ARCHIVED Dr. Prager's
gf4life replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found ingredient listings for 3 kinds of Dr. Praeger's veggie burgers. They contain might contain gluten due to the oat bran in them, but if you are a celiac who tolerates oats, then it might be okay. I personally don't eat oats, but everyone is different. They also make some veggie pancakes. But they also contain oat bran. Dr. Praeger's California... -
ARCHIVED Tortillas
gf4life replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have found that it is never a good idea to buy a case of anything until you have tried it at least once. I've made that mistake before. Anyhow, if you can't find Kinnikinnick at your local stores it is easy to order it online from their website. The shipping isn't too bad if you buy a fair amount. If you are used to buying cases and freezing, then it... -
ARCHIVED Tortillas
gf4life replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had the Food for Life tortillas, and although they were a bit sticky they did not tear when I separated them. I thought they tasted okay, but they are quite thin and my burrito broke apart while I was trying to eat it. I steamed the tortilla a bit before filling it. The problem I had with them is that they mildew very quickly. I have to travel... -
We get the bars from Gluten Solutions. They are an average of 15 grams of protein a bar. We like the mint bars the best, also the Double chocolate are good. The peanut butter chocolate chip are good too. Open Original Shared Link type in the word bars in the search and a lot come up. They are almost all out of stock right now because they are so good...

ARCHIVED Low Gluten- Is It Ok
gf4life replied to Nic from Aust's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Nic, Your dietician is mis-informed. Low gluten is not good enough, it needs to be 100% gluten free for your daughter to be healthy. You are from Australia right? That is why your name is Nic from Aust. I have noticed that a lot of gluten free brands are from Australia, so you should be able to find good food choices to substitute for the gluten... -
Dragonqueen, My son Ben has that problem with his teeth not growing. He lost a tooth about a year and a half ago and after about 6 months I told the dentist I was worried about it since it hadn't started growing back yet. They ended up putting a spacer in and only now is it starting to grow back after a year and a half, only it still hasn't broken...

I use probiotics all the time now. I use a daily dose of pills at bedtime. I have not been diagnosed with an intestinal yeast problem, but I feel like I have a problem with it, and the probiotics help to reduce the painful bloating and gas. I feel worse when I don't take them. When I have to take antibiotics (and I always make sure they are gluten-free...

I asked him and he sayed, "maybe". He is thinking about it. I'll let you know what he decides (or he will). He liked your Avatar though. He thought it was cool! God bless, Mariann

ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Almond Milk
gf4life replied to frenchiemama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is really good. My oldest has a best friend who loves it so much that my son wants to buy him a case of it for his birthday present! When I would send my son over to his house I would have to send 2 boxes of it. One for my son and one for his friend (who would usually end up finishing off both!). My kids were easily going through a box a day between... -
My oldest is going into 6th grade. He will be 11 in October. I would like to get him interested in posting here, so he could talk about how he is feeling about the diet, issues at school, etc. but so far no luck. The only other person he knows in "real life" that is gluten intolerant besides his family, is a girl who is also 10 and my friend's daughter...

ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Almond Milk
gf4life replied to frenchiemama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is gluten-free. This was our main milk substitute when we were dairy free for over a year. The chocolate is wonderful. Very smooth, rich and creamy. My kids still love it. The plain is alright for cereal and baking. It does leave a slight almond aftertaste with some rice based baked goods. The vanilla tastes nasty though, don't waste your money... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Kitchen Or Not?
gf4life replied to key's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I guess we would be conscidered a "mixed" kitchen. It is almost completely gluten-free, with the exception of my husband's oatmeal, and sauces for his meat. He also occasionally gets himself some regular muffins and such when he wants a treat. He was never a big bread eater and watches closely what he eats as far as sweets and stuff. We cook his food... -
ARCHIVED Gf Restaurants In Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe....
gf4life replied to kerrera's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm planning a trip to Lake Tahoe also and have been looking for places we can eat. In the latest issue of Sully's Living Without magazine it has a list of restaurants that are "allergy friendly". It has a listing for Freshies Restaurant in South lake Tahoe. The Phone # is 530-542-3630 and it recommends calling them ahead of time to discuss your issues... -
Luchi23 accidentally reported ythis to us moderators, instead of posting it as a reply. So here it is, and please ignore my signature info for this post: Hey Bob, great pole. It is interesting to see how other newbies, and even oldies fare from time to time. I've been working on being gluten-free since August 2004 and it definatly a daily struggle....

ARCHIVED Who's Job Is It To Know What's Gf
gf4life replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Going back to the original topic here, My husband is the only one in the family that is not gluten-free. But I feel that he still needs to be aware of the ins and outs of the diet, since he is occasionally left with the kids at meal times and needs to know how to handle it. At home it is usually okay, since the kids know what to eat (before they were... -
ARCHIVED Gfcf Cheese Substitute Recommendations Wanted
gf4life replied to trying4faith's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There are lactose free choices of cheese available at most stores, and many are also gluten-free, but if you need to be casein free none of the regular cheeses made from cows milk or goats milk are going to be safe for you. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED See's Candies
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Michelle, I have tried the Tropical Source, my kids like them, but they trigger my soy allergy... Anyhow, I really want a chocolate flavored candy, not actual chocolate (I get enough of that! ). I've got to check if the Nips coffee flavored candies are gluten-free...or maybe Reisin. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED See's Candies
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am really losing my mind over this one... My husband bought a box of 30 See's lollypops from a co-worker's child's fundraiser. As far as I know they still aren't gluten-free. I don't know why, it is probably barley malt. Anyhow, does anyone know of a chocolate candy sucker or a safe butterscotch that would make me stop craving these. It is making... -
ARCHIVED Mac & Cheese Sauce Ingredients
gf4life replied to karenwinslow1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll have to try the "old fashioned" recipe. I have the problem of never getting the cheese sauce to melt right (the cheese is always lumpy) when I try to make it from scratch on the stove top. Maybe the baked version will be better...Kimberly, do you have any apporximate measurements for this. It doesn't have to be exact, just to give me an idea of how... -
ARCHIVED We Want To Open A Gf Cafe & Grocery Store
gf4life replied to mrsfish-94's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Modesto is only a two hour drive (one way) for me, and I would certainly drive that far to eat/shop at a place that was totally gluten-free! I would just have to figure it into my monthly shopping trips... Let me know when you get going. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Gfcf Cheese Substitute Recommendations Wanted
gf4life replied to trying4faith's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Philly Swirls are dairy free and all of their products are gluten free except the sandwich type treats... God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Testing Is Finished
gf4life replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lynne, All I can say is that anything is possible! You should try to be gluten-free as soon as possible (if you aren't already) and stick to it. Our bodies are amazing and have the power to heal themselves quite easily. You may never heal 100%, but maybe you CAN get rid of the walker! Just try to stay positive. I don't have any personal experience... -
ARCHIVED Tinkyada
gf4life replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Monica, I had that same thing happen to me when I made pasta salad. Tinkyada is the BEST for hot noodles, but cold in salad it left something to be desired. Don't get me wrong, I love all of their noodles, I just don't think they are the best for cold pasta salad. The noodles get hard and chewy... Wandering Hermit, I buy mine from Gluten... -
ARCHIVED Testing Is Finished
gf4life replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know that you are tired of the doctors and testing and all the poking and proding that they do, but I highly recommend the gene test from Enterolab. They check for the non-Celiac gluten intolerance genes (that Stephanie was mentioning above) as well as the Celiac genes, and it only involves a cheek swab. They will mail you the kit, you follow the instructions...
