  1. You could try making rice pudding with brown rice. She might not have dislike the brown rice so much if it had lots of cinnamon and some plump juicy raisins in it.
  2. Because I used to waitress, I am a very critical customer. And this is my pet peeve! I KNOW that a server's hands have been handling money and dirty napkins, as well as gluten filled products. If a server brings my drink that way, I politely point that out to them, then ask for a new drink. Even then, I always use a straw.
  3. Well, it's lunch as well as supper, but I'm proud of myself. I COOKED something and it came out really good! I roasted a large chicken breast (with both skin and bones), and when it was done I took the meat off the bones (after I stood at the counter and ate some of the cripay skin ). Then I added water to the drippings and cooked my brown rice in that...
  4. Strawberry FLAVORED milk. I bet the flaviring had something in it, or it could be, if they used real strawberries in their flavoring, that thoses strawberries were mulched with wheat straw. I learned right here that commercially grown strawberries often are.

    ARCHIVED Eggs

I am so, SO glad I don't have this problem! I LOVE eggs. When I was born, I was sick, and for the first three years of my life it was touch and go. Pneumonia, over and over again, croup, jaundice, all kinds of things. Eggs were the ONLY thing they could get me to eat. It was like my body, even at age two, knew it needed the nutrients in eggs and craved them...
  6. Because corn is a problem for me, I only buy Dannon plain and add my own crushed fresh blueberries or other fruit. Healthier and tastier, and I can control how much (if any) sugar I put in it. I have also just discovered that there is a LOT of nutrition in dried herbs like basil and thyme. I'm going to try using some Dannon plain with some garlic and herbs...
  7. A lot of white rices are dusted with corn starch to keep it from being so sticky. And ENRICHED rice (enriched anything, actually) is enriched with vitamins that have corn as a carrier. Maybe she has a corn issue that she isn't aware of.
  8. I found this great website that lists the top ten foods containing various different vitamins and minerals. I went through the list this morning and was surprised at how much nutrition is in dried herbs like thyme, basil and parsley. Anyway, isn't it great that there are SO MANY foods that pack a lot of nutrition and contain no gluten or corn? Looks like...
  9. My friend Jay always used to say, "Why put a question mark where God has put a period?" and I know he was right. Mom is gone and I can't bring her back. But when I read things like this, I'm pretty sure that I'm not out of line to wonder. Open Original Shared Link If nothing else, maybe someone else can prevent a wrong diagnosis.
  10. Could just be a bug. I had that for a day or so last week. Every time I turned my head it felt like the room was spinning. I thought I had gotten into something with wheat or corn by accident, but several local people have been complaining of the same symptoms, so I'm pretty sure I just caught something from them.
  11. I finally got an answer from Uncle Ben's. Their boil-in-bag rice and even their instant rice are gluten AND corn free, and processed on a dedicated line. Hooray!
  12. A dear friend of mine lost his Dad the other day. I decided to take him out for supper last night so we went to what was always our favorite restaurant. It's a small town and I know the owners, and our server was one of my guitar students. I wrote a note to send to the chef (one of the owners), asking politely if he could cook my steak without any seasoning...
  13. According to this, gluten, corn soy and casein can all cause villous atrophy. Open Original Shared Link
  14. To me, Udi's tastes a lot like french bread. Yum! I also love Canyon Bakehouse 7-grain bread. It is a darker bread with all those little nutty things that you find in "regular" mult-grain breads in the grocery store. Plain rice bread will about scratch your throat open, and tapioca bread has a wierd, nasty taste that can't be covered up no matter what...
  15. So my Mom had been diagnosed with Celiac, after years of being sick, in 1985. She had so much damage that she was told she must get a vitamin B12 shot once a month for the rest of her life. Then, after many years she started showing signs of dementia. She refused to go to the doctor anymore because she was afraid of a possible Alzheimer's diagnosis. I...
  16. I've got a question. Do you think it's possible that after things have started healing I might be able to tolerate SOME corn? I know I'm probably grasping at straws here, but it sure would be nice if I could eat Udi's again someday.
  17. I've been spending a lot of time on corn allergy websites. Here's one where they discuss vanilla and corn: Open Original Shared Link It's AMAZING how many foods have corn in them! I mentioned yesterday, even white rice is often coated with cornstarch, and many frozen veggies are coated with it too, to keep them from clumping together when frozen. ...
  18. I could have sworn I read somewhere that Breyer's vanilla contained gluten, but I was wrong - it's corn. The "natural vanilla flavor" is processed with corn. And I guess I got what I deserved - I ate the Ben and Jerry's a day and one half ago, and then had a second small dish last night. A few minutes ago I had to lock the door to the shop and put up...
  19. I'm glad this thread came back up. Right after making and eating that cornbread I was so proud of above, my psoriasis (I'm still sure that's what it is) flared up with a vengance. It turns out, the reason it got so much better so quickly was because at first I ate no corn. Corn is the culprit, and I am just waiting to try gluten again after a few months to...
  20. I posted an email to Uncle Ben's late Friday afternoon to ask ifthey dust their rice with cornstarch because I am VERY sensitive to corn. I imagine I will get an answer when they come back to work on Monday. You could send them and email about this, just to be sure.
  21. Thank you both for the suggestions! I know I can do this, and I feel like a jerk, whining like this. Last night I cried at the grocery store. I wanted some ice cream and everything they had had corn syrup except Breyers - but the only flavors they carry are vanilla and rocky road - I've heard their vanilla has gluten and the rocky road of course has corn...
  22. Oh yeah, I meant to say, if fructose is the problem (and it might be), make sure the fruit she eats is something with low sugar, like blueberries or bananas. Keep her away from carrots and sweet potatoes too.
  23. My main symptom is psoriasis. It seems that CORN is the culprit in my case. If you put your daughter on a plain meat, plain fruit and vegetable diet (avoid ALL processed foods)and her psoriasis starts getting better, you will be where I'm at now - not certain what is causing it, but on the right road. Could be wheat, could be dairy, could be corn. Or soy...
  24. I am so sorry! The loss of a loved one, the stress of a parent yelling at you, and sick and discouraged on top of it all! Don't forget that in order to be any good to anybody, we need to be good to ourselves first. Take care of yourself and try to remember that your grandfather would understand, and that your father was out of line but stressed by the loss...
  25. I am wondering the same thing about myself. When I first started the diet I ate only meat, fruit and veggies. After a while I found out that corn REALLY makes me sick. I am waiting to feel better again and it is going a lot slower than it did at first, so I'm thinking it might be hidden corn in some of the stuff I eat. I have heard that they even dust some...
