ARCHIVED Dealing With Relapse
Bubba's Mom replied to jumpingjuniper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can see how such a big change in your life could get your system upset enough to think it wasn't gluten. Everybody is different, so it's hard to say if two weeks later you're feeling the effects of a glutening, or if you're still being cc by something? Two weeks wouldn't be unusual. It's possible that your kitchen could have hidden gluten from whomever... -
ARCHIVED Kitchen Gadgets
Bubba's Mom replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had cast iron pans years ago. I got rid of them when non-stick came along. The iron ones were so heavy and they seemed to need more upkeep? Once DXed, I got rid of the non-stick and replaced it with several cast iron pieces. I LOVE them now! If you know how to care for them they are wonderful. You can brown meats at a higher temp.(I know I was cooking... -

Check your shampoo, lotions, cosmetics, etc. for gluten ingredients. You may also be getting a very low dose of gluten from something in your kitchen, a family member, or pet? If you have the skin form of Celiac (DH)iodine can keep the antibodies active in your system, so try to omit it from your diet too. DH can take a while to heal even after being gluten... -
ARCHIVED I'm The 1st Diagnosed With Celiac
Bubba's Mom replied to RVluvin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm the only one DXed in my family, and I have a sister with Crohn's. We are the only ones with official DXes and find it odd that we are the only ones with genetic diseases in the family. However, there are Aunts and Uncles, Parents, Grandparents,(all gone now) and cousins with symptoms that would be consistant with Celiac. They were never tested and had... -
ARCHIVED Got Careless - Paying The Price
Bubba's Mom replied to kitgordon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This far after ingesting the gluten the best she can do is drink a lot of water and wait it out. A glutening can cause depression to become worse. Gluten sends the brain into dark thoughts, much like your Mom is experiencing. Having to be on a strict gluten-free diet can be depressing too. I get the Seasonal Affective Disorder type depression too and... -
Thanks for the info about the Endo. My current insurance doesn't require a referral, but we'll be switching at the first of the year. I dunno how that ins. works? I know our co-pay will go up. We had a different insurance two years ago which required referrals. I hated it. It's like "Mother may I" health care. You pay to go to a Dr. that says..you need...

My hubby and son still eat gluten. Like you, sometimes I make extra meat or have an ingredient set aside for another meal. More than once I've gone to get the item from the fridge and it's gone! I've come to learn that they don't think about food like we do. They don't have to plan things days ahead like we do. They don't seem to realize that we are limited...

ARCHIVED 3 Weeks - No Difference
Bubba's Mom replied to granolagal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I was DXed about 4 months ago I was led to believe all I had to do was stop eating gluten and I'd feel great. My extreme nausea after eating calmed down, and I don't get as bloated, but I still had/have a lot of symptoms. I started a log of everything I eat and any symptoms, recommended to me by the good people here that have been through this.... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerence, But Not Allergic, Possible ?
Bubba's Mom replied to brakkar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have DXed Celiac. Shortly after finding out I went through the bakery section of the grocery store and my throat started to close. I was having trouble breathing. It scared me so I made an appointment with my Allergist for food allergy testing. He did the pin-prick testing and I didn't get a reaction from any foods. I asked him why I wouldn't have reacted... -
Wow..that's scary! How could the Dr. miss something that high? I'd like to get to the point where my system is straightened out. Shoving anxiety and depression meds at me are only treating symptoms. I want to treat CAUSES!

ARCHIVED Can Anybody Recommend A Good Pcp And/or Gi In The Toledo Ohio Area?
Bubba's Mom posted a topic in Doctors
I posted a request for any recommendations for a Primary Care Physician or GI in my area when I was first DXed around the beginning of July of this year. There weren't any. I was hoping maybe "new eyes" might see this and share some info? I'm especially wanting a good PCP who has at least a little knowledge of Celiac disease. -
Thanks so much for the encouragement. I guess it is what is... until it isn't? I like that answer. I've learned to ask for copies of test results. I thought if I had them the new GI could see what was tested..and what the findings were? I have a list of questions to ask him. I know if they're not written down I won't remember to ask? When I asked...

Thanks so much for your replies. I saw a dietician who didn't know much about Celiac, but she was really nice. I asked her if she knew any GIs that were experienced with Celiac because the one that DXed me didn't seem to know much, because She couldn't answer several questions I had. She didn't know what a Marsh scale was...or leaky gut. The dietician...

This Dr. questions my Dx since my blood tests was negative. The endoscope showed severe villi flattening, along with an ulceration, but she said at the age of 54 I was "too old" to get it. If I'm not able to absorb everything, I don't understand why she thinks a multivitamin is all I need? When I asked for blood tests for Hashimoto's she said she'd...

I've been having a lot of symptoms. Some are consistant with hypothyroid and some are more like hyperthyroid. I was DXed with Celaic in the beginning of july. When I went to my PCP I asked for a Hasimoto's test. She said no. She did a TSH level. She said if it was normal there's no need for any further testing. My TSH level came back at 1.14. It was ...

Since going gluten-free I've been able to go off my blood pressure meds. I kept feeling so tired in the morning shortly after taking my med. I started taking my blood pressure several times a day for about a week and it was running low. I quit the medicine and felt better. When I went to my Dr and told her I quit..she looked at the readings I had recorded...

ARCHIVED "testing" For Super-Sensitivity
Bubba's Mom replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Super Sensitive People
I can't tolrate Lara bars at all. They are mostly dates, which are VERY high on the salicylate index. If I eat them I get a heavy feeling in my belly, followed by nausea and pain. -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Turkeys That Are Gluten Free
Bubba's Mom replied to DanielleR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This will be my first gluten-free Thanksgiving. I'm just going to skip the stuffing, and use a bit of cornstarch to thicken my gravy. Otherwise..my menu will be pretty much the same as it was in the past. Christmas is going to be hard one for me! -
It's frustrating isn't it?! Get the RXs the Dr ordered. They may help to heal your upset system a bit faster? The limited diet is pretty boring, but you should be able to add more back in once you've healed. I'm like you..wanting to be healed and get on with things. I have a lot of restrictions right now too. I guess it took a while for us to be...

ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
Bubba's Mom replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just wanted to add...it seems like spices are really bothering me all of a sudden? I had pumpkin pie made with crushed gluten-free ginger snaps for the crust and it tore me up. Seven hours later I was sleeping and burped it up all the way to my nose. It stung like mad! I ate a few Tums and found I couldn't lay down flat or it came up again. I got several... -
I agree about the Magnesium and leg cramps. You may need a calcium supplement too? If you're low on calcium it causes insomnia. Melatonin helps with sleep too. A combo pill that's calcium, magnesium, and zinc might be good for you? Vitamin D is important too. With that much of a weight loss I'd venture to say you may not be absorbing nutrients very well...

ARCHIVED Life Tastes Good Again...bread Rises, But Falls...help
Bubba's Mom replied to MauiSpiritGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I hope your bread works better for you. I noticed a lot of the bread recipes ask for a little smaller bread pan. I had to get a new one, because the ones I had were bigger. That could make a big difference in the rising? -
ARCHIVED Trying To Determine How "sensitive" I Am
Bubba's Mom replied to BeFree's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just tried Boston Market for the first time on Friday. I looked the menu up online first, so I'd know what was safe. I have the extra whammy of no soy too, which restaurants sure do like to use. I told the boy when I went to place my order that I have a severe wheat allergy(so he'd take it seriously)and had gone online to see what was safe. He grabbled...
