ARCHIVED Weight Watchers And Gluten Free
mamabear272 replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do it currently. It's called points plus program. If you go to weightwatchers.com you can get information on joining. You don't have to go to meetings per se. You can do it all online if you choose to. I personally find the meetings very helpful. You can also find a meeting in your area and you should be able to sit in on a meeting for free before you decide... -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Using Paper Towels?
mamabear272 replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since my dx I have subconsciously been using paper towels. Don't even give it a second thought. I trust no one! LOL Even if they don't mean to sometimes our "gluteneers" can accidentally cc us. -
ARCHIVED My First Trip To The Mil's Since Diagnosis
mamabear272 replied to SnoBaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I certainly wouldn't let them bring their dog when you're allergic. For them to even ask is ludicrous! It sounds to me that you have some hurdles with your MIL that I wouldn't even deal with. If I were you, I would just stay away from them and be done with it. Just hearing about her makes my blood boil! And my hubby was the same way as your sister on... -
ARCHIVED Weight Watchers And Gluten Free
mamabear272 replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been doing WW since Jan of this year and haven't lost 2 weeks in a row until now. The last 2 weeks I've lost more than I did from Jan till dx. I first joined in Jan of 2006 and did great! Mainly because I didn't eat bread or noodles because they were high in points. This last time I joined, we (hubby and me) have been eating whole grain breads and... -
ARCHIVED Things To Be Thankful For.....
mamabear272 replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm thankful for: My wonderful hubby how tries really hard to be gluten-free with me (it's not 100% but he does well) my friend's mom who gave me a gluten-free cookbook with delicious recipes in it all the foods that are naturally gluten-free (makes things less expensive) the gluten-free bakery/deli that we have not too far from me the book Living... -
As if you need any more testimony about the Dummies book, I HIGHLY recommend it too! I'm still working on it but I've learned sooo much from it. I kept reading the same information online but it didn't make sense to me as far as what gluten does to us that makes us sick. When I read Dummies, it all clicked! I was actually in the hospital with diverticulitis...

ARCHIVED Feel Like I Am Finally Starting To Get Somewhere
mamabear272 replied to alex11602's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I couldn't even tell you how many times I just sat in the house in my jammies for DAYS!! I almost never do that now and I'm only 2 weeks into being gluten-free. And if I was out, all I could think about was getting home. So many things didn't get done cause I would come home before I was finished. I didn't even think about it till I read this post. What an... -
ARCHIVED My First Trip To The Mil's Since Diagnosis
mamabear272 replied to SnoBaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
notme, I tend to disagree. Your MIL knows about your dx and chooses to continue to sabotage you. I would be angry too. In this case, her MIL wasn't even informed of her condition. She was pretty blindsided by the whole thing and had no time to plan. She's being chastised when she was the one out of the loop. She had plans based on not being informed. -
ARCHIVED My First Trip To The Mil's Since Diagnosis
mamabear272 replied to SnoBaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know that you're hurt but look at it from her point of view. She was kind of blind sided by the change in your diet. Your hubby probably should have let her know before you arrived. She wasn't given any warning that she would have to prepare things differently or that you couldn't have certain foods. I do agree that the weight comment was uncalled for... -
ARCHIVED I Feel So Much Better....but Why Can't I Do It?
mamabear272 replied to staci002's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm only about 2 weeks into being gluten-free but I feel so much better! I had no idea how bad I felt till I felt better. I really can't imagine going back to gluten. I am so happy right now there are times I feel like crying tears of joy! I mean that literally! I have literally had to hold back tears. Knowing that there's a reason that I felt like crud all... -
ARCHIVED My Mum Wants To Sue?
mamabear272 replied to CourtneyLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree that people are too quick to threaten a lawsuit. I would call the restaurant and explain the seriousness of celiac and the need to be gluten free. It is going to be up to us celiacs to educate others. I know that until I was diagnosed I knew squat about gluten and the disease (same with my family as I'm the first official diagnosis). We need to get... -
love2travel, I like brownies, any cookies, cakes. It's good to know that I'm not alone in my struggles. Thank you all for your stories! I'm sure I'll get there!

ARCHIVED Not Sure What Happened
mamabear272 replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
it definitely should be! I agree! -
Thank you all for your wise words! I'm so glad I found this group. My dh is trying to mostly eat gluten-free with me but he doesn't get that I do it not because I'm supporting someone but because I have to. If he wants bread he can (and does) have it. love2travel, I'm almost glad I have symptoms. It would make it much harder to stay away from the stuff...

I have been gluten-free for about 1 1/2 weeks. I was making some pies for a fund raiser that a friend of mine is running. I don't have a problem with that but my hubby brought home graham cracker crusts (I'm making cherry pies so those won't work). He goes "well just make a pudding pie with them." This set me off! I was like "I CAN'T HAVE THAT!" I then proceeded...

ARCHIVED Not Sure What Happened
mamabear272 replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That seems dirty to me! I thought they had to list if it is even possible that there is cc in production. I've seen the listing before that basically although there is no wheat in the product, the product is produced in a facility where wheat products are produced therefore cc cannot be guaranteed. Looked everywhere for it on the nuts. Grrrr! -

What about onions??? Are they good or bad? -
ARCHIVED Happy To Be Celiac?
mamabear272 replied to ilookthetype's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I definitely love it! I feel so much better. I didn't realize how bad I felt till I started to feel better! Even my mom said I'm not as b%$@#y anymore. I asked my hubby and he agreed that I was a little cantankerous before. He didn't realize that I was crabby cause it was so gradual but now that I'm dx, I'm different. It's so crazy to me too! -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What Happened
mamabear272 replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought i was safe with the 3 new foods but maybe not. And I checked the nuts everywhere for ANYTHING and didn't see it. I had the smoked sausage leftovers for lunch today and seem to be doing ok so I'm down to either the nuts or the corn. I'll try them again separately and see what happens. Won't be for at least a few days though. lol -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What Happened
mamabear272 replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I read that corn is gluten-free but maybe because I'm still healing? I'm only newly gluten-free for a little over a week. -
I haven't had a dizzy spell since I went gluten-free. I had one today and don't know why. I am also having slight stomach cramps. The only things I ate yesterday that are different are Aldi smoked sausage, frozen corn and some mixed nuts from Costco. Everything else I've had before. None of those items should have gluten in them. I don't know what happened...

I've been having firmer BMs and am so excited about it. I never thought poo could be this exciting! lol

ARCHIVED A Couple Of Things
mamabear272 replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And have you found that you've had no problems with cc? -
I may have had a setback today. Not sure why, but I thought I could have Rice Krispies (I'm still REALLY new and learning). We had a party here today for my nephew's graduation and since I couldn't have cookie cake I figured I'd have the treats. I had a pretty good sized piece. Any idea how bad this is going to set me back?? Also, I went to dinner with...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Struggling (Ended Up Being Pretty Long Sorry)
mamabear272 replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Omgosh! Thank you! Here, I was thinking I had a ton more that I couldn't have just because of those four little letters. I was writing off a lot of stuff because of them. Oy. There is so much to learn!
