  1. It sounds like you have Celiac..or at least a strong gluten intolerance? With the genes in the family I think you are wise to stay gluten-free? Can you take nuts to nibble on? They're good for you and will help with the hunger that makes you want to grab bad carbs. Almonds are tasty and healthy too. The important thing is to not skip meals. Eating at...
  2. Some people find it easiest to have the whole household gluten-free. Stainless steel pans can be washed well and scrubbed. So can your dishes and glassware. You want to replace anything that's porous, like cutting boards, wooden spoons, plastic storage containers, colanders that are nearly impossible to clean well, toaster and can opener. If you have...

    ARCHIVED Insomnia

A Melatonin supplement might help too? Take it about an hour before bedtime. It's an anti-oxidant/hormone that your body makes. Sometimes you need to supplement it. A variety of vitamin deficiencies can cause insomnia too. Have you had your levels tested recently?
  4. Ok..we're not going to give up on the rice completely..maybe check the source..or cutback? We need to have something to eat! Arsenic used to be used to treat for pinworms. If we need a positive to hang onto..the rice is protecting us from pinworms? LOL
  5. It seems like getting the proper tests run..is like pulling teeth? I've been told many of my symptoms are A-typical. The Dr. I saw at JAX Mayo called me and said the stool test I requested showed I had a parasite. It's one that often accompanies other things, and isn't something they usually treat. In my case, she said I was in such bad shape she thought...
  6. Get copies of your test results. Call the Dr./specialist you will be seeing and ask if they want a copy of your records prior to your visit. If they have them ahead of time they can look them over and have a better idea of what's going on. I find your post about having pain about 2 hours after eating very interesting. About 2 hours after I eat I break...
  7. I looked it up on the list Open Original Shared Link and don't see that maufacturer listed. You'll have to call them. I had to check on a med with Mylan pharmecuticals. Since it was weekend I sent them an amail. I got a call on the following Monday with assurance of what was in the med. The list I linked to doesn't have everything listed, just those...
  8. I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with this. I agree with the others..maybe time to find a new Dr.? Maybe a set of fresh eyes and ears will get better results for you?
  9. I've had a lot of those menopause symptoms for the past 3 years. My Celiac disease went un-Dxed because my Dr. wouldn't consider that I had anything BUT menopause. I had a hysterectomy 22 years ago, at the age of 33. My ovaries were left intact though. Without menses I have no way of knowing what my hormones are doing. I was told that I should go...
  10. I've suffered from many of the same symptoms and was just "blown off" by Dr.s who didn't understand what this feels like. I was told it's *probably* menopause. The nausea after eating might be gallbladder related..or maybe you're not producing the digestive enzymes you need? Take a digestive enzyme when you eat. Also, if you are taking a PPI medication...
  11. I made the Annie's boxed with the soft cheese packet..not the dried cheese. It was good..and my gluten eating son, who is very fussy, loved it. He even asked if there were left overs later. It's a little pricey..but you're worth it!
  12. I'm so sorry for your loss. Do things that nurture you. Listen to music, read a good book, watch a silly movie. Continue on your healing path, and when the time is right, your baby will come. Don't put pressure on yourself to "start over" right away. Feel your feelings. (((hugs)))
  13. SIBO is a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Bacteria which is normally in the colon sort of "blooms" and comes upward where it shouldn't be. They usually do a breath test where they have you drink a sweet solution and test the gasses you breathe out at intervals. If they get a reading they know you have it. I'm not sure how they test for yeast...
  14. So sorry you got glutened and had to miss the show. Thanks for posting your story. It will alert others to watch more carefully. I've noticed they are putting organic and gluten free items together on the shelves. We have to continue to read labels...sigh.
  15. Crohn's can affect your digestive system anywhere from the mouth to the other end, and everything in between. My sister has had her Colon removed and it's now attacking her small intestine. It's brutal. Celiac doesn't look as bad to me? At least it can be controlled?
  16. I completely understand your frustration! When I was DXed I was told "you have Celiac disease. Don't eat gluten. Look it up on the internet." Not even a sheet of paper telling me what gluten was..or the other names it goes by. We're told we have this serious condition..but we're on our own in treating it. Your sister being Dxed before you is a blessing...
  17. My question is...are they going to do anything about it?
  18. If you think this may be an issue for you, please do ask to be tested. Tell the Dr. you want the full Celiac panel, because some don't know what tests to order. You must continue to eat gluten until your tests are done. The gene test can help tell if you carry the genes, but many who carry the genes don't have Celiac until it is triggered by something...
  19. My sister has Crohn's and her main symptom is D. It's considered auto-immune too. I guess they can tell by the biopsy if it's Crohn's or Celiac? They're both inflamatory but under the microscope they have different cells visable? There's some speculation that those with Crohn's would be wise to try gluten-free? My sister's Dr. told her diet didn't matter...
  20. I was DXed with Celiac at the end of June, and told my family. Just about a month ago I was talking to my older sister and she asked, "so you can only eat white bread"? I was shocked! I had to explain to her what gluten was and that it's in most flour, bread, pasta, and baked goods. She had no idea. I hope she never gets Celiac.
  21. I only just recently started to eat the Rice cereal due to losing so much weight, so I don't think that's my problem? The article also doesn't mention villous damage which I have a lot of. I was eating more of the instant brown rice at first, but got kind of burned out on it. Lately I've been eating more potatoes. I'm not gonna look up what they do...
  22. I was DXed with Celiac in June with negative blood tests and strongly positive biopsy. I went to a mostly whole foods diet, but still kept losing weight and felt crummy. Through a food log I realized soy was a problem for me too. I omitted every trace. Still felt crummy and losing weight. Went to new GI in Dec. and was rescoped. The initial finding...
  23. I eat Aldi's version of brown minute rice about once a week. I eat Koala Crisp cereal every day though. It's made from Organic brown rice flour. I swear..no food is safe to eat!
  24. If you need a nap..take one. Your body does more healing when at rest. There will be ups and downs..so don't get discouraged. Your good days should outnumber your bad ones as time goes on.
  25. The GI may want to do the endoscope to see if there is any damage..and document how much? A biopsy doesn't seem necessary to me if his blood tests were positive. There are false negatives..but I've never heard of a false positive. You have to decide what you feel is best. I think some Dr.s and GIs think of the tests as science..and don't seem to put...
