ARCHIVED Going Back To Gi, Negative Blood Results, Is This It?
beachbirdie replied to confused123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They didn't do enough...more tests are needed. The following list is what you want: Tissue Transglutaminase IgG (TtG IgG) Anti-Endomysial Antibodies (anti-EMA) You could ask for both IgG and IgA, though the IgG version is almost never done. Deamidated Gliadin Peptides (DGP) Ask for BOTH versions...IgG and IgA I'm not sure I'd go to the endoscopy... -
ARCHIVED Just A Little Bit Angry
beachbirdie replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mind-boggling. I'm so glad you found the information though, it is awesome to have the validation. It is also affirms strongly why we need to be our own best advocates and NEVER, EVER accept the words "you're perfectly normal" without putting our own eyes on the information. Good luck on the new job, and congratulations! Hope it is going well for you... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test: What Can I Do To Increase Its Accuracy?
beachbirdie replied to jwblue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've heard you need to be eating a minimum of "3 slices of bread" or the equivalent in other glutenous foods, and over a period of 6 weeks to 3 months. You will get varied advice on this one, based on the different medical establishments/people that each have their own preferences! -
ARCHIVED Wheat And Swelling Legs But Negative Antibodies? Help!
beachbirdie replied to ButterflyChaser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your medical testing cannot bring you to any definite conclusions, I would suggest trying an anti-inflammation diet. Edema can be a physical response to inflammation, and inflammation can be caused by many more things than gluten. Some people are sensitive to ALL grains, starches (potato, etc.), sugars, dairy, some even can't take any nightshades (peppers... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Few gluten-free Alternatives
beachbirdie replied to prairiemamma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know if it is available in Canada, but as other said, Amy's gluten free mac and cheese is REALLY good. Make sure you don't get the one with soy cheese though...gross! If you are looking for boxed mac and cheese, Annie's makes a good gluten free one. Are you looking for cream soups for cooking, or eating? I don't use canned soups any more,... -
ARCHIVED The Total Iga And Total Igg : Can Lack Of Iga And Igg Be
beachbirdie replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not sure the articles will apply to your particular circumstances, but hopefully it will help people understand that there is often more going on than just reactions to gluten. I hope you will post your IgG and IgA results when you get them, I'm interested to know what you find. My mom is deficient in both IgA and IgG, makes celiac blood tests worthless... -

Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link These are only two links showing there might be a relationship between food intolerances and IgA/IgG antibodies. More stuff showed up at Google Scholar, I just did a cursory look. Two small revelations here; foods besides gluten can cause antibody production, and people with IgA/IgG insufficiency... -
ARCHIVED Very Interesting Research On Gluten, Inflammation, More!

Another downside that I found about agave syrup is a seriously negative effect on fertility. It has compounds that work as contraceptives. Anyone who is pregnant or trying to conceive should stay far away from agave. -
I am so pumped, I have lost five pounds (after months of trying!). I am back in my regular jeans, it feels soooooo GOOD! Not only that, but I went to urgent care for a sore throat and cough that just won't quit, and when they did my blood pressure I was a full 10 points lower on both systolic and diastolic than I've been in YEARS!!! This primal...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Have A Problem With Dry , Blistering Lips?
beachbirdie replied to TGK112's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Vitamin deficiency? Lips can be dry and cracked if deficient in B vitamins. Does it seem to have any relationship to environment? Does it happen only in certain seasons, or all the time? I would also, like the other poster, possibly look toward allergies. -

How do they test your basal metabolism? I've heard people talk about it, but never heard how it's done! -

Thankfully my weight is spread out proportionally around my body. Not in the middle. But I'm going to ask my doc to check hormones, I'll bet I'm way off since I've been 'paused for 9 years. -
ARCHIVED Worrying, Blood In Stool
beachbirdie replied to dancerloserr2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just want to reiterate what others have said. It is most likely nothing serious, with it being very bright (means the blood is fresh) on the TP; it is more likely to be something like a hemorrhoid. However it could be more serious...do not wait to get it checked out. Don't let embarrassment keep you away from the doctor. They see this kind of thing... -

Thanks for the encouragement! I will hang on to it in my mental "book"! Thanks so much for sharing your story, it really helps to hear. Thanks so much. I am working on the additions. Logically I know they will help. Actually, you mention healing from not absorbing nutrients. I just had an interesting conversation with my doctor's office... -

Thank you! I agree, health is more important than "weight". Hard to remember that some times but I will work on reminding myself. Great idea, my primal-guide daughter agrees with your suggestion. Will try! -
ARCHIVED Can Not Lose! Just A Little Venting Among Friends...
beachbirdie replied to beachbirdie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, fatty meat is important! I do eat it. And wonderful, yummy coconut oil. And that heavenly fruit, avocados! My daughter keeps reminding me that if we cut our calories TOO severely, we actually send our body into starvation mode and the low calories hurt more than help! Thank heaven you understood all that and were able to help your mom! I'm... -

Actually, yes. My doc did a RT3 a while back, and though my ratio wasn't high enough for my doc to want to do anything about it, it was higher than the RT3 lady (whose name I can't think of) who runs an RT3 group recommends. I can't remember the numbers, but it WAS high enough to be problematic! Have you done anything to work on that? Did you ever try... -
ARCHIVED Trouble Losing Weight?
beachbirdie replied to AfterAll's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had a lot of trouble losing "baby weight" after my last 3 kids. The first one, not so much. Your hormones have a lot to do with weight, not just diet. Could simply be hormonal shift. -

beachbirdie replied to beachbirdie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the encouragement! It is so hard to be patient, but I really do FEEL better, and that counts for a lot. I'm hanging on to that while I wait for the pounds to budge! Not thyroid. That was one of the first things I thought of. Just had my tests done last week and they came in about as good as I've ever been. TSH is a little... -

Pure Goodness! Cute! Yes, I really AM enjoying the primal eating. Just wish is worked for me like it worked for my daughter. The good thing is I feel better. Clearer mind, aches and pains diminished. I guess that's a good thing! -

I've been gluten free since May, with one stumble in August. I've been pretty much primal for about 3 weeks now. I've been cutting calories, increasing exercise, and cannot lose an ounce! I piled on 15 pounds in three months while gluten loading for a blood test last winter/spring. Three weeks ago I weighed in at 180 pounds, this morning I am still... -
ARCHIVED Blood Work Results
beachbirdie replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The tests, as you list them, are not celiac specific tests. Do you have a sheet with the full names? Not a bad thing that the doc will do an endoscopy even with unremarkable blood work. That is highly unusual! Glad they are willing to look, sorry you have to be eating gluten. -

Since you have colitis, you have a little more going on than just the celiac. Actually, they are related, and some think lymphocytic colitis might be an early stage of celiac. You might have to take some more drastic dietary steps to speed your healing. There is a forum for people with lymphocytic colitis that you might find helpful, started by a guy...
