ARCHIVED Interesting New Research On Corn
Bubba's Mom replied to Skylark's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I started reacting to gluten-free corn based granola and fritos. I've dropped corn for now..but it seems like corn is in most medicines and supplements? I haven't stopped those. Isn't dextrose and caramel color made from corn too? -
ARCHIVED Asking For Guidance In Taking Vitamins And Minerals.
Bubba's Mom replied to JustNana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess we are each different, just find what will work for you and do the best you can? I take any "oil" type supplements(D3, Cod Liver, Krill, E) in the morning because I have a cup of coffee first and I figure the acid will help them digest? My gallbladder isn't working right right now. I eat something small and then take the probiotic about... -
ARCHIVED Igg Testing -Recent Article Questions Reliability
Bubba's Mom replied to IrishHeart's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I found the article interesting too. I've seen several tests offered that are supposed to tell your intolerances, and have been tempted to try them out of desperation. Instead, I've just ordered the Fed Up book by Sue Dengate after Skylark mentioned the Failsafe diet. It tells in detail how to figure out intolerances on your own...and I think that's the... -
ARCHIVED Do You Get Symptoms After Eating Casein?
Bubba's Mom replied to GFreeMO's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I cut out dairy for a while because it seemed like I was getting gluten somehow, but I was sure I wasn't. Someone here told me to go dairy free and see if it helped. It did. A couple of days ago I used butter on a sweet potato. I got a reaction similar to my gluten one, but milder. Hyper, refux, didn't sleep that night, followed by loose stool the... -

ARCHIVED You Look 10 Years Younger
Bubba's Mom replied to IrishHeart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hmmm...at least you're not still aging? I look much older than my age right now. I got copies of my medical records because I was switching Dr.s and the new Resident assigned to me had noted that in my file, along with the previous one. My new Dr, said I looked like someone who had lost a lot of weight, quickly. I'm looking forward to that... -
ARCHIVED Went gluten-free In Support And Found Out You Had It?
Bubba's Mom replied to Jestgar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Celiac can cause gallbladder issues which would make digesting fats a problem? Sounds like my hubby is traveling up DeNile too? Honestly, my hubby is constantly complaining about various symptoms..and I just don't know what to say anymore?! They all fit with Celiac. -
ARCHIVED At My Wits End. Pain!
Bubba's Mom replied to GFreeMO's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
According to an article I found on the site here, dairy can cause villi flattening, which would give you the same feeling as gluten. https://www.celiac.com/articles/50/1/Main-Causes-of-Flattened-Villi/Page1.html I'm so sorry..but it looks like you may have to stay dairy free? -
ARCHIVED So What's The Deal With Lettuce?
Bubba's Mom replied to MJ-S's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I was reacting after eating salads and figured I just couldn't tolerate lettuce. It turns out I can't tolerate the soy oil that's in most dressings. Try eating just lettuce and see if you get a reaction? -
ARCHIVED Went gluten-free In Support And Found Out You Had It?
Bubba's Mom replied to Jestgar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My hubby has to eat gluten-free meals when he's here on the weekends. (He travels during the week for his job). I think he started to notice that gluten was a problem because of sometimes going several days without, then when he has it some symptoms flare? Instead of getting tested..(he has many symptoms and Hashi's,diabetes 2 and a family history of many... -
Very interesting. I've done that for years..but never knew there was a name for it. If I were to tell someone it was like I forgot to breathe..they would think I was daffy, but that's what it feels like? I have Vicodin for pain issues from a spinal surgery and for migraines. I only take it if I absolutely must..and if I'm not going to lay down, because...

ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
Bubba's Mom replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had severe damage and they put me on iron pills. I guess they're hoping for a patch of villi that might grab it? It's been slow to resolve in me, which is pretty normal I guess.for all anemics? If you're waiting until future blood tests show you're not absorbing the iron, it may take a while I think? I know you have other issues, and may worry that you... -
ARCHIVED Crazy Things We've Heard About Gluten? Also A Tiny Q
Bubba's Mom replied to PadmeMaster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Most people will tell you that skin contact is not going to give you a gluten reaction. However, if you're very sensitive, something like that has the potential to cause some trouble. I'm in the very sensitive category. A few weeks ago I was feeling pretty good and decided to clean out some kitchen cabinets. When I got to the one where I used to store... -
ARCHIVED More Headaches, Not Less.
Bubba's Mom replied to lucky97's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just a thought...the pollen levels the past 6 weeks or so, have been sky high in some areas of the country. Could it be that pollen is "getting" you..and the chocolate is not the cause? I'm just hoping you don't have to give up the chocolate. I had to..and it drives me crazy seeing my hubby eat it! -
ARCHIVED 1 Week Gluten Free
Bubba's Mom replied to lesliev523's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hope the Internist has a more open mind? You don't need to have a Dr. tell you it's ok to be gluten-free, but it helps a lot if they're on board. Make a list of all of the symptoms you had..and a list of what's improving. It might be helpful when talking to the new Doc? -
The diet changes that many recommend for starving off Candida seem to take months? Even with taking probiotics, which help fight the yeast. I don't have any experience to share..just thought I'd let you know to skip sugars, and starches. They feed the yeast...and it takes time.

ARCHIVED What Are You Growing This Year?
Bubba's Mom replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a very small area for planting. I used to just grow tomatoes. I'm not tolerating tomatoes anymore, so I don't know? I've found I like kale. Tried it for the first time after my DX. I wonder if I could grow that? Green beans are easy growers too? I guess I should make a trip to the garden center and see what strikes my fancy? -

ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
Bubba's Mom replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With a family history like that...I'd ask for an endoscope. I was one of the 20-30% that tests negative on blood tests. An ndoscope showed severe damage. If I had stopped at the blood test results..who knows what might have happened? -
ARCHIVED Success Stories Please!
Bubba's Mom replied to Littllemel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Unfortunately, you may not see many success stories posted? Those who have been successful in getting things sorted out and are now healthy tend to move on..and not stick around here? The ones that are doing great..just get on with the life they had before. They may drop in from time to time to say hello..or they just read a bit..or they come back if... -
I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time. It doesn't help when your family takes something that's so life changing for you as "no big deal". As far as bringing your own food, I'm afraid I'm no help there. Since being DXed nobody asks me over..and I don't go out much. There are a lot of people here with experience with that, so I hope they chime in...

ARCHIVED I Need To Complain!
Bubba's Mom replied to Littllemel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope the ND is worth it. I've never seen one. Please let us know how your meeting goes? I didn't stop losing weight until they put me on the weak steroid they use for Crohn's.(Entocort) If you continue on the way you have been..maybe you should ask about being put on it? It's not a strong one that affects your whole body. It stays in the intestine... -
ARCHIVED Question About Digestive Enzymes.
Bubba's Mom replied to Girl From Indy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I got glutened by cc in January. It made my heart throw a few weird PVC's and I got real weak..and confused. I had no idea it was from gluten at the time, I'm just guessing it was in hind sight? I thought I was having a stroke, or heart attack or something. I went to the ER and they noted the odd heart beats, but there wasn't really anything they could... -
Are you sure it's chocolate..and not soy lethicin? Just asking..hoping you can still have taste by using baking cocoa..or a sqirt of Hershy's syrup? I really miss good dark chocolate.
