developed his different mixes...
  24. Interesting, I thought they were supposed to be easily available. Of course I'm not Canadian, so what do I know! I see it's been a while and no one else has posted, I wonder if you started a new thread in this International topic asking specifically for "Celiacsure Test...need help finding" or something like that, more of the Canadians will come around...
  25. Hi and welcome. You have found a very good place to get support and information. I think it is one of the best on the 'net. There are a lot of people here with a variety of experiences and conditions, people who have struggled for answers sometimes for decades. Glad you found us. I am so sorry you are having such a difficult time and that you have felt...
