ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread
gf4life replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will, when I dig out the recipe. I don't bake in the summer and the temps around here are still close to 100. When I get it out I will share it. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread
gf4life replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just noticed the part about the bananas! I have no idea if they spoil faster when exposed to cold, since we keep them on the counter and the temperature in our house stays between 65-78 degrees from summer to winter. They still only last a few days in that temperature range. When the bananas go bad (over ripe, too much brown spots) I peel them and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread

I second the freezer recomendation. That is where I keep all the Kinnikinnick products, and then I take them out when I want to use them and thaw for a short time in the microwave. I have not liked the texture as much if they thaw on the counter, or are kept in the fridge thawed. They seem too dry that way. The freezer-microwave method keep the bread... -
ARCHIVED Any Weightlifters, Bodybuilders?
gf4life replied to EddieJP125's topic in Sports and Fitness
Heather, I totally agree with you, but he is in complet edenial that he might need the diet. It took almost a year to convince him that he has the genes! He has always been skinny, he was like a stick when he was a child. He has been complaining because he has been on this 3500 calorie diet plan (45% carbs/ 35% protein/20% healthy fats) for almost 10... -
ARCHIVED Help! Looking For Kinnikinik!
gf4life replied to laurenv2003's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Glazed Chocolate donuts are a chocolate cake donut with a light glaze on them (we couldn't even tell they were glazed!). They were okay, not a favorite here at my house. The Chocolate Dipped donuts are a yellow cake donut dipped in a chocloate frosting glaze. They are one of our favorites here. We also like the Cinnamon donuts. -
ARCHIVED Enviro-kidz Cereal...my Kids Hate It
gf4life replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I currently have the Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice with mixed berries and the Rice Twice, and both boxes clearly say Gluten Free on the front of the box. I have only ever found cereals by them that are gluten free, didn't know they made anything else... Okay, so I looked it up and they have an original Crispy Rice and a gluten free Crispy Rice. Here is... -
ARCHIVED Any Weightlifters, Bodybuilders?
gf4life replied to EddieJP125's topic in Sports and Fitness
That is good to know that there are gluten-free protein shakes out there. My husband is a body builder and his reasons for not getting tested is that he wouldn't be able to use his shakes and supplements. We know he has the genes for gluten intolerance and should he ever need the diet it would be good to know that there are shakes/supplements available... -
ARCHIVED Help! Looking For Kinnikinik!

Maya, Are you keeping your english muffins frozen? They need to stay frozen until you use them. Then you need to microwave them for about 20 seconds, slice them and toast them. They are PERFECT that way. If you let it thaw on the counter it might come out dry. They also need to be toasted, just like regular english muffins. In fact most of Kinnikinnicks... -
ARCHIVED Meatloaf Ideas?
gf4life replied to debbie-doodles's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use Betty Crocker Potato Buds instand mashed potatoes. They are a General Mills company and both Betty Crocker and General Mills say that they will list any of the gluten grains on the ingredients. The only thing in Potato Buds are potatoes and preservatives. We don't have them often, so I don't worry too much about the preservatives. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Chicken Salad Anyone?
gf4life replied to debbie-doodles's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Chicken Salad 1 1/2 cups chicken, chopped or shredded 1/3 cup grapes, cut into wedges 1/4 cup celery, chopped 1-2 tablespoons onions, finely chopped (more or less is your preference) 1/4 cup coarsly chopped walnuts, can be raw or toasted dash of black pepper mayo (enough to make it creamy) chop all the fruits and vegetables. mix all ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Neg Lab Test
gf4life replied to fivemtnman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, many doctors choose this route. I don't like it. I also had negative bloodtests and my doctor was determined NOT to find celiac disease with the biopsy, so she only took 3 tissue samples and did not order the lab to look at them closer. At the cellular level they can see the Intraepithelial Lymphocytes and if these are elevated, then that means that... -
The Outback on Harbor Avenue in Aneheim, CA (about 6 blocks down the road from Disneyland) is extremely well educated in gluten free dining. I just figured they must have had a lot of gluten-free people go through there, but when we were talking to the waiter he told us that the manager is Celiac and on the diet. So I figure this manager must have put the...

ARCHIVED Oreo Like, Gluten Free Cookie
gf4life replied to grantschoep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My kids like the Glutano Chocolate O's better than the Mi-Del. Funny, but we thought the Mi-Del ones tasted too sweet! The Glutano ones have a very soft filling, and if you plan to crush them into cookie crumbs, then it is best to remove the filling or it turns the crumbs to mush. But they taste good. We can't get either one locally either. We buy... -

ARCHIVED Celiac And Mono
gf4life replied to cyanide-sunshine's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My son Jacob was tested for EBV two years ago. His antibody levels were consistent with a past infection (of at least 12 months previous). The reason he was tested is that we were trying to figure out what was causing his recurrent high fevers. He would get a temp of between 103-105 that would last for 2-3 days and occur every 3-4 weeks, like clockwork... -
I have very rarely had the problem of my brown sugar getting hard. I store mine in a ziploc freezer bag after I open the box, and sqeeze out as much air as possible. It is still soft six months later (if it lasts that long!). But I live in a very hot dry area of California, and I know climate plays a big role in food storage...sorry I can't be of more...

Karen, I get this too. I also get the other electric noise everyone else is talking about. But when I am lying in my bed reading at night and the rest of the house is quiet, I can hear conversations and music and such. There have been times where I have gotten up to check to see if the TV was left on (it never has been the TV). I think some of it...

ARCHIVED Enviro-kidz Cereal...my Kids Hate It
gf4life replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids ate the Enviro Kids cereal when they first went gluten-free, but they won't eat them anymore. They changed the Amazon Flakes last year and they have a tropical fruity flavor to them, before the change they tasted more like normal frosted corn flakes. They never liked the Panda Puffs or the Koala Krisp cereals. They did eat Gorilla Much for a while... -
ARCHIVED Back To School (blah)
gf4life replied to DragonQueen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I like my kids to have some protein at each meal, so they take one of the following: sliced lunch meats (we like Carl Buddig premium deli meats) cooked hot dogs (but they have to eat them cold) beef jerky (Pacific Gold original or peppered or Oberto original or peppered are gluten-free) My daughter also occasionally takes Progresso soups (the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Shopping Online
gf4life replied to ILOVEOMC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I shop for most of our bread products (bread, bagels, english muffins, pizza crust, etc) at Kinnikinnick also. I highly recommend them. Open Original Shared Link For other stuff I shop at Gluten Solutions. I prefer them over the other places I shop because they offer a larger selection of the things I buy often. I don't like going to one online store... -
We like the ANDI bars. Mostly the choc. shake and the PB & J. We tried the Coconut Macadamia and although it was very nutritious it is NOT sweet at all. For those of you who like unsweetened things, or need low sugar in your diets it should be a good choice. My kids did not like them and neither did I. My husband finished them off, but even he didn...

What do I do to promote awareness?? Well, I am a big mouth and I talk about Celiac/gluten intolerance to ANYONE who wants to listen. I swear, I've met more people at Whole Foods who need information about gluten free foods than anyone in my entier town! I don't talk about it to people who are not interested, it is a waste of time. I also pass out...
