ARCHIVED Healing Neurotoxicity
Bubba's Mom replied to basilicious's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I usually make hard boiled eggs in batches of 6. They're so easy to grab and eat, or peel them and pop them into a sandwich baggie and take with you if you'll be away from home. Sometimes I get hungry and can't think of what to make. I chomp down a HB egg and then I have time to think more clearly. Want a scrambled egg in a hurry? Rub a thin... -
It sounds like she's had a rough time? A lot of us tend to equate eating with pain, but we have to eat! It's important to find safe foods that are nutricious. Fruits, veggies, non-processed meats, eggs, nuts, are all good for us. It's best to avoid milk/dairy at first. Some of her not wanting to eat can come from vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Did she have...

On March 20 I cleaned the kitchen. I wiped down the inside of the cabinet that used to have flour stored in it. I didn't eat any flour, and wore rubber gloves..but must have breathed some in? I got hyper a while later, that progressed to insomnia that night, followed by a feeling of being off balance/dizzy. I'm still feeling the off balance effects and...

ARCHIVED Which Probiotics
Bubba's Mom replied to JustNana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm taking Culturelle non-dairy and Power Dophilus. It was recommended to me to take them on an empty stomach so the acid that's released when eating food doesn't kill the little buggers off. Different brands have different directions. Be sure to follow what it says on the bottle. -
ARCHIVED Family Testing...
Bubba's Mom replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can recognize Celiac symptoms in several family members. They refuse to be tested..they don't want to know! If someone would have given me a "heads up" about gluten I would have not hesitated to find out if it was the cause of my problems. I just can't understand the logic of people burrying their heads in the sand? -
Thank goodness you finally found a Dr. that would do what was necessary to find out what was going on? Don't ever cheat! Your MIL is wrong to think that's ok. Has your hubby been tested? Now, instead of stopping at fast food places when you're out..grocery stores will be your answer. I've stopped in just buy some fruit, mini carrots, or nuts, to nibble...

ARCHIVED Itemized Deductions For Celiacs
Bubba's Mom replied to plumbago's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My hubby wants me to keep track of this for next year's taxes. I've been saving receipts, but I should probably start a spread sheet or something? Adding to the list weekly would be easier than waiting until the end of the year and having to do all of that math? I also mentioned I spend a LOT more on fruits and veggies because I can't eat the snacks... -
ARCHIVED Update...and Very Scared Now!
Bubba's Mom replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't be scared of the follow up visit. At least the Dr. didn't pat you on the head, give you an RX for anti-depressants, and send you on your way. You're getting follow up! -
I tried these once before going gluten-free. I didn't add sugar though. I wasn't sure if I liked them at first. I sat the bowl of chips on the counter and had to keep going back for more. They were addictive. LOL

ARCHIVED Healing Neurotoxicity
Bubba's Mom replied to basilicious's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The neuro issues are miserable. Unfortunately neuro damage is much slower to heal. I know your Dr. said it was neuro toxicity, but I think of both as being the same. It might be a good idea to start a detailed food log? Write down what you eat, with rough amounts of how much you've eaten, and log any symptoms you feel. By having a way of looking back... -
ARCHIVED Oh Boy...i Think I Won The Ab Lottery...
Bubba's Mom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had normal IGA levels, but since your mention of CVID(in a recent post) I looked into whether I have normal IGG levels. I found that when I was tested in 2009 (before starting allergy shots) that I was low in IGG. When I went in for my allergy shot last week I asked for copies of the blood work done in 2009. The receptionist pulled it up on her computer... -

It sounds like you're doing the right things? Only thing I would add is...have you considered the possibilty of an additional food intolerance? Some of us get those symptoms from soy or dairy. They seem to be the most common offenders? -
ARCHIVED The Importance Of Vitamins
Bubba's Mom replied to JustNana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know it seems like you're already taking a lot of supplements, but I also highly recommend a good fish oil or krill oil. They feed your brain and are such healthy fats. -

I mostly use coconut oil. I save my bacon grease too, for frying potatoes, or browning meats. I use Earth Balnce soy free spread as my "butter".

Bubba's Mom replied to mushroom's topic in Doctors
wow. That's pretty close to how I was told about my DX..except the Dr. was nice. She said "you have Celiac. Don't eat gluten. Look it up online." These Dr.s are announcing we have a disease that will change our lives forever and this is the way they deliver that news? I'm glad we both found this site! -
We Need To Start A Thread On Stupid Stuff Doctors Say!
Bubba's Mom replied to mushroom's topic in Doctors
Typical. False positives aren't very likely with blood work. The endoscope is mainly to confirm..and assess the level of villi damage. Maybe she meant the REscope wasn't usually needed after starting the diet and redoing the blood tests show that the Celiac levels have gone down(are negative)? I'm trying to give her the benefit of doubt here... -

ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's
Bubba's Mom replied to lovetapioca's topic in Super Sensitive People
I've had my share of dental work. When I was first DXed I was due for a cleaning and check-up. When I called to make the appointment I told the Dentist about my DX and asked if she could check for gluten ingredients. She was glad I mentioned it ahead of time so she could check and said there was nothing that should bother me when I went in. I just... -

I hear ya! Dress in layers because at the drop of a hat you'll have to whip off your sweater because you're sweating your arse off...keep it handy though..you'll be needing it in few minutes. They say the toilet issues are from prostiglandins. They don't just cause menstral cramps..they cause cramps in the intestine too. This stuff isn't for sissies... -
Have you had vitamin/mineral level blood tests? Sometimes a deficiency shows up with those, and supplements can help a lot. Celiac blood tests have a 20-30% false negative. Why not try going gluten-free and see if things improve for you? The neurological symptoms of Celiac seem to be slower to go away, so be patient.

ARCHIVED So Many Symptoms, Unsure About Testing
Bubba's Mom replied to Vintage River's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A lot of us think that if we're DXed, we can get help for family members that seem to have Celiac symptoms. Many of us find that our family members don't want to be tested. They'd rather go on with their symptoms..and eat whatever they want! ( I have a sister with Crohn's who got mad when I suggested she try gluten-free to see if it would help) Do what...
