  1. In just a few weeks (beginning of Dec.) I'll be turning 55..the double nickel as my hubby calls it. This year has been a b**ch. Along with my spiraling health and celiac DX, I had surgery for skin cancer on my face, and surgery on my hand. Rather than get bummed about what could have been..I'm saying this year was my year to get "tuned up" for my next...
  2. Some of us have negative bloodwork and ARE celiac. About 20-30% of us fall in that category. I have biopsy DXed celiac, but negative blood work. I had my allergist do the skin prick test because I wanted to know if I had other allergies or intollerances to foods, besides gluten. My skin test came back fine. No reaction to wheat. The Allergist said there...
  3. When people bring their home made foods in I think they feel rejected when you won't even try it? It would probably be best to say it sure looks good, but you have food allergies and can't try it. They think you are rejecting them, rather than the food item they brought. Usually if you have a reason like that they won't question it further. If they push...
  4. I would steer clear of the oatmeal too. It's one of the grains that they're just not sure about and most have a good chance of having cc. Maybe it's the milk product in the shake that's bothering you? If you have villi damage you will have a hard time digesting dairy.
  5. Thank you VERY much for taking the time to answer all of this for me.I really appreciate it! The way my iron test is listed is as follows.. IRON-TIBC iron 59 ug/dl (37-170) TIBC 355 ug/dl (250-450) %saturation 17 low (20-55) Ferritin 50.16 ng/ml (11-415) Earlier you asked about my folate # and I don't see that listed as a separate test....
  6. I'm so happy to hear of your improvement too IrishHeart! This will be my first Thanksgiving gluten-free. I'm going to make a box of Stovetop for my hubby and son, and the rest of the dinner will be the same as always. My hubby experimented a couple of weeks ago using crushed gluten-free gingersnaps as crust for pumpkin pie and we liked it better than...
  7. I'm thrilled for your Father's gluten-free response! Gluten affects so many things it's scary. I hope he continues to see improvement. It must feel great to have connected the dots for him?
  8. I've found that I can't tolerate soy either. I never knew I had a problem until going gluten-free and started keeping a food log. Soy oil and soy lethicin get me whereas some people can consume them with no problem, and just react to the soy protein. My soy symptoms are more like joint pain, migraines, dizziness, pain in my lower right quadrant, D. They...
  9. Thanks for your great review and meal ideas. I think instead of buying the tote system, I'd rather come and have you be my Mom.
  10. I am too. I think it's that our system is settling down? Be sure to drink plenty of water..it keeps things moving, along with plenty of veggies. I recently found that I'm intolerant to soy..it gives me D. I use that to my advantage. If things aren't happening soon enough I eat just a few M&Ms and that soy lethicin is just enough to even me out. ...
  11. It sure sounds like you were glutened? A spice or thickener in the soup may have had gluten? You'd be surprised how many people don't even know what gluten is. They may think if there's no bread in the soup it's safe? OR it could be MSG? A lot of people react badly to it, and if your system is under stress right now that could be the cause? Restaurants...
  12. Ditto what SaintMaybe said! The Prozac may just help balance out a chemical imballance and have you feeling closer to normal? I'm glad that you were honest with the Dr. about how you're feeling. If the Prozac doesn't seem to do the trick for you..speak up. There are many different meds out there and they aren't "one size fits all". Today I went to...
  13. So sorry for any confusion I caused ..mine was the NG/ML measurement. I wish these tests were all standardised. The fact that different ways of measuring are used gets me all confused.
  14. I don't see folate listed in my tests. I wasn't taling B12 as a separate suppliment, but it's included in the b complex I was taking at 75mcg (1250% of daily requirement) *note the measurement listed in the article Skylark posted is not the NG/ML..it's a different measure. Cut those numbers about in half to get the equivilant to the NG/ML.
  15. I'm so glad to know you're in the early stages. Treatment will still be a tough thing to go through, but at least they have a treatment plan worked out for you. Please keep in touch when you feel like popping in? We're all rooting for you!
  16. You poor baby! It sounds like so much is bothering you. I know food starts to feel like the enemy and you don't want eat. You really should eat more than twice a day though. Eat small amounts, more often. Take a look at the GAPS diet. It's designed to heal the gut. Once healed you can eat more of a variety. One of my hardest things to give up...
  17. So many symptoms your son has could be gluten related. You have to keep him on gluten until the tests are done. With that said, no matter what the test results are, have him go completely gluten-free. Some people test negative for Celiac, but have it. OR he could be gluten intolerant? Very hard to test for that other than eliminating it for a while then...
  18. I'm SO happy for you AVR! Soo..nobody can call you a dizzy blond? LOL Thanks for sharing your story. It gives those of us still on our journey to wellness so much hope. I'll bet the Drs wouldn't have figured all of this out? Most don't seem to think that gluten can give neurological symptoms. I get those symptoms from soy. It took a while to...
  19. Without knowing what was tested, it's hard to say what that number is? It could be your antibody level. If it is..that is a high reading. If your Dr says it's Celiac..it is. There aren't false positives..just false negatives. Ask your Dr. if he will be doing an endoscope. If so, you should stay on gluten until it's done. If not..you have your DX. No more...
  20. With those symptoms it's hard to tell isn't it? You never know if you got a little dose of gluten from an ATM, door handle, handling money, mail, etc. I guess we'll always wonder when something gets us and we know we've been careful? Drink lots of water to flush out whatever it is..and wishing you a speedy recovery!
  21. Your journey into food intolerances is amazing. Thanks so much for sharing your story. It really reinforces the importance of a food journal and elimination diets. I don't think there's any Dr that would have figured all of this out? You would have been labeled as a hypochondriac? Several of the things that you reacted to wouldn't be too hard to avoid...
  22. Weakness around the diaphram? Could that be why I get hiccups so often? It was noted in my CT scan that I had a hiatal hernia. I wonder if that enters into the weakness too? I had been eating Tums quite a bit when that blood was drawn. My Dr kept telling me there was nothing wrong me..eat Tums! When I go to the new GI in December I'm going to...
  23. Thanks for the links to those reports SkyLark. I appreciate your taking the time to find the links and post them. The last link has a paragraph that explains why I have taken a supplement for several years now. "Two characteristics of cancer cells are lack of differentiation (specialization) and rapid growth or proliferation. Many malignant tumors have...
  24. I agree 100% on getting copies of your tests results. You'd be surprised how many times people have tests that show they have a problem and the Dr. dismisses it. Ask your Dr. if a celiac blood panel was done. If they didn't test for it (most Dr.s still think of Celiac as being rare)they won't find it. You could also be gluten intollerant? Very hard...
  25. CC is tricky. In the meal you had..the onions could have been cooked on a griddle that also had made a grilled cheese sandwhich? That could get you. Lettuce could have been cut on a cutting board that had bread cut on it,the seasoning could have had a wheat ingredient. Some do, some don't. The gluten free chips could have been cooked in a deep fryer that...
