    ARCHIVED First Gi Doc Appt

Most GIs will want to do an endoscope. It lets them know the state of your small intestine, and can be used as a reference point in your healing. Several biopsies should be taken, not just one or two. The biopsies are then sent to a lab to be viewed under a microscope. The lab person is the one who writes a report on the findings. Whether you go to a...
  2. I would add a fish oil supplement and D. Most of us need those..even those without Celiac. I'm happy for you that you're feeling better. Keep doing what you're doing.
  3. Thanks for posting the recipe. I just got broccoli at the market and I'm going to try this! Looks yummy
  4. I've had problems with the recurring yeast/bacterial thing too. I also went on and off Diflucan like you, with the blasted stuff recurring. I was told it might be hormonal too. I haven't tried the yogurt treatment, but I've heard others get some relief with it. I thought I'd just add..coconut oil is very soothing for the itch. I keep a small container in...
  5. Are you off dairy because they're thinking it might be the cause of your villi damage..or just off lactose because you can't digest it well? It's important to know which the Dr. meant. I like SO Delicious coconut milk (vanilla is great on gluten-free cereal) as a milk replacement and they make a yogurt and ice cream too. I get them at Kroger's, so check...
  6. I went to second GI because I had SO many symptoms that weren't improving, along with a PCP that kept telling me my DX was wrong. I guess I thought a second set of eyes might be a good idea? The second GI made my DX even more questionable. He referred me to Mayo and I figured they could tell me for sure one way or the other? Nope! I DID get a new...
  7. Before my DX I got migraines, motion sickness, anxiety, and lots of digestive issues mostly. After going gluten-free my symptoms from an accidental gluten exposure changed to more neurological symptoms. I got irregular heart beats, weakness, dizzyness, and confusion. I staggered a bit when I walked, and had poor depth perception. I'd misjudge the height...
  8. I think it depends on your dishwasher? Ours is a bit older and I was noticing "stuff" on some of the dishes when I went to put them away. We checked to see if there's a filter that could be cleaned or changed and didn't find one. I just don't feel comfortable with the fact I've found food residue and that others in our household eat gluteny foods like...
  9. Umm...yep that will make it easier. Just wanted to add..if they tell you you're negative for Celiac, you may still want to try a strict gluten-free diet for a bit? Some of us test negative, when we do in fact, have Celiac. Let your body be your guide..and good luck!
  10. I think a retest of the bloodwork at 6mos gluten-free is pretty common? It's the easiest way to see if the antibodies are coming down. It's wonderful that the endoscope didn't show a lot of damage. Going forward on a gluten-free diet your daughter should feel better..and more importantly, avoid any additional health issues because of the gluten.
  11. My first thought was..maybe you have an additional intolerance? Many of us do. I also recommend going to a whole foods..not gluten-free produced versions of foods, until you know you can digest them well. Keep a log of everything you eat..and note any symptoms. Most food reactions are delayed, so having a way to figure out what you might be sensitive...
  12. I understand your fear. I think talking to your Dr. is a good idea, and be sure to ask any questions you have. I thought I should also mention, that it takes time to heal from any gluten damage you may have, so don't jump into a hasty decision about your implants based on a non-specific blood test. Maybe a repeat of the blood test would be a good idea now...
  13. It's been my experience that getting a Celiac DX isn't as easy as this article makes it sound? Most Dr.s don't even think to test for it. I hope that improves in the future. I have to say that I'm very happy with the gluten-free Rice Krispies. I grind them and use in place of bread crumbs/cracker crumbs in recipes..and I can make Crispy Treats (dairy...
  14. Sounds yummy..and easy! Thanks for sharing this.
  15. I understand wanting the Dx. It lets you put a name to your health issues..and gives you a treatment plan. Much better to know and control it, rather than go through years of ill health, lots of useless tests, and the opinions that you are a hypochondriac. The scope isn't a bad test to have. You don't feel a thing. Good luck!
  16. My Celiac blood test was negative. I was scoped though, and had severe villous flattening. The GI DXed me because of it. I also had pretty rapid weight loss, muscle wasting, numerous vitamin deficiencies, ostopenia, neurological symptoms, insomnia, anxiety etc. When I went back to my PCP for follow up I was told that he didn't agree with my DX. I was...
  17. I just wanted to mention..the gluten-free Rice Krispies are a staple in this house. I can make Krispy Treats (pretty inexpensive)and they can be ground up in a food processor( I have a mini one that cost under $8) to use as bread crumbs in meatballs, meatloaf, and things like Salmon patties. Pacific brand makes condensed soups that you can use in casseroles...
  18. Gluten can affect every system in your body. It can cause a variety of neurological symptoms, like social anxiety, unusual emotions, and various skin issues as well. Your paleness, that mentioned earlier, may be from anemia? It's not a good idea to supplement iron without having a test for anemia though. Too much can be harmful. Eat a diet rich in iron...
  19. I'll jump in and answer that one.. If you have damage to the tips of your villi from gluten..you won't b able to digest lactose. The enzyme needed for the break down of that comes from the very tips of the villi. It's just a good idea to stay away from dairy at first because of that. Yogurt and aged cheeses don't have the lactose because it's processed...
  20. I'm so sorry you are still having such a rough time. My story is very similar to yours..except I didn't get my gallbladder taken out when advised to. I'm hoping the function will improve on a gluten-free diet. I went to the Mayo in Florida and they referrd me to the Mayo in MN. I'm waiting for an appointment. There are a couple of things that have...
  21. Hello..and welcome! Yes..your symptoms could be from gluten. If you want to be tested for Celiac disease you need to stay on a gluten diet until after your tests are done. For some of us, it's better to know if we have Celiac disease so we are more determined to stay on a gluten-free diet, so testing is important. Even though you have seen many Dr...
  22. The name that caught my attention was Gluten Free Flour Garden. If someone is looking for gluten free..most of the other names wouldn't catch their attention? Without the mention of gluten free, I personally would just drive right on by rather than come in and possibly come in contact with unsafe airborn flours that could harm me. I also like...
  23. If you react to soy..you may want to check your vitamin D? I'm having a very hard time finding it without soy.
  24. Errr..what if you had chest hair..but shaved it..or plucked the hairs? LOL It's kind of ridiculous when a Dr. makes up their mind about a DX then tries to manipulate the facts to fit their theory!
  25. Your daughter's story breaks my heart. I don't understand why they didn't look for a reason why she wasn't growing. Isn't that their job...the reason why we take our babies to the Dr.s? Not doing tests because of insurance when a child is bleeding internally is insane!
