  1. If you passed a clot and some bright red blood, that would indicate it came from the colon or rectum(lower part of the intestines). You could have a hemmorhoid, or you could have a couple of other issues going on. (Crohn's, diverticulitis, polyp, or an AVM [bleeding vein])from going to the bathroom a lot or straining to go. Don't panic, but go to your Dr...
  2. You may just need to heal more. Have you had your vitamin/mineral levels checked? Suppliments work wonders. When I went gluten-free I kept getting extreme fatigue every once in a while. I was keeping a food log and was able to see that soy was causing the tired feeling. It was like being drugged the day after I consumed it. Are you keeping a food...
  3. I say A too. While there are false negatives with the blood work, I've never heard of a false positive. You may have been off gluten long enough for villi to heal, or there could be damage outside of the range of the scope, or samples were taken from the wrong area. I'd say consider yourself Celiac and stay completely gluten-free.
  4. I wondered how others store this bread. I ate some while it was still warm, but saved the rest until the next day. Then I sliced it up and put it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. Once I thawed a couple of slices it wasn't as yummy. Will still be good for grilled cheese or french toast though. I just wondered if there's a better way of keeping...
  5. Your various pickle mixes sound interesting Simona. I've never tried to pickle any other vegetables other than cucumbers. I'm going to have some green tomatoes. We are going to get very cold weather here tonight, so the tomato plants will be killed. I usually just bring the green ones in and set them on the windowsill in the sun room to ripen. ...
  6. First, if you are still consuming gluten ask your Dr. to run a Celiac panel. Once you go off gluten tests won't read accurately. Some people need the official DX to stay on the diet without cheating for the rest of their lives. If your Dr. wants to order an endoscope to look for damage, that must be done while still consuming gluten too. If blood tests...
  7. I thought I would add..make sure you are taking a good calcium suppliment daily. If I forget mine my joints ache. I have osteopenia from malabsorption. Soy also causes me bone pain. Sometimes it feels like someone hit the back of my hand with a hammer if I eat it without realizing.
  8. You may be deficient in calcium? That effects sleep, as does being low on B6. Suppliment! Try a gluten-free melatonin suppliment an hour before bedtime. It has helped me a lot! I also had the habit of using a high intensity lamp for doing needlework or reading in the evening. I found it best to turn it off and have the room darker for about an hour...
  9. I'm gluten-free and soy free. I don't like to cook much. When I do cook I put extras in small containers and freeze them for other days. You can make batches of: stews veggie soup chicken and rice soup bean soup pork fried rice stuffed peppers with ground beef, rice, tomatoes meatloaf (use Rice Chex as the bread crumbs) ground turkey meatballs...
  10. Lunches may be a problem if she doesn't want to pack one? Back in the "olden days" when I was in high school we could get a large chef's salad instead of the regular lunch. I don't know if they still have that option? Snacks: Rice Krispie treats made with gluten-free Krispies refried beans and tortilla chips(mission brand and some others) popped corn...
  11. I used to have D. After eating some foods I'd get "hurricane gut" with rumbling and gurgling and knew I'd better get to where a potty was near by. It became worse after a colo/rectal cancer surgery where most of my rectum was removed. That means I have no "storage tank". Normal for me became going numerous times a day, small amounts. If I ate something...
  12. I'm so sorry they got ya! I don't feel safe eating anything I haven't made myself. It seems when you first go gluten-free you aren't as reactive to cc because your system is tired from fighting the gluten you were getting on a regular basis. As time goes on those immune "soldiers" are rested up and even a small trace will have them up and fighting...
  13. Thanks for the input on the salt. The Kosher I bought seems just a little more coarse than regular salt. I thought canning salt was basically salt with no additives that might make brines, etc. cloudy? I'm going for it! LOL
  14. I'm one of those that had normal blood tests, but have Celiac. I had easily visable damage when my endoscope was done. If your daughter has Celiac disease, the tips of the villi that digest lactose may be gone? It would make her have problems with dairy. OR it could be that her problem IS dairy. If you want to push for an endoscope she will have to be...
  15. If you stopped eating gluten and go to see a GI they can't really do anything for you. You have to be eating gluten and plenty of it for an endoscope to show damage. I just met with a dietician and she recommended probiotics because they help heal the damage you may have in the intestines. I've started taking them and haven't noticed any difference...
  16. It's possible you have a secondary intollerance? I found soy bothers me. We went to an outdoor festival this past weekend. I thought I could get the kettle corn, but when I asked what kind of oil they were using it was soy. So I couldn't have it. Since both of the foods you mentioned bothering you contained corn ingredients, that might be a problem...
  17. I guess the best advice I can give you is to be truthful with your GI. If he/she doesn't agree with the other Docs you've seen about your DX..maybe it's time to get a different one? In any case..you don't need a GI to tell you to be gluten-free. If the gluten-free diet works to ease your symptoms stick with it. AND don't do "gluten light". Be truly gluten...
  18. I use Benedryl(at bedtime) along with Melatonin(an hour before bedtime) if I'm having a bad night. For me, insomnia means I got some cc somewhere, so be sure you're not getting a small dose somehow? Also, be sure to take a calcium and multi vitamin suppliment. Low calcium can cause insomnia and a B6 deficiency can as well. I'm sure there must be other...
  19. If you are really gluten-free and still experiencing these issues you may have a secindary food intollerance? Also, neurological symptoms seem to take longer to heal so it really could be that you've not fully healed yet. I recommend keeping a food log. Write down what you eat and any times you are feeling your symptoms more strongly. Remember that it...
  20. I had negative blood work, but positive biopsy. There's a 30% false negative in the blood tests. Check some of the medical info sites for this and make a print out of it. Push for the tests you need. That being said, if the Docs won't give you the tests you can still go gluten-free.
  21. I have 2 sons that are in their 30's and have symptoms. When I told them they should be tested they both said no. The older one even agrees that he *probably* has it! I see signs in my hubby too and he refuses to be tested. He has other auto-immune diseases too, so it's not out of the question. I guess the best we can do is to tell them and point...
  22. I just bought a box to make Krispie Treats. Haven't made them yet. I don't eat much cereal now since I ave a lot of damage and milk will upset my system. From the ingredient lists I've read I think the brown rice keeps it's firm texture better..and may be a bit more nutritious? It's used a lot.
  23. There were several things on the Dr. Oz show that weren't right. One was that we can't lick stamps or envelopes. There were others too. Have your hubby check out the info on the Celiac.com site. There's a lot of CORRECT info here. Best wishes to you. It's not easy when you're dealing with this disease AND don't have support from your spouse and family.
  24. Thanks so much for posting this. There are a couple of pages I'm going to print off for my disbelieving Dr.
  25. When my husband and I went shopping for the KA flour he picked out an artisan bread(gluten one) from the bakery. I was going to make a pot of vegetable soup and we could both have bread and butter with it. When my bread came out of the oven it looked beautiful and I was hopeful. I waited for it to cool for a while and placed it in a plastic bag while...
