  1. Ditto what Roda said. Lots of positive antibody tests, especially the anti-EMA, scream celiac.
  2. Corn flakes? Puffed rice or puffed millet? Enjoy makes a couple of lovely cereals that are little crunchy balls, one is crunchy flax the other is rice, they are kind of like Grape Nuts...I like them. Arrowhead Mills makes a buckwheat flake, but golly, when I think about it most of the cereals are either flakes or balls. Does he like to dress up his...
  3. Hi, and welcome to the forum. First, if you do enough reading here, you will not need to spend a bunch of money on a book. There is such a wealth of information here, from experienced foodies, you will be able to "catch on" to this new way of life. It's overwhelming at first, but it gets easier as you do it! Others have given you great suggestions...
  4. I see now why the scope might be recommended. The TtG IgG can be elevated from some things besides celiac, and the scope should show damage to the intestine. Some docs won't diagnose if that is the only elevated antibody. That said, there are several here who only had positive TtG IgG, and yet their scope showed a LOT of damage. That antibody is a definite...
  5. What a heart-lifting story! Thanks so much for sharing it! It is just wonderful that she has been able to see so many improvements in her quality of life! Cheers!
  6. I'm about two months gluten free (with the exception of three or 4 mis-steps) and I'm noticing I am more reactive than I thought I'd be. I was eating bread and all kinds of glutenous stuff and not feeling too badly, maybe some bloating and a little tenderness once in a while. Now, if I get a little unexpected gluten I start hurting in a few hours, and...
  7. My thyroid is as well treated as it can be, hormone levels (T3 and T4) just above mid-range and zero TSH, so I know that's not my problem. Yes, the not worrying about birth control is great, but sadly my menopause experience has not been kind, and I've lost the mojo. I am noticing a bit of stirring after two months gluten-free, maybe that is the key...
  8. Glad it went well for you, and hope you'll be feeling well soon!
  9. HI and welcome to the forum. You are going to receive answers from all over the spectrum on the question of scoping vs. not scoping. You'll have to be the final judge. If you really need a firmer diagnosis to make you stay on the diet, maybe scoping is worth it. If you need a diagnosis for some kinds of tax advantages or for disability services, it...
  10. Yep, one of only two up sides of menopause! Of course the insomnia, weight gain, water retention, night sweats/hot flashes, thinning hair, dry skin, and a couple of things I won't talk about, aren't necessarily worth it. I think I'd rather be PMS-ing in all honesty.
  11. Funny how I've told so many people that very thing and not taken it to heart for myself. If it walks like a duck...
  12. Hope all went well for you!
  13. You might try a probiotic without inulin or other prebiotics (another poster mentioned this). I can't say with scientific certainty that this is an issue, I do know that when I started on probiotics after my diverticulitis I got gut-wrenching cramps every time I took them. Now, after learning how the Specific Carbohydrate Diet works against bad bacteria...
  14. It sure looked like they were thinking about our age and all our possible conditions, LOL. And yes, after getting off to a rough start with this, he's really getting on board! He's always been my dearest, best friend. So, I made it through the parties, and on the long drive home we had to make an emergency pit stop in a fast food joint to use the facilities...
  15. There are other autoimmune conditions that can raise your ttg, not just celiac. Thyroid disease is one of them, autoimmune hepatitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (like Crohn's), a couple of other things. Your doc should be investigating to rule those out.
  16. It is definitely frustrating to be fighting autoimmune conditions and their side-effects. I'm sorry you've had to add another one to your list. Your doc is doing fine, he needs to look at Free T3, Free T4 and thyroid antibodies. One of the better books on thyroid is "The Thyroid Solution" by Ridha Arem, but you can find a lot for free from some...
  17. Thanks a bunch! I see you are the same year as we are! Yep, at our age we probably ALL have something...in fact, they played a "musical chair" game in which during each round, participants had to run to the audience to collect an item...one was "medication". It was hilarious how many prescription bottles came out of pockets and purses! I didn't go...
  18. So my husband and I are out of town for his 40-year high school reunion. We went to a gathering last night which worked out fine, they had gluten-free beer at the grill/pub and we avoided eating any of the appetizers provided. It was fun and not bad. Until one of the classmates (and spouse) mentioned how hungry they were, since they didn't eat dinner...
  19. Almond meal=almond flour, but be sure you get a good brand if you don't make it yourself. The almond flour from Honeyville Grains is much finer and better than Bob's Red Mill for most baking. Probably will work okay in pancakes. Remember that using coconut flour you need more eggs and liquid. Even if it's made from your dried up flakes, it will suck...
  20. What is this thing called "morning"?
  21. I hadn't heard of that particular probiotic, but it looks yummy! It doesn't appear to have any of the prebiotics, that's good for now, It doesn't have a huge variety of bacteria, so even though you are using it you might want to add another one for more diversity. I'm jealous! You work at a Whole Foods! They have so much cool stuff (though it's...
  22. For beer you need to find Green's. St. Peter's is also pretty good. However, you might just want to do without for a while so your taste buds can readjust. I have not tried to replace everything, it's just too hard. Some things, like sourdough bread (I had a little stable of unique sourdough starters and made my own) and pizza just aren't the same....
  23. Hmmm... spaghetti using spaghetti squash instead of pasta sandwich wraps using big lettuce leaves instead of bread or tortillas open-faced peanut butter sandwich (and egg salad, and tuna salad) using "pancakes" made with coconut and almond flour and a little cheese yoghurt (homemade SCD friendly) and fresh fruit fresh fruit smoothies with added...
  24. Super sensitive celiacs do have some trouble with the de-glutenized barley beers, so anyone looking to try them should be careful as an earlier poster said. I have really come to like Green's. I've tried their amber, dark, a blonde, found them all very satisfying. Also loved St. Peter's Gluten Free (not all of theirs are gluten free). There have...
