  1. Hello..and welcome from a fellow Buckeye! You're very fortunate to have a Dr. that sent you here. There's a wealth of information here that will help you in this journey. Mamaw has given you "the list" of things to look out for. If you have any questions along the way be sure to ask. Most of us are happy for our DX at first. It validates the symptoms...
  2. I wouldn't have survived this long without this forum. There's no better place to get answers to questions, and learn the ins and outs of gluten intolerance. The support here is wonderful! There is SO much to learn about going gluten-free. The pet food doesn't occur to some people..but your experience shows that it's a real concern. Thanks for sharing...
  3. I'm so glad you had a good experience! It sounds wonderful.
  4. Chebe brand mixes are available in my local grocery store. It's in the gluten-free section. They have the bun mix and pizza mix. Open Original Shared Link I've heard a lot of people really like their mixes, but I haven't tried them yet. A mix might be a good way to try the breads? You wouldn't have to invest in a large bag of the flour to try it...
  5. Most Dr.s aren't trained in nutrition. It's an elective course. They really can't help you with intolerances..and allergy testing won't show intolerances. Leaky gut is another thing a lot of Dr.s don't recognize or understand. You're on the right track with keeping a food log. I've found that I can't tolerate soy in any amount or form because of keeping...
  6. Oriental markets can be an inexpensive source for gluten-free flours. I looked them up online and it looks like they don't produce gluten flours at all? I would consider them safe and give them a try. Open Original Shared Link
  7. I go the week of April 30th. They want me to see a Neurologist too, but they couldn't get me an appointment for while I'm there. (same thing happened in FL) The soonest I can see a neuro is May 22. I hate having to make 2 trips. We've already been to the Florida Mayo and it cost quite a bit. We figured it would be best to see the Neoro there though, instead...
  8. You had a positive blood test..and a scope that showed some damage? I'd say go 100% gluten-free. Even if you're not feeling extreme reactions, there's still damage being done. It's cumulative as long as you ingest gluten. It will keep your immune system inflamed..and inflamation leads to more serious damage..posibly even another Auto-Immune disease....
  9. I feel so bad for you! If you're in so much physical pain you're more likely to be in the category of Celiacs with neuro symptoms? We react more strongly to trace gluten. I've read that it's best for us to omit the gluten-free versions of foods because they can have enough gluten to trigger symptoms. That 20ppm measure is more than we safely tolerate...
  10. Agreed! :D
  11. A double DQ2 means she got one DQ2 from each parent. That's all it takes to be genetically inclined to get Celiac.
  12. I hope you heal fast and feel better. Take it easy as you're healing. I had gallbladder pain and occasional nausea with it for about 2 years before being DXed with Celiac. My Dr. sent me for an ultrasound in May 2010. The results came back..no stones, but some sludge. After that when I complained about the pain I got scolded that "there was absolutely...
  13. I think what you're describing is pretty common? Have you made an appointment to get tested yet? It seems like you are reacting to gluten pretty strongly? Some Celiacs are overweight when diagnosed. Your body isn't absorbing vitamins, so your brain tells you it wants food...and you eat. Can you at least take a good multi-vitamin? I know you said...
  14. I was put on strong acid reducers years ago, without being tested for anything. I had GERD which I now know was from eating gluten. Before DX I kept complaining of stomack pain and nausea. The Dr. told me to eat Tums. That was reducing my acid even more! I stopped taking the acid reducer on my own when it was found I had a poorly functioning gallbladder...
  15. You can have constipation with celiac disease. Many of us have thyroid problems too, which can be a cause of constipation.
  16. If you test positive it's a good indication that you should be gluten-free? It would be good to have the scope now though, because it could show if there are other things going on? It also shows the state of your intestine right now. Sometimes they find ulcers, or other things that should be treated so that you truly get well on the gluten-free diet. ...
  17. Some of us have a hard time digesting the alternative flours too, at first. Are you taking a digestive enzyme with your meals? They may help as your digestive system is healing.
  18. I'd get the endoscope. Your blood test might be mildly positive, which might not keep you from consuming gluten? If you get the scope you can get a better picture of whether this is affecting your health? If you decide to not get the scope..will you go gluten-free..or wait until there's more damage and a higher test score(some Dr.s actually recommend...
  19. I had to really enlarge the pic a lot to get a good look and I think it's another ponytail? The hair is layered, so the sun is hitting it unevenly...or it's an alien?
  20. I found the article that said a Mother's blood sugar could affect the baby's brain especially interesting. I wouldn't have guessed that connection.
  21. I wondered if I could take "too much" probiotics, because I take two different ones? I asked the Pharmacist at the store and he said that the good bateria will fill a space if there is room for it, but if our bodies don't need it..it just passes through, without causing any harm. A food log would be a good idea. Without it, it's hard to work out if you...
  22. Unfortunately, it is normal for some people. Who knows how long he's had Celiac..or how much damage he has? He's probably suffering from malabsorption? Your Dad should be taking a B vitamin complex, a multi-vitamin, D, and fish oil. When our vitamins are depleted we don't feel like eating, and don't have the energy to cook much. A good probiotic and...
  23. Just a note if you look at the chart of vitamin deficiencies..when you see anorexia listed, that means a person doesn't want to eat..not the kind of anorexia where people starve themselves because they think they are fat.
