  1. She is the waitress not the chef. There is no training that I know of that teaches the waitress community about all the many food allergies and intolerances. For what they are paid, I would never expect them to know that information. I would only expect the chef to know what was in it. Heck, I would not trust what the chef, waitress, or managers said was...
  2. If you need the diagnosis, then yes, absolutely get it. For most of us, we do not need special accommodations or the label. The thing is you can call many GIs and tell them your symptoms and gluten-free helped and they will diagnose you as celiac. I have had a few primary care since then who stated they see the gluten-free diet as the one true diagnostic...
  3. I get what you are saying completely and do agree that you should try for testing if possible although it is not essential. Many are without insurance and even with insurance, the cost of multiple testings is very expensive. The thing is many docs will not even biopsy unless u have a positive blood test. I have had three upper endoscopies and biopsies with...
  4. One thing i would add here is that most do not truly self-diagnose. They have been to many GIs and other doctors along the way who ruled out celiac and tested for other things. Their final diagnosis is the self diagnosis after the GI says IBS and is content to let the patient suffer the rest of their life. I was at GIs from age 14 to age 36 and none could...
  5. when and if there is an rx that really works, then it makes sense to get tested. There is no radar to be on at the moment. all people are doing is paying a GI to go in and say "yep, you still got celiac..pay $200..eat gluten-free..come back in 4 months" Chances are slim that there will be a treatment since most will prefer the gluten-free diet over something...
  6. But what is the point of even a diagnosis for anything other than self confirmation? What is the doctor going to do for you?...recommend a gluten-free diet. That is all the support they will give because that is all they can do. Unless I am missing something major there is really no need or use in convincing the physician as there is nothing they can do for...
  7. We have people on these boards (from reading other threads. not read this one all the way yet) who think you are not a real celiac unless you have a scope done and these are people who should get it. If we cannot get it, then how can doctors.
  8. i think for many who are healing the straight spirits are too harsh on the tender gut and it can be confused with a gluten reaction. for me i often have issues figuring out if the issue was gluten, soy, dairy, or just something stupid i ate.
  9. Can u really tell a difference with the glutamine? i have it and always wondered if it was worth the mild nausea.
  10. They would probably use some kind of bonding agent that contained gluten as well as soy.
  11. I love that show. I do not recall her ever saying or doing anything racist; however, she is definitely rude, jaded, and very hard. That is her character. I actually found the comment hilarious because it fit her style.
  12. Removing gluten is a great way to see if you got it right. You might want to avoid soy and milk as well as many of us get crushed by those before we heal. If that makes you feel better, you are on the right track.
  13. Mine has done it as well. Fiber can cause gas, undigested carbs that get into the lower intestines can. Could be fructose, could be lactose, or something else.
  14. lol. i know i am. guess it is time to sleep.
  15. Many people with diagnosed celiac with blood tests and biopsies and everything that makes the label inarguable also notice that they seem to become more sensitive to gluten when they stop it. Does that mean they do not have it either? It just does not make sense to me to use the statement to suggest that "non-celiac" will get more sensitive; therefore, they...
  16. even a positive from gluten-free alone is enough for me and many docs.
  17. when i first diagnosed myself with celiac, i lived in Tennessee with its 80%+ humidity. Had horrible dry eyes. Bad. Always suffering dry, red eyes. Moved to Arizona about a month after going gluten-free and still needed some but quickly stopped needing it and the humidity there is under 10%. You can pee and it never hits the ground.
  18. Anyone else ever have this? I was getting nauseous and clammy hands, little reflux. Knew an oral emission would be coming. Been having a lot of tummy gas. Think from some hidden soy and not so hidden dairy and could be some hidden gluten. Who knows when you break your routines. Well, i finally give in. Drink some water to help things out. Nothing, nothing...
  19. I am glad to hear this. I expected everyone to say they were hit hard from the start with no let up and that it may not be celiac that i am having issues with. Right now my main issues are determining what I am intolerant of right now, soy and milk so far. boo. celiac sux.
  20. I agree with you. Intolerance is a minor issue, ie eating this gives me gas or maybe the runs. For most people on here, their issues are serious when consuming gluten. Imagine the difference in perception to I have a peanut allergy vs intolerant of peanuts. What springs to your mind when you hear both statement? One means you will die, the other means...
  21. Yeah. You do not take it on an empty stomach.
  22. I was posting about how mine seemed to start. There are some times in the past when I had bad spells and then appeared to be back to normal for a year or more in between. Withing the last 10 years I can count maybe 3ish that I can recall. I was relatively normal in between until this last one that hit hardest last year. That is when I figured things out....
  23. I had a blood test many years ago when i had a bad spell. Off and on throughout my adult life I had these spells that were almost cyclical. I cannot explain anything behind that at all. I assume it was negative because the doc never mentioned it again. They took out my gallbladder thinking that was the issue. I seemed to get a little better but then had massive...

    ARCHIVED Soy

I had not even thought about soy lecithin to be honest until just recently. I was more looking at soybean oil. D'oh.

    ARCHIVED Soy

How many of you die a horrible death with soy? I just had some reese cups last night and felt like i was going to croak. Wondering if it was from soy content. I have felt the same way when i consumed vitamin D with soybean oil. Just recently realized that vegetable oil is often soybean oil. It seems like a bunch of little pieces may be falling in place. My...
