  1. I get a reaction to Fritos too. The ingredients are corn, corn oil, and salt. Seems pretty obviously gluten-free..but something about them "gets" me? I had corn on the cob last night with no problems. I wondered if there was something in the way they process, or dry the corn that causes my symptoms?
  2. Some of us test negative. It can't hurt to go gluten-free anyway to see if you feel better? The stool sample confuses me. There should be bacteria in the colon, so in the stool too. A hydrogen breath test checks for bacteria in the small intestine, where it should not be. Maybe they're checking for parasites, like amoeba in the stool? I hope you get...
  3. I think it might be good to have the gluten enteropathy in your record? If you need RXs in the future, they'll know to be careful in what they prescribe, and if you are ever hospitalized it's official for food restrictions. I'm glad you've got got good medical care people to go to. I don't have that here, and I think it's really important?
  4. Your mango custard sounds very yummy! I love mangoes. What a wonderful problem to have too many. I'd cut some up and freeze for later use.
  5. I hope they find you don't have it, but at least if you know about it, it can be treated? It's a hard pill to swallow for sure! You're a tough cookie..and you've been through a lot. I have no doubts that if it turns out to be Fabry, you'll kick it's ass! That shortened life span is just an average, and as you know..there are people that don't do...
  6. There's another thing that enters into this. You may not have normal IGG levels in your blood? I kept getting pnuemonia over and over..and I've had chicken pox twice. When I went for allergy testing they ran a panel that tests your overall IGG in three areas so they know if the allergy tests are acurate. I was low in one area. I was told that's why I was...
  7. You might want to consider asking for a hydrogen breath test? It shows if you have a bacterial overgrowth. It can lead to leaky gut. It could explain reactions to foods. The GI that first DXed me had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned leaky gut and asked if it could be responsioble for reactions to foods I had previously eaten with no...
  8. At Mayo Clinic MN I was told that leaky gut, or bacterial overgrowth can cause reactions to foods. The leaky gut is pretty easy to understand, but many of us don't get the connection between SIBO and reactions. It was explained that bacteria emit toxins as they eat our foods, which are then leaked into the blood stream. So..it's not just proteins from...
  9. Congrats on getting something back! I get C and was just thinking the other day that I wished I knew of something that gave me D so I could use it to my advantage.
  10. If you tested positive..consider yourself Celiac. It infuriates me that GI Dr.s..(it's their "feild" of medicine)..can be so clueless about this disease! Some of us are told we're too old, too black, too Asian, or too over weight to be Celiac, when that isn't a factor here at all. Read around on the board and see what it takes to be gluten-free. We...
  11. I tested negative on the blood tests. I'm furtunate though, because I had severe symptoms, along with with weight loss. When I went to the GI she said she was going to do blood tests, a stomach emptying study, and an endoscope, and said if those didn't give us answers there were other tests that could be done. When my endoscope was done it was easily...
  12. I know, sometimes we have to get together when everyone's schedules line up? It makes it hard. I have a lot more foods than what I listed that are off-limits for now. I'm hoping I'll get some of those back too? So I'm gluten, soy, dairy, peanut, MSG, and yeast free. Tomato and corn occasionally and in small amounts only. The only grain I eat is brown...
  13. I get a reaction from anything from Bob's Red Mill. I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole! It's unfortunate, because the brand is very easy to find.
  14. I can't tolerate soy or dairy either. Because of that, I just don't go to restaurants. It seems like everything they make has at least one of my forbidden ingredients? AND I don't like fresh Salmon, only canned. I know from past history and relatives that have worked in restaurants that Mother's day is one of the busiest days of the year. When people...
  15. You know, I guess I never thought of the cooler being used to keep things hot? It's insulated so should work great? A heated brick is really clever! I'm going to look into the stainless steel containers. You make a good point about not putting hot foods in plastic. I don't use plastic to heat things in the microwave bcause of the chemicals, yet never...
  16. I had NO idea it was going to be such a big party. Usually in our family we just get together to celebrate the kids' birthdays by having ice cream and cake, a few gifts, a little chatting and we're off on our way. A get-together like this has perils I hadn't thought of...like "safe" fruit that may have been handled by gluteny hands, and cc cutting boards...
  17. Yesterday I went to my first family get together since DX last July. It was for my Niece's daughter's first Birthday. I thought "no big deal" I can handle being around cake and ice cream. I'll just take a Krispy Treat to eat. I am gluten, soy, and dairy free. We got there and found out it was a much bigger party than we thought. There were 80 people...
  18. What we eat affects us so much more than we're ever aware? Once you figure out whjat doesn't agree with you, and avoid it, it can be life changing? Congrats to you on figuring it out. Now..wanna come work in my garden?
  19. Yes..it's part of withdrawl. You're also mourning the loss of the diet you used to have. It gets better with time...hang in there!
  20. I couldn't work in a fast food place. I get irritated if I get questions, complaints, or distractions when cooking supper for the family. I can't imagine doing that for hours at a time! I hope the Cabela's job works out. My son worked at McDonald's and he says he never wants to work in fast food again. He also went without breaks and had to work extra...
  21. I'm DQ2.2 too. We're not looking quite so rare after all? With positive blood tests I wouldn't touch gluten with a 10 foot pole! I like the way IrishHeart worked out the numbers. Kind of gives a better perspective? My hubby doesn't understand it either, but he's seen my reactions to gluten and knows it's real. That being said though, on our recent...
  22. Yup..I'd swear something had moved a bit, but it hadn't. I woke with my heart pounding too.
  23. Most hay rides and Fall decorations use bales of straw. It's much cheaper than hay, which is a valuable feed for animals. The straw can be from oats or wheat. My hubby got a bale of straw to spread out in the yard where the dogs had made a nice batch of mud, which they were tracking in. As he spread it he noticed grain heads mixed in. He glutened our...
  24. I'm very sensitive to gluten. I recently cleaned out the cabinet where we used to store wheat flour. I wore gloves and I'm sure I never touched it, so couldn't have gotten it under my fingernails..or whatever. I inhaled it. I got a severe gluten reaction from it. I wish I had known it was possible to get "glutened" by breathing it in. I would have worn...
  25. It sounds like you might have another intolerance? Keep a log of everything you eat, along with any symptoms. Many food reactions are delayed, so a log lets you look back and see if there are patterns to the symptoms that match up with certain foods. There aren't any good tests to check for what's "getting" you. It's more a trial and error thing. Best wishes...
