ARCHIVED Swanson's Chicken Broth
gf4life replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep, Herb Ox buillion is gluten-free. It even says gluten free right on the label. I also had a recent stay in the hospital and got nervous about the broth. But they double checked and said it was gluten-free. I was about to drink it when the nurse runs in and nervously asks if I had the broth yet? I hadn't but then she said they weren't sure about... -
ARCHIVED What To Do About Breakfast On Vacations
gf4life replied to Aprildncr's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I agree about not being able to eat eggs everyday. It gets old. We usually take along a few boxes of gluten-free cold cereal. We eat that in our rooms, or we sometimes take it down to the breakfast room if they offer a "continental" breakfast. We eat the fruit, drink the milk, juice if they are individual packages with labels, coffee, etc. We also... -
Okay the title pretty much says it all. I am a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and I am not ashamed to admit that. Other than saying "God bless" at the end of almost each one of my posts, I try to keep my religious preferences off of the board. Not because I think they don't apply, but because I don't feel it is a place to discuss such issues. There...

Here is a list of symptoms associated with celiac disease that I put together to give to my doctor. I would like to know how many of the symptoms any of you have ( or had in the past if you a gluten-free now). I have 32 symptoms off this list, many of which taken separately could have been something else, but when you look at them together you can tell there...

Are you talking about blog entries you made for yourself or others that you are trying to read. I know when I made my blog the other night I did not "publish" it, so I could read it, but no one else could. I had to go back and hit the publish button on the bottom of the page. If you are reading other peoples blogs, then maybe they forgot to "publish...

ARCHIVED Top Three Worst Gf Products
gf4life replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, my 3 least favorite gluten-free products are: (I added my favorite brand after each) 1)Ener-G white bread. I got a free loaf when I ordered a case of Wylde pretzels(which are wonderful by the way) and it was NASTY. My kids used some of it one day to stick some birthday candles in and "roast" marshmellows indoors. My friend came over and asked... -
ARCHIVED Hi, New With Symptom Q
gf4life replied to Misa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Everyone has a slightly different reaction, and it takes a different amount of time for everyone. But it is possible to have a reaction within an hour or less of consuming gluten. God bless, Mariann -
Okay, I've never done this before, but figured it would be a great outlet for me to be able to talk about all the little things that come up when no one is around to chat with.I am still recovering from an incident that occurred Friday, two weeks ago. I am on the tail end of the recovery from a gluten incident and the irritable intestines are getting back...

ARCHIVED New Poster To The Board
gf4life replied to melly's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Blue Diamond Almond Milk is awesome. We (all 4 of us on the gluten-free diet) were dairy free for over 1 year, and this was our main milk substitute. The chocolate is so good the kids would drink it all day long, and the plain is good for cereal and cooking. The plain takes a bit of getting used to the almond aftertaste, but the chocolate is like smooth... -
ARCHIVED Went In For Follow-up
gf4life replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is a personal choice, but a good idea to replace the things that are impossible to get every speck of gluten out of. A toaster oven is easier to clean that a toaster, and if you use a new pan or foil lined pan, then it should be okay. Do NOT place your food directly on the rack that you have used for gluten foods though. Spoons and cutting boards... -
ARCHIVED Is Gluten Intolerance Celiac Disease?
gf4life replied to Hennessey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My answer to this question is sometimes. Sometimes a person has Celiac Disease, but it is in the early stages and the damage is not severe, yet. Other times the person is gluten intolerant without any damage tot he intestines and that is different. But then there are also the cases of Celiac Disease where the person only gets the rash (Dermatitis Herpetiformis... -

This was never offered, and when I asked one of our dentists about it, they said that the sealants wouldn't help my childs teeth due to the area where the cavities were. The sealant only covers certain areas of the teeth. I wonder if they had went ahead and put the sealant on if it might have made a difference. Our teeth are so bad it is almost like...

ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed?
gf4life replied to nobigideas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. It is possible to have both and you would still need to follow the gluten-free diet, and do things to lessen the severity of your Colitis. Since they apparently didn't do the biopsy at the beginning of your diagnosis of Celiac they can't compare the two to see if the recent biopsy shows improvement, but a year on the gluten-free diet is plenty... -
ARCHIVED My Son's Test Results Are In....please Help
gf4life replied to parkerrmmc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The blood tests are not 100% reliable on adults, and even less reliable on kids. If you are not going to do a biopsy, then the best bet would be to try him on the diet and see if he shows improvement. If you are going to try to do a biopsy, then please keep him on gluten. All of my children tested positive on the IgG antigliadin only with regards to the... -
Open Original Shared Link This link here will take you to an online store called Licorice International. They have something like 30 kinds of gluten free licorice candies to choose from. I haven't had any from here, but others have recommended it to me. I have tried the Let's Do Organic licorice and only 2 out of the 5 of us liked them. I am...

ARCHIVED Swanson's Chicken Broth
gf4life replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, the regular is supposed to be gluten-free, but be careful which one you buy. Some of the Swanson's Broth (I believe it is their Organic line of broths) are NOT gluten-free. Make sure you read the labels. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Breadcrumb Replacement
gf4life replied to carriecraig's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can get gluten free Corn Chex style cereal at most healthfood stores (and some regular stores also carry this) it is made by Health Valley and called Corn Crunch-Ems. They also make Rice Crunch-ems. They look identical to the chex cereals, but don't have the barley malt in them. We love them both at my house! For breadcrumbs I have used dry toasted... -
ARCHIVED Juice Boxes & Rice Milk Boxes
gf4life replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am getting my information from this list, the juice list starts on page 9: Open Original Shared Link Capri-Sun juice pouches are gluten-free. They also have the new Fruit Waves that are all juice not flavored sugar water that is only 5% juice! I know a lot of parents don't like these because the smaller kids tend to squeeze the bag and accidently... -
Hi Jamie, Welcome to the board, and congrats on getting married. I agree with Vincent here. I was gluten-free for a while before having my tests run, and even though I went back on gluten I am sure it messed up my results. I would say eat the gluten-free meal and cupcake on Saturday, since you don't want to be horribly ill at your wedding, but before...

ARCHIVED Off The Pill In Late May, Dx In June, No Period
gf4life replied to carriecraig's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I went off the pill after being on it for 5 years and it took me 6 months to start having periods again. I wasn't gluten free at the time, so I don't know how much that affected my situation. It is not uncommon to be late or even skip periods when stopping the pill. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Unfit For Military Service....
gf4life replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I went over the list of medical disqualifications and oddly enough, it is the asthma and migraine headaches that would disqualify him first. Since those are actually diagnosed and his gluten intolerance isn't actually. He doesn't have celiac disease genes and he was borderline on the blood tests. He does react severely to gluten, but technically doesn... -
ARCHIVED Unfit For Military Service....
gf4life replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I actually have thought about the whole military thing a lot. My 9 year old has talked of nothing but going into the military since he was 5 years old. I am not sure they would take him, not only because of the gluten issue, but also because he has some other problems that require him to take meds EVERYDAY. I haven't mentioned my concerns too him, since... -
ARCHIVED Gf Oreo Alternative
gf4life replied to Nathansmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree! I place regular monthly orders online, and shop at only 2 or 3 locations. (Gluten Solutions, Kinnikinnick, and occasional Ener-G) This cuts down on the shipping, since the more you order the less it costs per item. these places also offer discounts and store "points" that I can redeem as a discount on my order. Another thing I do is place an...
