  1. Thanks for all your support, everyone. I was still feeling under the weather. I went to the doctor, he sent me to get a sonogram (thought it was appendicitis). I just had a sonogram and a million other tests last March when no one could figure out about gluten. So. Guess what. I have two stones in my gall badder, each 1 centimeter. Yeah, someone gave me a...
  2. Are you sensitive to corn as well? I just read that a lot of powdered sugars are mixed with corn starch to keep them from clumping.
  3. Yes, you should definitely explore celiac for your daughter. My older son, who is six, had a lot of behavioral issues along with some other symptoms. With entrolab, we found out that he is intolerant to gluten, casein, and eggs. What a HUGE difference! Just a word of warning though. In some children, gluten and casein act as opiates (there's a good article...
  4. If you want to do blood tests, don't stop eating gluten foods until you've had the blood test. Wow, it sure sounds like you have celiac disease. What terrible suffering you've had! Usually it is triggered by stress or an infection--so going through a divorce would definitely set you off. I hope you get some answers! Going up to the search engine on this...
  5. I'm doing better today! Thanks everyone. I am still lying around, but I've definitely turned a corner. Raven, is that a picture of your new dog? She is so cute. I wonder if I ought to get counseling.
  6. Thank you for the encouraging words. I helps me a lot. I woke up today, and I couldn't open my eyes--my whole face had just sagged. And I couldn't feel my hands, and I couldn't breathe very well. I get really down on myself for freaking out and like losing my mind, but you know, that does feel a little bit like you are dying. So I'm doing a bit better. It...
  7. I think I was glutened really badly. I bought some buckwheat flour--the same flour I've bought in the past. It looked different, but I bought it anyway. I made bread and pancakes with it and am in really bad shape now. I get immobilizing anxiety, I feel like I'm losing my mind. Along with vomiting and pain in my back too. I'm so discouraged. After about...
  8. Thank you so much for mentioning salicylate on your profile. It caught my eye, and I looked it up. I have been "allergic" to asprin since a child, and I've always been super cautious about medicine--I have bad reactions. It makes so much sense. I also have trouble with iodine/salt/DH. Thanks for this info, it helps me!
  9. I'm a mom in the same boat! Both of my boys can't have gluten, and one can't have casein either--it's our first Halloween on the diet. Anyone out there know what to do? I'm thinking of hosting a pumpkin or squash carving party and everyone wears costumes (maybe not the same night as Halloween) and just having candy for the boys to have after the party...
  10. Corn (esp high fructose corn syrup) gives me DH as well as gluten. You might want to consider eliminating corn for a while (and it's hard because it's in so much!!). Also, avoid iodine--for some reason, if you eat foods with iodine, DH will not go away. Get a salt that does not have iodine, don't eat salmon for a while etc. I hope you feel better soon!
  11. I think you might have another food intolerance--most likely dairy. Others have said it too, just to add that I had the same issue. My constipation didn't really clear up until I went off dairy. Quinoa helps me break my constipation.
  12. In the beginning, it happened a lot... the packaged hamburger had fillers, my hand cream had wheat germ oil and so on. After a while, it happens fewer and fewer times. One thing is that I got glutened a lot when I had a mixed kitchen. I'd accidentally put the wrong syrup on my pancake or breathe in some wheat flour by accident. I don't get glutened much now...
  13. Holy cow! That's so awful! I'm sure you are counting the hours until you can go gluten free again!
  14. Did you ever try entrolab (www.entrolab.com)--they can test for candida/yeast. People with candida have to avoid gluten too. Did you already get tested for that? I read somewhere that it's possible to be sensitive to gluten even if your intestines aren't damaged. Well, if gluten makes you feel like junk, maybe just avoid it and see how it goes.
  15. I am overseas as well (in Asia)--same problems you have. It took me forever to read labels and figure out what foods to eat!! I totally understand what you are going through! One thing about being overseas--be careful about the generic medicines you get there, they are super cheap but usually have gluten in them!! I live in a country where the hospitals...
  16. I am really sad for you that you have so little support. Is it possible to find another person in your area who is also gluten and casein/dairy free? I feel very heart to heart with others on the same diet because it IS really overwhelming sometimes. I understand about the glutening problems. I don't eat out much anymore. I have one or two restaurants that...
  17. I am ultra careful about what goes on my face and hands. Let's say you put lotion (with gluten in it) on your hands, and then absentmindedly pick up a sandwich before the lotion really dries. Or let's say you lick your lips and the lipstick with gluten in it get's into your mouth. I think all in all, it is just soooo much better for your skin if you put stuff...
  18. Yes, I have delayed response all the time. That's why it was so hard to pin down gluten in the first place--sometimes, I get a reaction right away, sometimes hours and hours later. Yeah, stay away from those fries!! And good luck!
  19. It always brings tears to my eyes when I read someone else's story about having bone crushing pain. My toes were numb for years--I got tested for diabetes etc, nothing showed up. Then last year, I starting having that bone crushing pain up my spine. I just remember being in the hospital and screaming for a morphine shot, you just never forget those moments...
  20. Is your multivitamin gluten free? Some vitamins use gluten as a bonding agent--it's one of those stealthy glutening things! If it is gluten free, then I think you ought to go off all animal milk. Do the elimination diet method and see if you feel better. I am off gluten and dairy too (because of my son)--there are still lots of delicious things you can...
  21. I am very new to the gluten free life, so I am not an expert. I liked entrolab.com I found out that my son has problems with gluten, casein (milk), and eggs. I didn't even need a doctor's appointment--they just send you the kit, and you mail it back to them. It's a consideration for you. They test for other things too like soy and yeast etc. Good luck...
  22. I had the same issues with constipation, so I understand that nightmare. I took me 4 months of being gluten free before I was regular (well, as regular as I have been in my life... not totally there yet). Don't get discouraged if it doesn't clear up right away--it takes a while for your intestines to heal. Just be careful how many things you replace with...
  23. How about smoothies? If she got to make it and push the buttons on the blender, she might like it. Can she have coconut milk? That can be nice to add to a smoothie without using nuts or dairy. Then add her favorite fruits. Berries are low in carbs. What about making your own popsicles?
  24. One thing that is great about this forum is that it is somewhere that you can really express your ANGER. That is something that is really hard when you've gone undiagnosed. I was so overjoyed at how I was steadily getting better and feeling "well" for the first time in my life... but man alive, I was also so furious. Being told that I was melancholy and oversensitive...
  25. I just went with entrolab.com I liked it a lot because they test your stool, and you can already be off gluten and still get accurate results. Plus, they do genetic testing and will test for casein, soy, etc. etc. I know it's not widely accepted in the States, but I personally think it's a good option.
