ARCHIVED Anti-gliadin Antibody Test
gf4life replied to nobigideas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi nobigideas, Welcome to the board! I don't know specifically about the numbers since all labs seem to use a different system of calculating. But I do knoww that ANY amount of gluten is too much. And certainly enough to cause symptoms in some people. You might have to get much more strict than you have been and not go by this particular doctors... -
ARCHIVED Environkids New Cookies
gf4life replied to jaimek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for letting us know. I haven't seen them yet, but I will look for them next time I'm at Whole Foods. My kids miss animal cookies. I haven't found the MiDel ones either! God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Multiple Food Allergies
gf4life replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Kathleen, What did the doctor tell you about avoiding the foods you tested mildly allergic to? I think I would probably try to cut out the eggs and pepper, but I think it is common to not necessarily totally cut out the other allergens, but to rotate them, so you are not eating them too often. I've been wondering how you have been doing since you... -
ARCHIVED Degrees Of Gluten Intolerance?
gf4life replied to scoutfinch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ianm, I agree with everyone here about getting used to this new way of living. The longer you do it, the easier it will seem. I think at first (and occasionally latter on!) we have reason to be paranoid and freak out about gluten! I have been gluten free (for the last time) for about a year and a half, and last month my husband switched from oatmeal... -
ARCHIVED Does Neg Test, But Dq2 Gene Mean You Must Be Gf?
gf4life replied to minivanmama0300's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There should have been an interpretation of the results included in the e-mail. It most likely is an error at their end, and the e-mail was sent before the interpretation was made. Below the Molecular Analysis for the genes it should also have listed the Serologic Equivalent (ie: DQ2, DQ3, DQ8, etc.). I would keep e-mailing them about it until you get... -
ARCHIVED Thank God, They Found My Problem At Last!
gf4life replied to celiac3270's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Everytime I've been there with my kids there have been small babies there bafore us for the same tests! I am amazed that they can get the babies to drink bottles full of barium and then get them to hold still enough for the x-rays. They have told me that since the babies have to be without food for a while before the tests that they suck down the bottle... -
ARCHIVED Thank God, They Found My Problem At Last!
gf4life replied to celiac3270's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter (almost 5 at the time) and my son who was 7 then, thought the x-ray table was fun. They had their tests done only a few days apart, but only my one son had the small bowel follow-thru. My daughter was only having the upper GI done for vomiting and reflux. I was glad that my son was not as bored as I was! He was having fun, so it made it much... -
I get cramping in my lower abdomen too when I get gluten. I used to get it from dairy, but not anymore. It feels different that the pelvic pain I get. It feels more like my intestines are so swollen and tender, and the cramping seems to come on more when I have the increased amount of gas from the gluten contamination. I can tell the difference between...

I have that pain too. I have had multiple ultrasounds to check for cysts and problems. All of them negative. I was told 10 years ago that my uterus was tipped the wrong direction, but none of my doctors since seem to think my uterus is in the wrong position. They tell me it isn't prolapsed, but I swear it feels like it is falling out half the time! I...

ARCHIVED Soft Serve Ice Cream Ingredients?
gf4life replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My kids have been bugging me to take them to McDonald's for a sundae, now that they are back on dairy. Anyone here eat the ice cream at McD's? I know it says the sundae is safe on their gluten-free list, but I would like some input here to reassure me. I have a list that says Dairy Queen is safe too, but our local DQ went out of business two years... -
ARCHIVED Thank God, They Found My Problem At Last!
gf4life replied to celiac3270's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My younger son had the small bowel follow-thru over a year ago when he was 7. He thought it was fun, since he got to choose between a chocolate and strawberry "shake" and then he got to "ride" the x-ray table that went up, and down and then tilted to where he was standing! He would do it again in a heart-beat! My older boy has been having some problems... -
ARCHIVED Confused By My Results
gf4life replied to skbird's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I guess some people have been denied health insurance due to the diagnosis of Celiac. which doesn't make sense to me, since they will be healthier if they follow the gluten-free diet. I mean would the insurance rather have people who were not diagnosed and have to pay for all the resulting illness and complications?!? Well for me some disadvantages... -
ARCHIVED Confused By My Results
gf4life replied to skbird's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Sally. After 5 months gluten-free you are still producing some antibodies. If you had symptoms that went away when you went on the gluten-free diet, and they return if you eat gluten, then that added to the gene test result and the high end of normal antibodies, should be an answer for you. How do you feel if you eat gluten? Do you get... -
ARCHIVED No Diagnosis - Still :( Please Help
gf4life replied to trying4faith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you can get it, try Tinkyada brand brown rice pasta. Follow the cooking direction exactly and your son probably won't be able to tell the difference. My kids love it and it is almost the exact same texture as wheat pasta and has a really good taste. I've served it to many non-gluten free people and they didn't notice the difference. Also you should... -
ARCHIVED Hardwood Smoke
gf4life replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, the liquid smoke I have is water and natural hickory smoke concentrate. it is made by Wrights and they say it is gluten free. It is used as a flavoring for smoking meats and as long as it really is just water and smoke from hardwood, then it should be fine. Do you have the company info for the salmon that you could check on it. Or if it came from... -
lizjay, how long have you been gluten free? It can take a while to heal. Once you start the diet and you start the healing process your body is using a bit more energy for healing and that could be making you more tired. Tiffany's suggestions above are also excellent. Make sure that you are giving yourself plenty of time to rest during the day and getting...

ARCHIVED Are Oats Gluten Free?
gf4life replied to lizjay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Grits are gluten-free. They are made from corn (hominy actually, which is a large kernel corn). Make sure they are plain though, or that the flavored grits don't have gluten in any of the added ingredients. We don't eat oats either. Not worth the risk of contamination. We have tried McCann's Oats (which are generally recognised as being the least contaminated... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In
gf4life replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Stephanie, Did you e-mail the lab or Dr. Fine? I have found that Dr. Fine will clear up any problems that you have if you e-mail him directly. His e-mail is on the site, but you have to look for it. If you e-mail the lab they hardly ever respoind and it is not prompt! Dr. Fine has always gotten back to me within 24 hours if it is a weekday, the following... -
ARCHIVED Help Keep Phillyswirl At Sams!
gf4life replied to ising2praizehim's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Costco sells them here in California, but they only stock them during the summer! I can't find them anywhere the rest of the year. They also only sell the pops, and not the cups. My kids want the cups. Does anyone know of other stores that might sell them in California? I guess I'll have to check out there site again. I am on their e-mail list... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In
gf4life replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lesliean, I'm not really sure what you are asking. You do have gluten sensitivity genes, and you feel better on the gluten-free diet, but you aren't sure that you should be on the diet, or if your children should be tested? Is that it? I was confused by the statement about the articles you have read, but regardless this is what I have to say.... -
ARCHIVED My York Results
gf4life replied to Melanie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Melonie, Your soy allergy is most likely IgE mediated. I also get itchy when I eat soy. My soy allergy was discoverd when I had some RAST food allergy tests done. I was eating a lot of soy at that time and would get itchy every few days, but I couldn't figure out why. Now even the smallest amount of soy sauce (gluten-free of course) or soy protein... -
ARCHIVED Medical Books On Celiac Disease
gf4life replied to buluga's topic in Publications & Publicity
I haven't heard of these two books you mentioned, but I have added my favorites to the list that is found in the above link. They are: Dangerous Grains by James Braly and Ron Hoggan Wheat Free, Worry Free by Danna Korn I heard recently about a new book out by Jax Peters Lowell also. I can't quite think of the name right now though. God bless,... -
ARCHIVED Is Librax Gf?
gf4life replied to mela14's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't just assume it contains gluten. I would call the manufacturer if I were you. Levsin is on the gluten-free med lists that I have, but if they give you migraines, then I don't think it would be worth taking again! God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Is Librax Gf?
gf4life replied to mela14's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use three different lists for deciding which medications are safe for my family. Here are the links to them. I usually check all three lists and go with what is on at least two of the lists. They are certainly NOT complete lists and if you have a medication that is not listed on them your best bet would be to call the manufacturer. If you can't find... -
ARCHIVED Guess How Long I've Had It!
gf4life replied to buluga's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I'm 33 and I have had symptoms that I've known about since I was 4, and probably since I was a baby. I would still say since you were a baby. So my guess is about 30 years! God bless, Mariann
