ARCHIVED Coping With Uninformed People
RL2011 replied to JaniceS's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
JaniceS, First of all don't get discouraged by other people. You will forever have to deal with ignorant people. Just be firm, straightforward and clearly state your thoughts. I determine who to speak with in a normal manner and I tend to go a little over board and intimidate ignorant people. This comes from managing large groups of employees both... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Felt Amazing First Two Weeks Now Not So Much?
RL2011 replied to nik95670's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I too am new to being gluten-free (as of May 2011). In addition to eating whole foods, I have found that I have to force myself to drink plenty of water (50+ oz in addition to other liquids) and take vitamins. For the first 3 weeks after going gluten-free I felt like crap. For the past 2 weeks it has been more mental than physical. I am trying to... -
I eat gluten-free Oats (Glutenfreeda). Looking for better oats though.

I cope by eating nothing but whole foods. I mostly follow Mark Sisson's diet he outlines in his book The Primal Blueprint and use his cookbooks. I had a problem trying to change the semi-processed foods I previously ate by using gluten-free ingredients in replace of wheat. So I decided to cut out all gluten-free breads, pasta, cookies, and the rest of...

ARCHIVED How Do Your Kids Talk To Adults About Gluten?
RL2011 replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The number one way to insure your kids can properly deal with both adults and other kids is to make sure your kid has confidence in theirself. As soon as a kid feels like he has to go along to fit in or is not self-confident then he/she has already lost the battle. Every child must be emotionally strong first in addition to being given the proper knowledge... -
Throughout our human existence whether as a group (mob) or individually we have always picked on people who are different or weaker. Everyone needs to move away from the fringes of society whether it be farleft or far right. What I mean is we all should be more tolerant of differences in others as well as their handicaps or inadequacies. And the same thing...

ARCHIVED My First Trip To The Mil's Since Diagnosis
RL2011 replied to SnoBaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In this type of situation... The way to be happy in life is to be strong mentally and demand respect in a nice way from all you interact with, including family. If you let people walk over you then change your name to Matt as in door mat. While you cannot expect others to accommodate your needs if they differ from their own, however, you should expect... -

ARCHIVED I Didn't Go To Book Club Today...
RL2011 replied to Katrala's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Teacher! I can understand you not wanting to go and eat at a restaurant. Our minds are wired a bit strange. I have always been a social person even when getting sick over and over when I ate. It never stopped me. I still went out and ate socially and then dealt with bad gut issues. Now here it is a little less than one month since finding out the... -

ARCHIVED Having A Celiac Break Down
RL2011 replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Valerie, First of all remember that you must find something to keep your mind focused on staying strong mentally. Do not dwell on any ignorant or negative feedback from either your husband, family or your friends. Do not let anyone dictate how you feel. It is hard enough dealing with the emotional issues resulting from celiac disease alone. If you... -

ARCHIVED Please Help Bloating Is So Bad
RL2011 replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with what has been said already. Cut all everything out of your diet except whole (gluten-free) foods. Too often I have read here people faced with changes to their diet from celiac disease or gluten intolerance that they try to duplicate the poor diet they had before by eating gluten-free junk food/ deserts and gluten free processed foods.... -
Everyone is tired from viewing this thread so much... I got real tired after eating gluten for a few months and killing my intestines. It has been 3 weeks now since not eating any gluten and for the first time in over 2 months I felt like I have more energy. I am heading out on a 2 day 1,000 mile motorcycle ride tomorrow and hope I have the energy level...

ARCHIVED The Gluten Was "fermented" Out Of The Sauce
RL2011 replied to Dee777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would not trust their statement, "We have carried this product in our line for 4+ years and have never had a problem with it.". If you sell food and it starts out with gluten from the wheat then it has the gluten in it when its sold. The only way a food seller should (legally) make a statement like they did is if they do periodic testing at an independent... -
ARCHIVED My Story.: Step One Or Something Like That
RL2011 replied to RL2011's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not the best at following my own advice but why is it that I see/ hear many people faced with changes to their diet from celiac disease or gluten intolerance that they try to duplicate the poor diet they had before by eating gluten-free junk food/ deserts. I had some gluten-free ice cream yesterday and made myself a promise that I will only allow... -
ARCHIVED At What Temperature Do You Function Best?
RL2011 replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
As a person who has done more than play an occasional game of golf or tennis and being an avid hiker, skier, snowmobiling, dirt and street motorcycling... I have spent many days and nights sleeping in an unheated cabin outside in cold temps below zero with no running water and using an out-house to spending days crossing deserts in temps above 115 deg. ... -
