  1. If you have damage in your duodenum, where the hormone CCK is made, you may not be digesting your food well? CCK tells your gallbladder to squeeeze bile and pancreas to release digestive enzymes when you eat. The fact that you are bloating would suggest your food is fermenting, rather than getting broken down as it should. Taking a dgestive enzyme supplement...
  2. I would add...D3 helps improve mood and Fish oil/or other source of Omega 3 oils. They're anti-inflamatory. Do you eat dairy? I get very moody if I eat it. Soy could cause a bad reaction too, in some people.
  3. The Dr.s that say a person needs to have DQ2 or DQ8, or it's not celiac drive me crazy! They are still resarching this. They are finding more genes are involved than originally thought. It looks like your son is a DQ2.2? Same as me! I tested negative on the blood test, but a scope showed severe damage. Completly flattened villi..not patchy at all...
  4. Have the girls been tested for bacterial overgrowth? It can cause constipation. Probiotics are very helpful. Culturelle makes a formulation for kids. If your twins were born via c-section they may not have the "good bacteria" that babies pick up while going through the birth process. Just wondered, because they're pretty young to have the constipation...
  5. I was at the Mayo clinic in May. I talked with Dr. Murry the head of the GI/Celiac dept. He said they're looking into what medications Celiacs have been on in the past to see if they can find links to Celiac-certain meds. I had been on Lisinopril but it made me cough and clear my throat a lot. I went off it because of that. My sister had even more severe...
  6. The only grain I eat is brown rice. I get gluten-free Rice Krispies and use those as bread crumbs in Salmon patties or meat loaf/meat balls. I make up a batch of Salmon patties once a week and eat them for lunches or breakfast. I like them cold so they're a great grab and go food to have on hand. I usually cook up a pound of bacon and put it in baggies...
  7. There are all sorts of things that can cause nausea. Some vitamin deficiencies can cause it. Go to your Dr. and see if an endoscope and check of your vitamin/mineral levels in order? When I was so sick before being DXed I got some ginger root and gnawed on a little piece when it got real bad. It helped. Some herbal teas with a bit of honey are good...
  8. Have you been tested for a small intestne bacterial overgrowth? (SIBO) I was reacting to more and more foods. It was crazy! I got tested and was told I have a severe overgrowth. The reactions come from toxins the bacteria emit after eating your food. It's very common in Celiacs, and those that are DXed with IBS. Probiotics are 100% neccesary for a healthy...
  9. Thanks for the link! My hubby is type 2 diabetic and consumes a LOT of artificial sweeteners. He recently started using agave in his tea (because I quit buying diet soda)with the thinking that it doesn't spike his blood sugar so should be good? With elevated liver enzymes already going on in him I'm going to get rid of his agave and get stevia. There's no...
  10. Are you taking probiotics? If you have any of the "bad" bacteria in your small intestine it can make you get reactions from various foods. As the bacteria feed on what you've eaten, they produce toxins that will give you side effects. Probiotics help keep the bad guys in check.
  11. Hello and welcome! I'm so glad gluten-free is helping you. Try probiotics for the intestinal spasms. With regular use you should see some improvement?
  12. I got hooked on the gluten-free Rice Krispies. I can make Krispy Treats and use them as bread crumbs in meatballs, and salmon patties. I think I go through at least 2 boxes a week? My Kroger's has decided to quit cayying them. They're now at Bog Lots. I hope they don't stop making them. If they do..they probably won't bother tinkering with the Corn...
  13. You really went through a rough time for quite a while. I'm so glad to see it seems like you've turned the corner and feeling better. It's so miserable to get so sick that it feels like you're circling the drain. Very hard to describe, but so wonderful when it lifts. Well done..carry on!
  14. I haven't had the occasion to go to such an event yet. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get a Dr.'s note to carry along with the food? I'm glad they didn't take your snacks. Some places are real stinkers about it!
  15. Sorry..I've been away for a couple of days, or I would have answered sooner. Digestive enzymes help break down and digest your food, so you can absorb the nutrients. I got them as an "over the counter" supplement and used them for a while. I used the mostly plant based ones and ate pineapple with meals that had very a lot of beans, meat or fatty meat, to...
  16. Putting all gluten issues aside, eating only in the evening will really mess up your blood sugar. It's not a good idea, or healthy for anyone. Is there any reason why you don't want to be testd for Celiac? It seems like you are getting reactions to gluten? If your body doesn't tolerate it, it will mess you up in a lot of ways. Why not get tested so you...

    ARCHIVED I Love My Doctor

Sounds like you have one of the good Docs? I'm glad your DD was told she'd be best being gluten-free. It seems to have "more weight" coming from a Doc?
  18. When I got my gene test results the Dr. questioned my heritage. Doesn't seem like it should matter where my ancestors were from..if they insist Celiac is DQ2 and/or DQ8? They need to make up their minds. Either it's straight up DQ2 DQ8 or "other" genes are Celiac too? I don't understand why they keep trying tp put us in "boxes"? Are they trying to skew...
  19. I think the reaction I got from removing the paper tape came from the top layer of skin being removed along with it? Then the dog with fresh gluten in his mouth licked it and it went right into my system? Very curious! The gene stuff is so odd to me. I don't understand why they keep discounting the reports of people with gluten reactions just because...
  20. Try to eat mostly whole foods, like fruits and veggies, meats, eggs. Omit dairy and soy for a while along with the gluten. It may help the brain fog lift faster? Get bags of potatoes and carrots. They can be cooked and eaten alone as a veggie, or used in soups/stews. Watch for whatever produce is on sale and load up. Same with meats. Eggs are cheap and...
  21. I've seen this topic written up before, and yet Dr.s seem to be unaware of the gluten-neurological connection? I was at Mayo Clinic MN 3 weeks ago. I saw a Neurologist for my ataxia, brain fog, cognitive impairment, speech and writing dificulty, short term memory loss, and inabilty to muli-task after inhaling wheat flour several weeks earlier. I was told...
  22. The digestive enzymes should help you a lot? Hopefully, you can add some foods back? Please let us know what they find when they test you and the treatment plan? Fingers crossed for you!
  23. I would suggest persuing the tests. Over the years pre-DX I also had "bouts" of more severe symptoms, followed by spells where I felt pretty good. Get tested, then no matter what the tests find (20-30% of Celiacs have negative blood tests) go completly gluten-free for 3 months. See how you feel. Some people are gluten intolerant and blood and endoscopes...
  24. I'm gluten-free, soy, dairy, peanut, yeast, corn,(but not corn starch), MSG free, and the cruelist part is, I hate to cook! The only grain I eat is brown rice. Sometimes I feel angry. Most of the time I'm around other people eating things I can't have I feel frustrated too. I've found as time goes on I'm dealing with it better though. If only they...

    ARCHIVED Doctors

I feel so bad for you! I have walked in your shoes. It's bad enough to have to deal with the gluten symptoms, but once finding the cause of your problems, having Docs imply that "it's all in your head" is infuriating! It's like being told you're crazy, when you actually have a disease. Unfortunately, there are many more Docs out there just like the...
