  1. Many of us have other food intolerances. I haven't improved much on the gluten-free diet and have noticed I'm reacting to soy in a big way. I was just re-scoped and was found to have a lot of damage still in my villi, even though I'm am hyper vigilant about not consuming gluten. It turns out other food intolerances can cause villi flattening too. Maybe...
  2. The genetic tests can cause more confusion. I had negative Celiac blood tests, but a very high positive Dx after having an endoscope. Going gluten-free hasn't fixed all of my issues, and now I'm getting reactions from more foods that never bothered me before. I had a rescope and the genetic blood test done to make sure we're on the right path. The rescope...
  3. Don't cheat Deltron! A pizza place is a danger zone. There's flour that goes airborn and settles on everything. Your friends won't take your diet seriously if it appears that you can can go off and on it? PS..I kind of like a guy with long arms. You'd be handy for reaching things on the top shelf of the cabinet.
  4. I guess people that haven't had to go through this stuff just don't get how life altering and consuming it can be when you're looking for answers? When you need support..come here. You're among friends!
  5. I'm right there with you! I'm not feeling better and spend most of my time reading and researching, and looking for answers. I feel like I'm fighting for my life right now..and slipping backwards. I'm getting more and more reactions from foods. I've looked into various restricted diets, and tried a lot of things. My husband doesn't want to hear it. I...
  6. Sounds like lots of fun?! My son's persona was a gypsy, so I was able to make his garb without killing my budget. We went to a drum circle around a campfire at one of the events and it was blast. I can just picture the guys in the parking lot. What must passers-by think?
  7. It can all be a bit overwhelming at first can't it? If we just went gluten-free and felt fine we wouldn't have to use ourselves as a science experiment! If you're not sure what to eat, may I suggest the Specific Carbohydrate diet? You can find info online or get the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle". The diet is aimed at healing the gut..and that's what...
  8. My soy symptoms started out as gas, then progressed to D, followed by achy joints/bones, and sometimes migraines, depending on what form I ingested and how much. As time has gone on I react more strongly. I get lower left quadrant pain, IBS, migraines, nausea, severe achy joints, and most recently I vomit up whatever it was hiding in. I found it in trace...
  9. I tested negative to Celiac, but my endoscope showed severe villi flattening and a duodenal ulcer. I was DXed based on that. Since going gluten-free I've found that I'm hyper sensitive to soy. I've read that soy can cause villi flattenng too, so it has me wondering if my problem is really soy, with a gluten intolerance due to damage in the intestine? A...
  10. Hmmm, now my own would be: get back to painting and making art like a normal person is supposed to do, I kind of stopped this past summer due to being yickly and too busy and tired at work, but feeling better now so am getting riled up again. Visiting my sister and her DH in New Mexico and painting a desert landscape or two, taking most of my vacation allotment...
  11. Thanks so much for the lectin link! I've been following a sctrict gluten-free diet, but my health hasn't improved. I've noticed increasing sensitivity to soy. A recent scope showed I still have some severe villi flattening. I asked if soy could be the cause and was told it shouldn't cause the kind of damage that gluten does. This article seems to suggest...
  12. I know you've asked for bread recipes..but most gluten-free bread is more like a batter and don't need the hook. I understand your wanting to play with all the gadgets on your new Kitchenaid. They're fun! Why not use that dough hook to mix up a meatloaf..or meatballs? You can use gluten-free bread crumbs or smashed up Rice Chex for the filler.
  13. Some people go through a difficult withdrawl period. I'm reading a book right now called "Wheat Belly", which I got from the library. It explains why wheat is so different from what it was originally, (genetic engineering) and why it causes bad reactions in people. It explains how people get addicted to wheat and the withdrawl many go through. Just know...
  14. I've heard of false negatives for Celiac (I had negative blood work) but not false positives. Your symptoms sure could be Celiac..or at least gluten intolerance? Since getting another scope is out of the question for now, and your GI seems kind of clueless..why not go gluten-free and see how you feel? You must go completely gluten-free..not gluten-free...
  15. If you are suspicious of soy, be careful. It's in even more things than gluten! I got to where I am reacting to soy more and more. I found it used in supplements..especially as the source for vitamin E. Look out for tocopherol...can be soy or wheat derived. I've been getting nauseated after taking my calcium supplement. I was told to take calcium with...
  16. Low B1(thiamin) can cause those symptoms, along with folic acid deficiency, or iron deficiency. Have you had any blood panels run recently? It's fine to supplement the B vitamins and folic acid..(and maybe a good idea because gluten-free foods aren't fortified with vitamins like gluten foods), but you shouldn't supplement iron unless you know you're anemic...
  17. Thanks for the dosage info! I'm going to a new PCP on Monday. I'm going to ask what he thinks about a trial of stopping the Protonix and starting Zantac.
  18. Yay for being done with chemo!!! Your attitude is inspiring.' Rock that blond wig! LOL
  19. When I saw the report from my first scope I was surprised to see NSAID use as a possible cause for damage. I don't use them. That made look at foods with a high salicylic acid content. I've omitted most from my diet, and limit those that I haven't cut out entirely. I've been on Pronix for GERD for years, and it never seemed to bother me? Whatever is going...
  20. Thanks for sharing your story. Since I react so much stronger to soy than gluten , and all of the blood tests are negative for Celiac, I was wondering if soy was the problem in the first place..and I started reacting to gluten because of a damaged intestine> I know it's usually the other way around. I'm just trying to understand why I keep getting worse...
  21. I got a DX of Celiac in late June. My blood test was negative, but an endoscope showed severe villi damage, along with ulceration in my duodenum. After my scope the GI said she suspected Celiac disease. The biopsy seemed to confirm that, but also said "findings show architectural features characteristic of Celiac disease, but neturophils appear increased...
  22. Once I eliminated gluten from diet I felt better, but only for a short while. I was getting migraines,D, achy joints, reflux, off balance, pain in my lower right quadrant. I was keeping a food log and as I tried to figure the puzzle out it seemed soy was causing me problems? At first I could tolerate soy lethicin and some soy oil, but became more and more...
  23. I've had 2 minor surgeries since being DXed 6 months ago. I didn't have any issues with the disolving stitches..or the ones that had to removed. Healing can be greatly affected by your vitamin/mineral levels. Being slow to heal would suggest you may need zinc?
  24. Thanks so much for this recipe! We had this dish at an ethnic festival. I didn't know the name. I tried to make a version of the stew, but just served it over plain rice. I'm looking forward to trying the real recipe.
  25. There isn't any gluten in the kraut, could just be a coincidence? I have a book here called "Recognizing Celiac Disease signs, symptoms, associated disorders & complications" I recommend this book very highly. In it, you can look up any symptom and it tells which vitamin/mineral you're low on and tells which foods contain it. Or you can get a gluten...
