  1. Pardom me but ur Dr is a QUACK! If u have villi flattening how the hell is that inflammation?? Flat villi only occurs when the antibodies attack & destroy it. What kind of Dr would call that inflammation? Sounds like malpractice to me!! Please go to another dr. If you feel better on a gluten-free diet then stick with it. You may also be reacting...
  2. @mommida--it would be interesting to know if ped's bro-in-law was fed gluten-free while in his "country club" prison. Next time u visit the ped please ask.
  3. So the summer is over, how is the baby doing now? Has she gone gluten free? Do you ever watch Mystery DX on the OWN channel? I've seen quite a few cases of little kids with symptoms like yours . However there are so many episodes I couldn't begin to tell you which ones to look for. it sounds very suspiciously like celiac but it could be an enzyme or something...
  4. Let me get this straight--women are give heavy carbs to fatten them up?! IN mens prison they have a gym & weights to make them stronger--what's wrong with this picture??
  5. Interesting replies! Most of you say gluten-free would not be offered & you are probably right. What prompted DD to ask was that we were watching "Beyond scared straight" where teenagers are take to prison for a day in an attempt to set them on a good path in life. It made her think if celiacs would get proper food in jail? DD is a very good girl...
  6. My DD asked me an interesting q today to which I couldn't answer. So I will ask you all here. If someone with celiac goes to jail or prison will they be given gluten-free foods or do they get what everyone gets? And if they are given gluten-free foods, are precautions taken to avoid cc? Eager to read any answers.
  7. [size="7"]My 13 yo DD has gained about 5 lbs since June and has grown over 2 inches. Her growth was stunted somewhat. Once the gut can absorb the nutrients growing and weight gain occurs. Some gluten-free foods have more calories than their non gluten-free counterpart such as waffles, bread, bagels, etc. Adding extra snacks & milkshakes helps too...
  8. Chilis has a gluten-free menu & i've taken my celiac kids there quite a few times . However my kids do not have gastro symptoms so if they were cc'd I wld never know it. When they go for a blood test in Nov. I 'll see how well we are doing trying to live gluten-free. We haven't been to a gluten-free pizza place yet. Chcik Fila grilled chkn breast...
  9. Well I spoke to the cafeteria mngr @ my DD middle school & she told me "If I were you I'd send her lunch everyday" . They do offer salad bar which DD wouldn't touch with a 10 ft pole. Btw my kids qualify for free lunch. So its a shame she can't eat the school lunch but her health is 1st so I send lunch with her. The mngr read me the ingredients for...
  10. If I were you I'd eliminate dairy for a while then slowly reintroduce to see if there is a reaction. For diaper rash air dry then apply a thin layer of miconozole, (most diaper rashes are yeast based as I found out with my kids) let it soak in then apply ur regular diaper rash cream leave diaper off as much as possible. As well as trying gluten-free,...
  11. If I were you I would definitely have Dr. run a celiac panel, and have a bone age scan to see how much growth she has left. Also have her vit D level chkd. It can be ordered by the gen Dr or an endocrinologist. Puberty is just around the cnr and you want to get to the bottom of this sooner rather than later. My DD fell off the charts @ age 12.5. She was...
  12. @ T.H. The pediatric gastroenterologist I went to WOULD NOT give a dx of celiac w/o the biopsy. He said he has to follow protocol. I said "what would the result be in any event? ( as the blood antibodies were in the high range) My kids go gluten-free? Of course he said "YES" We are @ a disadvantage not having a dx, but I refuse to indulge in the stupidity...
  13. My kids love Udi's gluten free pizza crust--just add sauce & cheese & it's done in 8 mts. (I buy bottled pizza sauce for $1.20) Perhaps your son would like to make (assemble) his pizza himself either there or at home. For a snack what's better than popcorn or lays chips or snyder's gluten-free pretzels? There's always yogurt & fruit too. ...
  14. My DD is 13 & was 4'7 earlier this year. Since going gluten-free she has grown 2 inches & gained 4/5 lbs! She is now 4'9 & busting out of her size 7/8 clothes (which she also wore for over 2 yrs) & is wearing a 10 now soon to be 12. As broke as I am, I am more than happy to get her new bigger clothes Her bone age scan in Dec was age...
  15. My DD takes lil critters as well. She is not crazy about the taste but she takes it. The Endocrinologist had suggested Tums but she hated the chalkiness. Some kids like it/some don't. The flavors are fruity or you can try mint if your kid likes mint. Tums has lots of calcium & is safe. There are other chews too that are chocolate flavored. DD didn...
  16. @ KarenG: No no known mental problems but I do wonder sometimes (lol..). She is simply a drama queen! She has shown she can make choices & if anything is questionable she will ask. She will not intentionally eat gluten I've bought/made different things for her to try, but you know the saying "you can bring a horse to water... She often refuses to...
  17. Thx for your reply but again she doesn't like peanut butter. Nor does she like cheese,(except mozzarella on pizza) carrots or cucumbers. and cottage cheese no way! Its not on her list of LIKEs. She will refuse meat/rice in the thermos after a few days Anyway keep the replies coming. I appreciate it. : )
  18. All of these are good ideas however my 13 yo DD is so picky & dramatic there is nothing on any of these lists that she will eat. They are too exotic/she's never had them/ I don't know how to make them. I don't have an official DX so the school won't make accommodations as far as her heating up her food. Plus she would not t want to as she doesn't want...
  19. Measured DD again & now she is 4'9! She is growing 1/2 inch per month! woohoo! gluten-free diet really works.
  20. I can't remember what exactly was in the dutch chocolate but it was clearly nor gluten-free. it is not on the list (of the linked pg above) All i remember isthat I saw some wheat ingredient & had to stop buying it for my DD.
  21. well the sour gummies flintstones are not gluten-free. We switched to lil critters. not sure if you'd object to the dye in them. I think there is a Disney vit that's gluten-free too as are the walgreens brand. as for iron you might just want to take a separate slow release iron tab. Most people prefer them.
  22. BLUE BELLS is not gluten-free!!!! My DD who loves the Dutch Chocolate had to stop eating it. Why would there be gluten in ice cream??????? CRAZY!!!!!! Well she can eat Breyers & Publix house brand no gluten! Anyway I'm not sure if all Blue Bells has gluten, read the label.

    ARCHIVED Chili's

We went to Chili's (in Miami-Kendall Dr.) as a last mt decision & was very pleased. They has a bunch of separate menus for different allergies/problems--one for dairy, one for nuts, etc. And of course a gluten-free menu. DD had grilled chicken/rice off the kids menu. I had a potato soup with my meal & it was gluten-free so DD tasted it & she loved...
  24. They both take vit D supplements in addition to multi vitamin. DD cannot swallow capsules but thanks for the idea. I've tried them in the past & I get a fishy repeating flavor when burping Disgusting! Some of the gluten-free items have alot more calories than non gluten-free. for ex Udi bagels. I think that's partly why DS gained 5 lbs.
  25. Have you had a colonscopy? if you haven't had one I would ask Dr to order one.
