  1. What made you opt for GAPS vs SCD? I noticed the SCD site does not look updated since February which is a little worrisome.
  2. I have read a lot of previous posts (some dated way back) about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I just received the book today and plan to start tomorrow. Is anyone on it now? Is it working? Any advice? The bacteria premise is interesting, but I feel that the majority of the benefit comes from not over taxing an already damaged GI system with overly...
  3. that is good to know. I kinda wanted the occasional bread lunch alternative, but I feel better off just eating my can of tuna or meat rolled up.
  4. This is what really sucks (pardon the language) about Celiac. You might also have corn issues, or reflux or too little acid, or too little good bacteria or too much bad bacteria, or have issues with gluten-free replacement ingredients. It is nearly impossible to narrow it all down exactly. Bah. Curse you bad belly. Wow. That was therapeutic.
  5. Sorry. Food for Life. The odd thing is that minor CC never really gets me. In fact I could eat wrong food and only feel fatigue if it is a little or mild issues if I eat a medium amount. I have even eaten regular bread with fewer issues that this. Just odd.
  6. I had two sandwiches with Jiff Natural Peanut Butter and Smuckers SF blackberry jam on Good for Life Gluten free bread. Today i am blech city. Sometimes I wonder if gluten-free bread alternatives are not worse than gluten itself. Nothing else I ate yesterday was worrisome or new.
  7. I was doing well and then like a man aka dork, I started cheating a bit. Pretty much back on track but I have an interesting issue. In the distant past i was diagnosed with GERD and hiatal hernia. I started taking Zantac or a PPI but both seem to make it worse. I have read that the symptoms for low and high acid are the same. My brain it making me wonder...
  8. I am having a hard time figuring out if Mayfield's French Onion Dip is gluten free. It probably would have been best for me to check BEFORE I ate it...
  9. I just now saw your reply. I went gluten-free in about March with some challenges to it since I was not officially diagnosed. Each time about 1-2 days later and sometimes earlier I notice I am a dingbat. Sunday I had a small piece of cake and yesterday I ate at KFC (famous bowl). So blechy now.. Bad Chad. My discomfort is definitely over the liver area. I...
  10. I have had more than a few mornings like that after eating something with gluten, dairy, soy. Oddly sometimes the worst offenders are specialty gluten-free products. Thinking it might be soy in them.
  11. Interesting point. It seems that usually people respond that the issue is the lactase being made on the villi which are now damaged. So it sounds like that really may not be relevant to this issue as it is not a lactase deficiency but a lactose/gluten confusion.
  12. Will taking lactase cover this issue? For me it feels more like an allergic reaction (congestion) then the lactose gi stuff.
  13. Same here. WW allows u to eat almost anything so long as you do not go over the points. Even worse I will not go without eating when I feel hungry.
  14. Depending on how you ate then and how you ate now, I think a lot of the "gluten withdrawal" is a reaction to a significantly changed amount of carbs you are consuming. Still any change in eating habits will confuse your body for a time as it readjusts. meat eater to veggie, high carb to low carb. Ironically some of the gluten free substitute foods make...
  15. If you will be required to eat out a lot for sales, then I think you MUST go to this. If you will not attend this most critical meal then he is going to wonder if you are reliable enough to attend them with a client. I have never had any business associate or client give me any negatives about having an allergy to wheat (the term wheat is easier for them...
  16. That has been my experience as well. I did phenomenal on Atkins, losing 50 pounds and having spectacular lab values. Now I cannot tolerate that amount of fat. I do like SB but also liked the idea of having certain carby options as many gluten-free products are carby. Still, even following the plan I never lost on WW, so I think SB it is. Thanks for your...
  17. Does WW or South Beach seem to work better for most of you? I am debating WW or SB or WW opting for more lower carb foods. I had great success on Atkins 5 years ago but that was before my gallbladder was removed. I have never seemed to lose anything on WW even following their points. Weird. I am considering starting on phase 2 of SB.
  18. I recently, two weeks ago, started taking Digest Gold. It may be my imagination but it seems to be causing roaring heartburn and really irritating my hiatal hernia which I rarely notice. I tried skipping the dinner dose but do not see a real difference. My non-celiac issues: Hiatal hernia, GERD, and history of ulcers, no GB. Anyone else getting heartburn...
  19. Be sure you are getting enough magnesium or you can get evil side effects from the vitamin D, nausea, tremors, etc. It usually only happens at the higher doses (over 1000 iu)
  20. No offense intended, but he did not make you gluten yourself. Even with his nagging, you had the ability to say NO WAY. I have let people talk me into this and regretted it. Ultimately the fault lies with us. If you asked him to drink battery acid, no amount of nagging would have him do it. It should be the same with us and gluten.
  21. Constant nausea, vomiting, and dizziness gone within 48 hours. That alone was a game changer. Been 3 months now of several accidental oopsies but so much better now than before. Fatigue still there for sure.
  22. I am going to start one in a week or so. I want to give the enzymes some time and be sure there are no adverse side effects from them before adding something new.
  23. Mine seemed to cycle on and off for a decade of more. In fact it was almost 10 years ago that a doc suggested I might have it but never followed up. It seemed to "go away" and then come back every now and then.
  24. It is odd that as you remove gluten you become MORE sensitive to it. Do not get me wrong, I am glad to not have constant nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc, but grrr nonetheless. Going gluten-free definitely seems to have kicked my tummy into a reflux machine and the digestive enzymes seem to have made that worse. OK. Rant over. Have a nice day
  25. Sorry to resurrect an older topic, but I just started these yesterday. I did notice a little more heartburn and some mild nausea, but I am easily convinced that a damaged/inflamed gut is going to be tender for a while anyway. Having no GB and issues with milk, it seems like these things may be a good permanent inclusion.
