  1. Most of us make mistakes in the beginning, so don't be too hard on yourself. Those mistakes remind us to ALWAYS read the ingredient lists. At least you get symptoms when you get glutened so you know something "got you"? Drink a lot of water to help flush out your system.
  2. Hello...and welcome! When I was referred to a dietician she had very limited info on Celiac. She mainly advised diabetic patients. You will be a great help to those needing a bit of guidance.
  3. I looked up the Dr. I'm scheduled to see. She's female..and in Florida. The phyician's assistant that was supposed to do the referral and get my records faxxed, etc. totally screwed up. I DO need to check to see just WHERE she sent my records! She said she sent 26 pages. There is supposed to be the referral and a cover letter from the Dr., along with test...
  4. Soo...We made all of our travel arrangements and booked the hotel for Rochester. We were happy to get a hotel with a kitchenette. It sounded like a nice complex there too? I was feeling even more comfortable about the trip after knowing how it went for Aly there, with easy access to so many things. In today's mail I got a pre-registration packet from...
  5. These stories are SHOCKING! My heart goes out to anyone that has to deal with these ridiculous red tape companies.
  6. I got an RX for Zofran. It helps some. I'm not sure what I should be doing about Probiotics while taking antibiotics? I stopped taking them because I thought it's just adding more bacteria to be killed off..and the dying cells emit toxins? I thought I'd add them back once I'm done with the poison.
  7. Thanks...I found it right away by typing in Dutch gene study. Very interesting. My ancesters were mostly...Dutch!
  8. I feel weak, but can still eat. I was told to eat at least 1800 calories a day. If I could do that...I wouldn't be going to Dr.s! I'm making sure I eat a bit of protein with each meal, and no junk food. I'm making sure I drink lots of water too. I was just started on an anti-biotic. It causes nausea.
  9. Thank you Nora! I'll check these out. I'm thinking I'll need to have some science to back me up on the genetic thing? I was told my genetic result was negative for Celiac, even though the report said equivical.
  10. I had this most recent scope 6 months from the first. After the procedure he said he saw obvious scalloping of the intestine and suggested I might have refractory sprue? He seemed to think I should have healed completly in that much time? Maybe he just doesn't know much about Celiac?
  11. Mushroom gave you very good advice in regards to the testing. I just thought I'd add..start keeping a log of what you eat. Note any symptoms you have. Some of us find we have more than one intolerance, and since food intolerances can have delayed reactions it helps sort out what you may react to? Many of us have problems with lactose in milk at first...
  12. What a blessing to those that need a bit of help!
  13. Having a copy of your test scores helps a lot. Being on the low side for iron can give you symptoms. It's sad, but Dr.s aren't trained in nutrition. It's an elective course, so they aren't much help in guiding you on supplements. Their training is more chemistry related. They look for what chemicals(Rxs) will ease a symptom. A lot of them don't look...
  14. It IS a bit overwhelming at first! I think you are off to a good start? Going through your pantry, condiments, and spices and getting rid of anything with gluten is a great idea. Then they won't be there to grab accidentally. I think a LOT of us are anxious about gluten and trace gluten? Many of us go through a sort of withdrawl at first too? It's a big...
  15. Pierogies!!! Thank you for posting the recipe, along with pics. I thought I'd never be able to have them again.
  16. Yay! It's fantastic to hear that you've gone from having such problems with Ataxia, to actually running! I'm THRILLED for you. It's so wonderful to get your old self back again.
  17. Just another thought..I had been on PPI medication for relux for years. After going gluten-free and soy free, I was still having a burning pain, much like you described. I also have a low functioning gallbladder, and it was recommended I have it taken out. In my search to find info about biliary dyskenesia, and what *might* help bring my function back to...
  18. One of our dogs has had allergy problems since puppyhood. He was a resue dog, and when we got him one eye was swollen shut and he had major hair loss, along with pustules on his face. He had been abused and neglected. We fell in love with the poor guy. We put him on allergy dog food right away. It was surprising to watch him come back to health from having...
  19. It's scary how mis-informed Dr.s can be? They state with authority what we have, and what the treatment should be, when in reality they don't know? I had a hysterectomy too, at the age of 33. Now I wonder if it was necessary?
  20. It sounds like you are gaining back a bit of strength? With neuro stuff it takes longer to heal. I was in an auto accident years ago and blew out all of the disks in my neck. I had to have some removed and a plate put in. Because of the discs pressing on my spinal cord I had a lot of nerve damage in my hands. Long after my incision healed and with physical...
  21. My husband travels for his job almost every week. Many times he goes out of the country. He has accumulated a LOT of hotel bonus points and the same for airlines. He looked into where the hotels were that we could use the points. He opted for the one that's about 8 blocks from Mayo, because of the kitchenette. I react to even trace amounts of gluten...
  22. Thank you BOTH so much! Nora you have given me more to look for in regards to the genes. I AM extremely sensitive to even trace gluten. When I called to get the results of my blood test I was told I don't have Celaic. It REALLY confused me, because I get such a strong reaction from gluten! It's a good thing I didn't celebrate by having pizza and beer...
  23. LOL..that Dr. really is like House! We're going to the Mayo in MN. We found a Hotel with a kitchenette so I can get a few things for meals. Cereal and coconut milk at least. I don't know if they admit people for testing? The appointment I have is considered a consultation. We're expecting the tests to be done as an outpatient? I hope they can do whatever...
  24. Oh wow Takala! I thought I had problems? I'm glad you figured out a solution. Years ago we a new septic system put in and it was a mess! Hubby found a couple of bales of wood chips in the garage. They're supposed to be for absorbing oil, but they worked to cover the area where the wheat berries are. We have 3 dogs that go in and out about...
  25. Thanks Aly. I hope they can find some answers for me. The Dr. you found is really interesting. I'm so glad you found him! I hope he doesn't have a crew that will go to my house to snoop..and he skips the part where, like House..he decides he just HAS to open my brain and poke around?!
